@LeoGuy N So watching porn simping sleeping with prostitutes posting nudes to get the attention of the opposite gender is fine but the expectation from your parents that their own chold will get married have their own family and kids who they can see when they get old themselves is disgusting. Is it so hard to believe a heterosexual woman could prefer independence? Because in your mind ALL straight women want to get married, even if they say they don't? That's like thinking all women you go on a date with want to have sex with you, even if some say no. Maybe they're not in the mood, maybe they're just not that into you yet, or maybe they never will be into you, but they actually do NOT want to. Can you accept that, and find someone who *does" want to, or would your manhood be somehow diminished by accepting that? Well, just like not ALL straight women want to have sex with you, not ALL straight women are comfortable with the idea of marriage, much less actually want to BE married. Your deducing by the OP's picture that she must be a lesbian, because she's older and comfortable with being single, is frankly a juvenile conclusion. Furthermore, your assumption that all actual lesbians deny that they're lesbians, might have some truth to it if we were living in the 1930's, but this is 2016, and the LBGT community is proud and loud, in case it's escaped your attention. If you deduced someone to be a lesbian and they actually _were_, they would loudly affirm their sexuality and let you know they were proud of it, too.
your right.the truth is its all about her money why its not going to happen.she is thinking about how much money she will have to give up if there is a divorce and she is in the wrong
i feel like she puts into words how i feel, also for me its the same as you the older i get the more comfortable i am being single and, not having had children, i guess as you get older you grow and in my case dont care much about other peoples opinions on how your life should be, where i live its mostly, married with two or three children,
In America: You are a biggest celebrity in this world. What is your next goal and what's your advice to young people to have a successful life. In India: Why you are not married?
And that's true. Getting married and having kids isn't for everybody. I have never been married and I don't have any kids. And I am very happy way. At least I'm woman enough to admit it! If Oprah's happy staying single, that's her choice. She will never be another divorce statistic, get involved in bitter child custody disputes, or raise her in a single-parent household!
Many women in today's world don't feel the need to get married. having a husband and children is not every woman's ultimate dream. fortunately we live in a world that is allowing us more and more to have different dreams, different goals. That is progress.
@@lisadiconti If marriage was ever happy ever after then I would have wanted it but in most cases that is not the real picture. Men are either cheating, there is either verbal, physical and mental abuse. If not for the alimony most of them would be divorced. There are very few good marriages and if someone finds it then one should do whatever it takes to stay in it. Marriage is important if you want to raise a kid in healthy environment. In most cases, people are divorcing because they found a more beautiful woman and if men are not doing it then there is a woman who is cheating on her spouse.

WOMEN ARE NOT HERE TO FULFILL SOCIETY'S ROLE OF A DEVOTED WIFE! Women are here to live their life according to how THEY want to live it. There is nothing wrong with marriage and there is nothing wrong with not wanting to conform to marriage!
+goodgreatlife You're a hysteric. He didn't say anything unreasonable - nothing against men. He stated that women should not feel obliged or fated to conform to a certain role. Why on earth would you criticise someone for saying that a woman should be allowed to exercise choice? You've got to stop screeching crass insults at anyone who makes a point which could be interpreted as vaguely pro-women. Stop immediately interpreting it as anti-men.
Alexander, THANK YOU. Some women are just not cut out to be wives and mothers, just like some men are not cut out to be husbands and fathers, and if they are forced to try to be something they're not, it will only make them resentful, which, like it or not, will come out in some form of abuse, either to themselves or to those they are *supposed* to love. If they *know* that as singles /childless singles they are better people - kinder, happier, content with life and supportive of loved ones - and if they know they could not fulfill that potential if they were married or had children, then it's not society's place to prevent them from being the best people they can be.

Jason Eric what makes you think that arrange marriage works for Indian women ? I have lived in India and there's a new dowry case ,murder and suicides by married women every single day . Most Indian women get forced into these marriages in a very young age and get treated as slaves throughout their lives until they kill themselves .
The way all societies were originally set up, women are defined by their looks and relationship status. Most will spend their entire lives focusing on, and trying to get validation for those two things, or else they lose. This is why you hear all those jokes about age, looks, and being single - only on women. *They conform, and often erase their individuality, because marriage is a necessity to them in most societies, never was for men* . But in modern societies, we're seeing generations of self-realized women for the 1st time in history. Not a dozen accomplished women, GENERATIONS. Marriage now is an option for us, no longer a necessity. I don't think marriage itself is the issue (the vow to commit for a lifetime, and build a family), but the world's idea of what a wife is toxic. *Very few couples have found the balance between some traditional elements that have their place, without taking them to extremes, and allowing each spouse to be themselves* . Throughout human history we've been going on extremes. Misogyny in traditional societies is one extreme, misandry now called "neo-feminism" is another. *We can romanticize the past or highly traditional countries all we want, healthy marriages were never the norm anywhere at any point in time in the history of mankind* . Divorce just wasn't as allowed as it is today. But our nature remained the same. We all know around us people who have been married 30+ years and are bitter and unhappy about it. A healthy marriage is a blessing, that very very very few people have the capacity to create, PERIOD. Including most of those who want it.
EXACTLY!! Whenever you see a wealthy woman, who doesn't want to get married, because other women know their own hypergamous nature, you will see that other women will agree as to why the wealthy woman should NOT get married; all the while knowing very well that women who marry wealthy men have an agenda to stay married until they decide to get divorced knowing that the american court system will give the woman half of a man's assets. So, the wealthy woman don't want that to happen to her when the script is flipped !!
it is very easy to just comment about someone else's life choice. if oprah had married and had kids she would not have been the successful person she is today. we only have one life and our time is limited we must strive to reach our own potential to reach our dream. if oprah's dream is to be who she is without someone else well at the end of the day that is what really matters.
Adriana Alcala Beyonce is married and have children, Kim Kardashian is also married and have children. Both of them are still famous and have successful careers. Oprah has a man in her life since many years, and this man contributed to her stability and success in a certain way.
Oprah feels uncomfortable, she really felt the cultural gap enormously. It seemed they were laughing at her. But she is such an adult and knew how to speak and focus on the respect for the foreign audience. That was a challenge!!
What is marriage though really but a formality? She may not be the 'marrying kind' but she's been with the same man since the 80s. There's a commitment there to one man and its been over 30 years! That's marriage in a way isn't it? Committing to somebody you love and being in it for the long haul.
Well, unless you are a Christian and believe these things this argument isn't valid. I'd much rather judge someone on what kind of person they ARE and how they treat others. Are they kind? Are they loving? Do they do good things in the world? I wouldn't judge someone based upon whether they were married or not. Its dangerous to be so judgemental.
I think being a good person is the MAIN (and if not) ONLY reason why you should be allowed into heaven (if heaven/hell is even real). I am a believer in God don't get me wrong but I think having a beautiful soul no matter what you believe in should grant you into heaven. Oprah gave over a million pounds to charity and she never boosts or even speaks about it. She is a teacher to others, a positive influence, a black woman from a modest background who has acquired a successful career in TV. I think Oprah is amazing and if there is a heaven then Oprah has her place reserved. She is a beautiful person and has touched people's lives in a positive way.
Marriage is about to care ,to take responsibility, to adjust and ofcourse gets back also ,it is equally give and take ,its not to become prisoner ,its a team work...and its a big pleasure, rest its one's choice to get married or not...
i agree with oprah, i think marriage is just a legal pain in the arse. never been married myself and my partner is happy with that. no kids either by choice! BE YOUR OWN WOMAN!
oh... my partner is coloured... lucky you that i feel the way i do then huh? AND are you only referring to white womens' primary objective to be mothers or all women? wait .. i don't even want to know any more about your beliefs, they are all yours, keep them.
good response tony. over here in new zeland we are feeding kids in schools now because they keep having them and can't afford them. more taxpayers money spent on the selfishness of these women.
Don't know who your comment is aimed at Steve W, but I don't have to convince myself or anyone else about my happiness. I know for a fact it is there. Sorry if yours isn't.
This completely makes perfect sense too me! When you choose to be with someone you have to almost sacrifice being your own individual to become something or bond to someone and be something you aren't. & I CANNOT DO THAT. I'm not bound to nobody. I like to be free. Not that being free means sleeping around with everybody but even if you do that is your free will choice. Everybody dreams of being with someone and live happily ever after and I completely am the opposite. I love myself and being alone. At the same time I wouldn't mind being with someone if we are on the same path and think alike and have the same goals in a sense. As well I would have to like that person on a friendship kind of level. Even then though, I would still have to have my "ME" time or else I get angry lmaooo.. Such a interesting video. Everybody is different.
Well, I am female, happily unmarried & child-free, pet-free, too. I'm a writer who has always been an introspective introvert! I find that most people, regardless of gender, tend to seek out distractions (from themselves) in whatever form they can find it. What probably annoys others most about ME is that I have a penchant for compelling people to confront themselves, especially their deepest fears. : )

Lucyq it is the dollah baby. If they marry and divorce comes up, she loses half her sht. Everyone knows women love money more than nything. Love is something alien to wimminz.
Thank you Oprah for giving me this unequivocal answer when I’m asked this all too consuming question. The strength in her voice to the question was unapologetic and so strong and so for real.
women who make over 100,000--only 30 percent of them are married. men who make over 100,000-70 percent of them are married. richer a woman is, the less likely she will ever marrry
Sadly this a byproduct of women's lib--the more successful a woman is, the less likely she will ever marry. They get too busy for dating. They have money, so they have no place in their lives for a man. Success has its price.
+Michael Smith I disagree with you. I think that a lot of women get married because they are trying to cling onto a guy to share wealth with. A woman who is well off by herself has the choice to not have to deal with a guy if she doesn't want to Also, a woman with money has the money to take care of herself into old age. I don't think that it's a "byproduct" of anything. In fact, what does marriage really mean? You could be "married" to someone and they could be fucking tons of people on the side and be distanced from you. What is marriage, a piece of paper? A piece of information on a computer? Entitlement to someone's health benefits?
Michael Smith Success delays marriage on both men and women, and they both age out of the market. Only difference is you get sugar daddies, but never sugar moms, that's all there is to ti!
I never had girlfriend or married..when love found me I never had the nerve to ask..And the feeling was so great, I figured it was not gonna get any better than that!!
Most people that prefer not to be married do so mainly, because they do not want to be accountable to someone other that themselves. I believe in marriage and look at it differently. I chose to be married not to be accountable, but to have a helpmate and be a helpmate, and have children.
Oh yes it totally is . Its very very much common .. most of the marriages in india are in fact arranged . but dont worry ... it works for most of them . My parents had one too :-)
I am sorry that I am differing with you. Arranged marriages in fact don't work for many. Whether it is an arranged or a love marriage, most of the marriages become disastrous and the couples is those marriages lead miserable lives together just for the sake of the society or their children. Of course there are a lucky few couples that end up in happy marriages but they are rare (according to me).

@Bruce Wayne The way modern middle class Indians do it, where it's more like 'parentally approved speed dating' and the bride / groom both have a veto, makes perfect sense to me. I wouldn't do it - but it seems like a valid way to find someone for life.
Actually, she owned the interviewer with her candid answer and the fact that she pointed out that women in India are often FORCED to marry and seen as worthless if they are unmarried.
She rose above and beat the odds she chose to respect herself gaining notoriety, and wealth. She didn't stumble by wayside and crumble a force to be reckoned with .
There’s no other woman I admire the most as compared to Oprah. Everything about her authenticity, living the truest highest, truest expression of herself gives me life. I’ve found myself in this space many times agonizing over the idea of yet to be wedded only because I think, by societal standards I feel pressure to be. Over time this idea has deluded me and gradually faded away. As I entered my early thirties, I find myself just fine with being where I’m at. Fine with everything because I had to be honest with myself by askin ‘is it really the marriage I desire or life of stability?’
😂😂 you read my mind! the past two relationships I have been in, have be short & horrible.. i think I’m similar to Oprah in the sense that I can’t conform.. I’m way too independent and like doing my own thing plus I have a son that I do things for all the time, no need to add to the list.. I’m knackered & will only be with someone who will fully understand me & be willingly take care of me for a change!
I agree. With all the stats and divorces and married friends who pretend to be happy but they’re not. And from my own personal experience marriage is not for everyone 👍
There are many pros and cons to being married, just as there are pros and cons to being single. Marriage does not necessarily mean you “give up yourself” as Oprah put it. There are many successful marriages where each person keeps their individuality. And yes, a big no to arranged marriages.
Only in India, and certain other developing and under-developed countries, we have this social pressure of getting married. I mean what one does in their life, is their choice, who is anyone else to even comment on it. Unless someone is doing something illegal, I don't think anybody has the right to even comment on anything. But we have all the time in the world to comment about everything and judge everyone. That's why we are third world because we love wasting our time doing unproductive discussion and gossiping about friends and neighbours.
i get what she is saying, i got married when i was 22 & stayed married for 7 yrs. i have been a few long term relationships & i had so many issues, i always felt like i had to be with someone, i was searching for someone to love me & make me happy. now at 40 i realized that i am a complete person & i have to find happiness within myself, so i no longer have that need. when i was in relationships i was never happy, because i am a person with strong opinions & i don't like being told what to do or having to compromise about things that i want to or don't want to do. i was unhappy because i wasn't being myself
One thing I have in common with Oprah is that I've not been married either. I think she felt put on the spot by the question and hadn't really thought about how to easily answer a question like that. Some people here on the comments page are quite cruel and rude though I can see how some are questioning her sincerity due to her not so smooth response (unlike on her shows)

jollysincere It's not anybody's business what she is, gay straight or Bi. Folks need to tend to their own bedrooms. If she is and wants to come out, she will. It does not add or take away from the gay community and none of my gay friends care. Marriage is not the only thing in life there are so many things in life... We should achieve our goals nd make our dreams successful if we married means we can't achieve our dreams thats it... Marriage means problems
No doubt it is, for many people. But not everyone is cut out for married life, and for those who aren't, I daresay being single, yet having good relationships/friendships is just as great a blessing.
Because she is intelligent and can earn by herself. Why will she destroy her life for a man. Marriage is a patriarchal concept and I am not going to get married either. There is something in me that has started hating marriages. Why women are expected to leave family while men can stay. Her family don't matter. Wow. I am not getting into this.
It's all about choices... I admire her for following her heart and not getting married and at the same time securing a great future for herself. She can afford not to settle down with a guy and be her own woman... There are two paths either be independent, take care of yourself, earn much, adopt kids, be rich so that no one can point fingers at you Or get married, make adjustments, compromise, raise kids together with the husband, get care and security from husband... Both type of lifestyles are wonderful... It depends what you choose.... Good Luck..
Ive been married for 26 yrs. Marriage is you really work hard with Love, Respect and Trust. Husband love your wife as Christ loves the church. Wife submit to your husband. Submit is not that easy but thank God that I married someone love the Lord, love me and love my sons. Now both working, handsome and love to travel, talented in Music, They know how to work. Not perfect but I can say I'm bless. Speaking music my sons have a you tube channel type passionfruit minimum bear. God bless you.
You go Oprah ! Tell her like it is. Some cultures are so old fashioned and think you have to be married to be happy. Arranged marriages are barbaric and demeaning in my view.
Marraige doesn't have to apply to everybody, same setup is not applicable for all... Your individuality, your views and many more factors matter. It should certainly be a choice a not a forceful decision.
Priya T it's not about who asked her this question...even Oprah sometimes ask such weird questions to her guests in her show....the point is how smartly you handle such questions...and she replied to it like a queen!!That's appreciable
If women don't want to be married it means that they are strong, independent and love themselves and their life. The more dependent and dumb a woman is the more likely she'll want to tie the knot.
That's the reason I'm a single man that doesn't wanna marry. I love my strength, independence, and love myself and my life. I refuse to follow the pattern of the dumb men.
You go Frank! At least your honest! If more people like you and me decide that getting married and having isn't for us, the divorce rate in this country would come down and the child abuse problem would be solved right there.
*FOR THOSE OF YOU* who keep telling me *PRENUP*...With a prenup, there is a Minimal Pay out. *NO WOMAN* is going to pay a man for the dissolution of a marriage/relationship. Why do you think so many successful women rarely get married? Because women will do ANYTHING to never have to pay a man.
Exactly why I never got married, I inherited over 3 million dollars in coins and precious medals. My father always had me run his apartment complexes so I got used to hearing and dealing with woman lies and the lower classes tricks. I never had any kids but you know what its better than giving up half of everything you ever made and have because you couldn't make it work. Im 32 years old and I have seen so much. I have seen men actually go crazy because of this, its sad. If a woman does it she is a strong woman. If a guy like me does im just a flat out dick that does not know reality because I was given everything, When I do have a physical relationship some times I lie about my name, its the safest sex.
While I agree that children are blessings, it seems rather narrow-minded to me, to say that no person is blessed, who has not had a child. I am blessed with ten nieces and nephews, and that's quite enough blessing for me.
I have been married for 24 years and my husband has always allowed me to be fully me. I have never had to cease manifesting the fullness of my purpose because I'm a wife. If anything, he believed in me long before I believed in myself. He has always fanned the flames of my dreams. I feel a but confused that she and others have such a limited definition of marriage, especially in this dispensation. I'm not sure why there is an assumption that you can't find a man who loves you and allows you to be your own woman. Some may say it's rare, but it's definitely possible.
Da'dra Greathouse the problem in your answer is “ your husband allows “ . Why do you or any woman need a man’s permission to do something in the first place? Men have self-proclaimed authority over women, and some women never wonder why it has to be that way. No human should have authority over another especially gender based. It’s about equality
I agree!! Also, there was a time in this country and world where women had to get married if they wanted a roof over their heads. Women in this country have evolved. We are educated, able to think for ourselves, and I love the fact that we got a choice. However, if you want to be a God pleaser and you are living with a man and doing things married people do, then marrying is the right thing to do.
What the hell are you talking about women had to get married if they wanted a roof over their head....what? This feminists bs have gone to far man hating ungrateful as women.
🔴 *Some people are born to be a faithful spouse and wonderful family leader☝🏾And others are born to be a single star, self-controlled, and shining their light for the whole world* 🙏🏾🙂 I prefer the latter, but it can be really hard to deal with feelings of loneliness, or you need a companion. In this day of age, you have to be really strong in faith and connected with Gd to be able to LOVE UNIVERSALLY.
This video perfectly shows how good(terrible) a woman's intuition is when dealing with marriage. Oprah is obviously terrified of marriage(divorce) and i don't blame her because of the U.S. legal system, which has no business in marriage. If u want a good marriage, pick a good man to be ur husband and for ur own sake TAKE YOUR TIME, DON'T RUSH INTO IT.

Many women in today's world don't feel the need to get married. having a husband and children is not every woman's ultimate dream. fortunately we live in a world that is allowing us more and more to have different dreams, different goals. That is progress.
I think some people aren't suited for marriage. Sort of like we're not all suited for certain careers.

No it's exactly what she says, she's her own woman. Look what she's done with her life. Marriage, the way it's set up, isn't for everybody.
it depends on who she chooses
Jason Eric what makes you think that arrange marriage works for Indian women ? I have lived in India and there's a new dowry case ,murder and suicides by married women every single day . Most Indian women get forced into these marriages in a very young age and get treated as slaves throughout their lives until they kill themselves .
Well, who's going to get her pregnant?
Not even childrens.
Including most of those who want it.

it is very easy to just comment about someone else's life choice. if oprah had married and had kids she would not have been the successful person she is today. we only have one life and our time is limited we must strive to reach our own potential to reach our dream. if oprah's dream is to be who she is without someone else well at the end of the day that is what really matters.
Adriana Alcala Beyonce is married and have children, Kim Kardashian is also married and have children. Both of them are still famous and have successful careers. Oprah has a man in her life since many years, and this man contributed to her stability and success in a certain way.
So true. Even as girlfriends we can fall into that trap. But at least we are not married! Married women tell me not to get married all the time.

What is marriage though really but a formality? She may not be the 'marrying kind' but she's been with the same man since the 80s. There's a commitment there to one man and its been over 30 years! That's marriage in a way isn't it? Committing to somebody you love and being in it for the long haul.
Expectations change when you get married on both ends. Your choices become for the marriage and not for yourself.

Such a interesting video. women who make over 100,000--only 30 percent of them are married.
men who make over 100,000-70 percent of them are married.
richer a woman is, the less likely she will ever marrry
+Michael Smith Very interesting statistic :)
What's to disagree with? Women find success often delays their marriage. They age out of the market. Read Lori Gottlieb's book
MARRY Him
Michael Smith Success delays marriage on both men and women, and they both age out of the market.
Good for you but everyone don't want that.

It doesn’t mean that they are happy in arranged marriages. It would be terrible to marry someone you don’t know or even like. How sad 😢

Marriage and children is a choice.

Who? What is his name?
Marriage is not the only thing in life there are so many things in life... We should achieve our goals nd make our dreams successful if we married means we can't achieve our dreams thats it... Marriage means problems
Of course they'd ask that kind of question in India. So typical. And good answer Oprah!
I love being married. Marriage is a blessing !!!
No doubt it is, for many people. But not everyone is cut out for married life, and for those who aren't, I daresay being single, yet having good relationships/friendships is just as great a blessing.
hope it lasts....FOREVER???
She was supportive of choice
It is important to address cultural difference, while approaching a sensitive issue such as marriage.
Shi kaha apne
I love the wisdom from Oprah “I love being my own woman “! I have great respect for her, so honest and loving.
She just said the truth without breaking any man heart not women that get married and still cheat.
I was there watching her live! She was mesmerizing!
Oprah is an inspiration i really miss catching bits of her show before my mom went to work
Somebody need to ask Stedman the same question
Right on Oprah, not everyone had to get married. I don't intend on getting married or even getting into relationships as I am asexual
Good Luck..
Too many bad things happen within a marriage so no way I'll deal with that.
Leave it to Indians to ask such a question to such an accomplished woman
Priya T it's not about who asked her this question...even Oprah sometimes ask such weird questions to her guests in her show....the point is how smartly you handle such questions...and she replied to it like a queen!!That's appreciable
This is cool. I never saw this interview. I love the topic that they discussed.
Oops. I meant having kids. Sorry about that.
No. It means they are unwanted and ugly and lonely and they know that. No matter what you, I do not believe you.
I agree 100 percent i dont do well with other ideas and what kind of person i should be
I'm my own person👍🏾💖😄
Flexibility and vulnerability in your heart, mind and spirit takes a toll that some people will not pay, or cannot pay.

No woman, (or man) is blessed, who has not a child. That is the purpose!
"Be fruitful, and multiply." "Extend your life"
While I agree that children are blessings, it seems rather narrow-minded to me, to say that no person is blessed, who has not had a child. I am blessed with ten nieces and nephews, and that's quite enough blessing for me.
THAT VOICE AND LAUGH of theeeE interviewer ON THE STAGE. Ahhh what a singular double whammy 💃👍🎭
IT'S A MAN'S WORLD, BUT NOT IN MY HOUSE !!!
🔴 *Some people are born to be a faithful spouse and wonderful family leader☝🏾And others are born to be a single star, self-controlled, and shining their light for the whole world* 🙏🏾🙂
I prefer the latter, but it can be really hard to deal with feelings of loneliness, or you need a companion.
MARRIAGE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. JUST GET IT!
