  • The half long forehand is a shot that, when properly executed, can be deadly. The problem is that many technical errors stand in the way of that with many people. You'll find the most common errors and keypoints in this video that will help you transform your half long forehand from a slow first ball to a true killer shot.

    Not my proudest intro...
    P.S.: When I talked about not going besides the table too much, I should've just said that. If the ball comes really in the middle of the table, you can take an extra step with your dominant foot as you play the shot. However, if the ball comes really in the corner and you step around, I suppose it's better to end more on the non-dominant foot (as long as you don't end up too much besides the table)!

      @@user-vc7zk9tv4d exactly. You do not need to move the racket much at all. Try to contact near the middle of your paddle, dont push forward too aggressive, dont try to add more underspin. try to take away the spin, kill the spin, and lift the ball lightly so it drops short and low over the net. It should be almost impossible for the opponent to attack, and will for a passive push recieve from them, which you should be able to continue the point from.

    Very useful.
    I've got a question about something else as well, that you might or might not answer in a future video.
    Do you have any tips for receiving well? More specifically that help with adapting to the length of the serve.
    I usually stand fairly close to the table while receiving so I'm able to push or flick the serve back easily. However, when the serve comes half long (on the longer side) or fully long I usually play the ball in the net or on the table with too little quality. Probably because I step back too late.
    Would you say the principle in this video of "always expect short first" applies to serves as well or is there a better alternative? Is there kind of an "ideal distance" to receive?

      A video about that topic is coming out quite soon 😊.
      It's important to have your racket high first, but it's also important not to step in too early. It's better to be neutral for as long as you can, so that you can receive properly on all possible serves.
      Maybe try to look for some tells in the opponent's serve. That takes a lot of the guesswork out of the receive and is very often noticeable (for example a different service swing on their long serve compared to their short serve).
      Also, one possible cause can be that you're standing too high. If you need to go down first to play topspin on a half long serve, that's a sign of standing too high.

    • @OlavKTTT
      @OlavKTTT  4 місяці тому

      He does, but not the in the same way as me. My technique (and the way the head of my racket is pointed downward) is because of my (bad) grip. Try to find a video of him and compare his racket position (relative to his hand) between the beginning and the end of the swing. You'll see that he accelerates with his wrist, because having your wrist relaxed is incredibly important when playing.
