@@DerekHuntArtistOur scientific glassblower in the Netherlands always score a glass tube before breaking. He always wetted his finger with some spit and applied this to the score/scratch. It was routine and I still wonder if it helped to bread the glass. In the case of glass artist like you cutting oil is often used, and also in that case I do not know if or why that helps. Seeing your careful tapping was really good and I will try that. Many thanks !!

@@carlbrenninkmeijer8925 very interesting. I saw a video yesterday which mentioned oil being used to assist the glass to break properly. I always thought the oil was just to lubricate the wheel, and didn’t serve any other purpose. Perhaps liquid applied to the score (either oil or spit) does help in some way I don’t completely understand 🤷

@@DerekHuntArtist Oil is hydrophobic and does not interact with glass at all. So a) it must be lubrication OR b) It "seals" the score/scratch somehowe. I try to work with little or no cutting oil because it may prevent the copperfoil from sticking to the edges. Tapping the glass and temperature gradients help for a crack to propagate along the score made with the cutter. I was just now thinking what happens when the freshly scored glass is immersed in an ultrasonic bath.. I will try that soon

@@carlbrenninkmeijer8925 what are you expecting to happen with the ultrasound bath? I imagine it might be useful to loosen dirt or debris from the glass surface, but are you hoping for more?

Where do you stand on those videos showing people cutting glass with scissors, under water?

Never tried it! Maybe I should experiment, would be cheaper than using a glass cutter hahaha!
