- Just for clarification: this trailer is completely fanmade and not necessarily representative of Synapse's restoration quality. I just worked with the transfers that were available at the time.
Synapse's Blu-Ray Release:

Cool trailer, and thanks for creating it! But, the images/clips used do not represent what our transfer actually looks like. A different transfer was evidently used that does not reflect the imagery from our restoration.
Hi DonaldMay Jr.,
did you have part in this new 4k transfer? I watched it in the cinema last year here in Denmark - it looked awesome. Were can I find a trailer that represents the transfer well (if there is any)?
Kenneth Lorentzen in short, what you saw and liked was a terrible mistake and you're probably a terrible person for liking it so he won't give you any trailer or details. Insert rolleyes
Of course if one really wanted to experience the original look and feel of the film, it would be restored and projected in 35mm
Donald May, Jr. Can you please tell me where i can purchase this restored 4k version of this movie? My sis and i LOVE this film and i want my bf to see it too.
look for the synapse films version whom he is co-owner of. amazon.com has it.
*Director Dario Argento's original idea was that the ballet school would accommodate young girls not older than 12. However, the studio and producer Salvatore Argento (his father) denied his request because a film this violent involving children would almost certainly be banned. Dario raised the age limit of the girls to 20 but didn't rewrite the script, hence the naiveté of the characters and the occasionally childlike dialogue. He also put all the doorknobs at about the same height as the actress' heads, so they would have to raise their arms in order to open the doors, just like children.*
Very cool!
Thank you!
NateM Always asked myself why Argento did not rewrite the dialoges. Seems a little bit lazy for perfeconist like him
Ben R - I agree 100%
Ben R - I met Dario in IIRC 1987 and even then, he was not very fluent in English. He could just about get by. So I don't find it surprising that he wasn't very focused upon the English dialog of his earlier movies.
"uncut"
Immediately shows someone getting cut.
Yea that's the joke
Dishonest marketing
The 1970s was definitely the best decade for the horror genre, so many great classic films such as Suspiria, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, The Exorcist, Carrie, etc. came out that decade!
Any horror fan simply MUST see at least one film by Dario Argento. SUSPIRIA happens to be my favorite but it isn't the only one that is a classic in the genre.
samsquanch1996 don' forget Dario Argento's "deep red" ;)
I think you forgot Jaws
And 1973's The Wicker Man!
You forgot alien
Visual masterpiece. Art house style movie. The narrative and dialogues were intended for children but due to obvious legal issues the age of the cast had to be increased but the script wasn't changed.
You can see that unfortunately
This is not just one of the greatest horror films from the 1970's - it's simply just one of the best horror films ever made. I grew up with this and other horror classics from the era that I used to watch at home over and over again. The lighting, the colors, the imagery, the music, the set pieces - all of it so superb that storytelling logic plays second fiddle. A Masterpiece ranking with the Top Genre Works of Romero, Craven, Hooper, Cronenberg, and Carpenter. They simply don't make them like they used to! "WITCHES!"
@itchydiscoman many amazing and iconic horror films dont get good reviews when they first come out, but end up becoming timeless classics. Think of The Shining, or Hereditary
@Jeffrey DeCristofaro Suspiria made me a horror fan from an early age. I have this film to thank for the horror reviewer I am today. It's kinda like a Wicca Alice in Wonderland with Suzie being Alice of course
@itchydiscoman why don't you like the shinning?
I honestly don't think this movie was that good imo, but the color were nice , and some scenes were cool
The Exorcist 🤡🤡
This is just the best edited trailer I’ve ever seen in my life.
i literally thought this was an original trailer i’m amazed
One of the creepiest movies ever made, and that Goblins soundtrack is mesmerizing. Definitely a classic horror movie!
One of the worst movie that ever made. Seriously this is so shity, sorry
@@IHateYTIdentifiers The script, dialogues, acting were all so bad. I do not get the praise and its cult status. I liked set design, cinematography and soundtrack were lit though. The movie has dated terribly though ...
MASTERPIECE
The music, the colours and imaginery is beyond anything i have seen, just amazing
Yep! Goblin was a great band. Wonder what they're up to these days? Time for ME to Google this one - this time! 🧐😆
I just realized that the star of this film, Jessica Harper, was in so many other film classics too, like "Phantom of the Paradise." I think she was underrated.
Definitely underrated, but those in the industry appreciate her, Steven Spielberg cast her in Minority Report.
This film was hypnotic, disturbing, seductive and hard to look away all at once. Plus Jessica Harper was the best part about the film.
There's no comparison to the original film. From the horror, the music, the characters, the gore, the shock value. This film is one in a lifetime. A creative masterpiece.
The work done on this restoration is truly admirable.
This is the best fan made trailer my eyes ever witnessed
Back when horror movies didn’t all have a grayish filter and zero color to them.
The same little boy (Albert) at 0:54 played by Jacopo Mariani, also starred previously in Profondo Rosso AKA Deep Red (1975) Carlo as a young child. You remember him in that infamous scene where he picks up the Butcher Knife with his father's blood on it.
"Suspiria"(1977) is a supernatural horror movie masterpiece, and one of the 20 best horror movies of all time!
Jessica Harper is so beautiful and stunning to look at. Her wide eyes and innocent look is one of the things that makes watching the movie worthwhile.
I expected for her to have a more extensive filmography but surprisingly she doesn’t. I thought she would’ve been in many movies and Oscar nominated but sadly that’s not the case. She just seemed like the perfect “it” girl for that time- beauty, talent and interesting look/appeal. Either way she’s great in this and still looks great! Excited to see her in the remake of the movie too!
Well, she married an independent producer and she turned him into THE chairman of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group who also happens to be former chairman and chief executive officer of Fox Filmed Entertainment aaaaand the founder and President of Fox Searchlight Pictures, so it would not make sense to work for an industry you pretty much own, she plays a part in the Suspiria remake tho, I wonder how they managed to even get in touch with such an elusive lady.
If you've never seen Inserts watch it. She's astounding in it.
I think Jessica Harper was born at the wrong time. Had she been born at the beginning of the 20th century, she would have been the queen of silent films. Although in this movie she takes care of herself, her face just seems to epitomize the damsel in distress.
Yeah. Argento chose her because she looked like a child, manga character with big eyes.
lmao Oscar-nominated actors aren't in Argento movies
I am so proud of myself for watching this movie. What a masterpiece.
I love this film for many reasons! One of my favourites just for the amazing use of gel lighting alone!
I love how at the end of the trailer Sara and Olga are all like *hisssssss* and *unnnnn* and Suzy's just between the both of them like *lol okay*
The characters in the movie are supposed to be girls around 8 to 10 years old but was denied. So Dario aged up his characters but kept the dialogue.
Everything, absolutely everything is beautiful about this movie.
That soundtrack man.. i saw the movie last week but it was nostalgic even then. Loved the movie.
The decor, the decor of that place is just magical
still looking for a horror movie with colors like this
Try The Neon Demon, a clear homage to this film.
try Inferno, from the same director
coldwar1977 Thanks!
theres a movie called "Mandy" coming out soon. check that out
@@diosmo Neon Demon was boring visual porn
Yes, me and my friends voted 2-1 to see this at the theatre back in the day. The other vote went to another film called Star Wars. Half-way through the film the projectionist put the next reel in backwards/upside-down so the scene with the springs was even more weird.
This movie is easily one of my favorites of all time!
Sure, you're damn right. Like 'The night of the living dead', 'The exorcist', 'The full circle', 'Zombie', Bram Stoker's Dracula' and 'Dark water'.
My favourite film of Dario Argento Is Profondo rosso !!!!!
So fortunate that I got to see a screening of this with Claudio Simonetti's Goblin playing live underneath. Got to hug Claudio after. That guy is a master!
The restoration looks great, and this trailer is edited well!
0:00 - 0:33 1st gear,
0:33 - 1:48 Second gear, and
1:48 - Third gear.
Great trailer of the most beautiful, most amazing nightmare ever made.
I need to get my hands on this bluray, I was lucky enough to catch this in theaters last year and it looked amazing on the big screen. I have synapse’s Tenebre & that looks beyond fantastic. I can only imagine how this beaut looks on bluray.
Absolutely great trailer. Brilliant work!
Did they know for certain that Helena Marcos was a witch in the movie? She may have been upset by overpriced tea or shoes with too short laces.
Suzy, do you know anything about...witches?
This trailer is amazing! Great job!
For me “Profondo Rosso” is his best movie Just remembering the mirror scene give me a goosebumps
This film was incredible. One of my absolute favs
First time I watched this film at art school. Our teacher told us how great was this film. Music, colours, atmosphere.
every scene in this film is a work of art
Piece of trivia, Jessica Harper missed out on a part in Woody Allen’s “Annie Hall” because she was still filming this film. She did get to work with Woody though, in “Stardust Memories”.
THAT WAS BRILLIANT!!!
omg this is an amazing fanmade trailer
One of the greatest horror films I've ever seen. I would put this in my top 3 easily. I tried to watch the remake but it doesn't hold a candle to the original. The music and the colorful visuals really make this film stand out. Plus, the murder sequences, in particular the first, in my opinion, is still one of the most shocking images from the world of horror .
Agree totally
The remake is a completely different animal but an utterly brilliant film in its own right that does some truly unique things with editing.
It's not Agento's Suspiria, but it's still brilliant.
Really? I found this film to be below average.
What's ur top 3 consists of
the remake isnt similar at all and is good on its own
SAW THIS FILM WHEN I WAS WAY TO YOUNG AND LOVED IT! STILL DO.
A great film, one of the best horror movie i ever see.
This looks so fantastic
You should watch it, original 1977 film..
Finally saw this. As a kid who grew up in the 80s and 90s of gore horror, this movie is something else. It really stands out on its own.
Nice work !
Well done trailer, as i just watched this movie so its fresh in my mind and that trailer showed every important/ visually stunning part.
I'm so stoked to see this with live musical accompaniment by GOBLIN this december
70s horror doesn’t get talked about enough. It’s a shame.
Undoubtedly one of the greatest horror films of all time.
Grazie Maestro ❤️🎥🇮🇹
Not just my favourite horror movie. But one of my favourite movies ever. Visually sublime. Curious about the remake.
I've always thought this movie looks best on my old vhs copy. it slightly abstracts and flattens the shapes and colors in a really interesting and pleasing way
the bluray transfer of this is incredible...it was a long time coming.....i waited over a DECADE for this to finally be released in the USA...up to then i had to settle for the British release
I saw suspiria for the first time a decade ago, and still... the way Sarah says "it's so absurd so fantastic" still gets me to this day, uneasy feelings, I don't feel safe 👁️🚦
Italian Euro-horror is a specific genre of horror film that raised gore to high art.
Every scene has high artistic design and especially the death scenes. They are particularly stylized for maximum shock value and scenic effect
They are beautiful, even. For those who can take it.
Never gets old.
This movies is a masterpiece, dario is a genuis
masterpiece 🎥
the colors in here ...so amazing. gosh i want to see this movie. so. BAD! i really don’t want to buy the dvd but i guess i have to, to fill my need of great horror movies.
Ava Deutsch_ i suggest you do. Its worth it!
Its on youtube for free shh
You can get it on Blu ray with Amazon for £7.92 That's a second hand copy.
Sauce?! Please!?
John Galt ha!
I only discovered Suspiria during the 80s when working in the Middle East. A colleague mentioned the movie and I later purchased it on DVD. To say it was, and still is, for me the greatest horror movie of all time is an understatement. A classic piece of awesome torment and barbarism that will keep you pinned to your armchair or wherever you've planked your ass. Just when you think it couldn't get more horrific . . . then it does!!😡👿😡!!
As cores do filme são absolutamente lindas, hipnotizam, a história te prende do começo ao fim ❤ obra de arte
I bought it on Amazon on Blu Ray can't wait to see it.
OMG Seeing Goblin perform this Live tonight in Seattle. SO STOKED
The cinematography in this movie was amazing
So excited about the new movie remake
Wonder if the shape of the shadow at 0:05 was purposed or not because it truly resembles a witch.
You have a good eye.
A good catch but alas it shows later its the Gargoyles on the side of the building but you are half right they have a witch like appearance
This looks scary as hell. And that background music... Chilling!
It's like looking through a painting!

I love that black and white wallpaper.
A real horror masterpiece ! (talking about original version of this film - 1977)
this Transfor looks amazing
a classic!!
This was made in the _1970's??_ You could have lied to me and told me this was a recent film! The restoration looks INCREDIBLE!! 😳
Phantasmorgasm.
Love horror films with colors and music like this !
Know any other good ones
Still the best 4k disc release ever IMO.
I love it!
Mee too !!!! Dario Argento Is my favourite director !!!!!!!!!
my favorite movie !!!
watch the 2018 one if you are more into serious acting jobs, dialogue and plot. but watch this one if you wanna watch a movie with some of the best visual camerawork i’ve ever seen in a movie. it’s just gorgeous.
I love this film for two reasons. First, the amazing cinematography and use of color, and second, because I have a thing for Jessica Harper. As far as the plot, I would have to rate this movie as mediocre. I'm not sure if I want to see the remake. You say that the acting, dialogue, and plot are better, but without the amazing color and cinematography, is it worth it? I guess Jessica Harper has a small role in the remake, but that's not enough. Do you recommend watching the remake?
Unadin I never said the remake had bad cinematography, in fact it has quite stunning sequences and a very unique color palette to it. And yes, the acting... is much MUCH better as well as the dialogue and story. Mainly because the originals script and story was written for children but they couldn’t use it because it was too dark for a children cast then I guess. So it was awkward using older people deliver such weird lines. The remake has great dialogue, Tilda FUCKING Swinton, and a sexy Dakotah Johnson who actually nails her role. So yes, I recommend it. The climax is a little corny but somewhat bonkers and out there enough to warrant a pass from me, the rest of the movie is great.
One of the best classical horror movies
Awesome movie
i love miguel bose rockstar...the colors.music atmosfera is amazing
love Jessica Harper.
Excellent movie
Love the music
Perfecto!!!
The use of color in SUSPIRIA (1977) is apparently an influence from horror master Mario Bava. The tones and moods created by Bava and Ubaldo Terzano for BLOOD and BLACK LACE (1964) can be seen here visually and would later be used In Brian De Palma’s CARRIE (1976) with cinematography by Mario Tosi and the uncredited Isidore Mankofsky. The use of music in these films an important factor in creating the atmosphere these brilliant filmmakers wanted to project on the big screen. The composers Carlo Rustichelli, Pino Donaggio, and Goblin making their best contributions to the genre.
