- In this video, I REPLACED BOTH COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSORS on my 2004 B6 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro 6 Speed Manual! It was a pretty simple replacement and is definitely doable at home! This video could possibly be used as a GUIDE/DIY/HOW TO/TUTORIAL to help you REPLACE BOTH COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSORS on a 2002-2005 Audi B6 A4 with the 1.8T engine! Thanks @fcpeuro for the parts!

You got a sub just for that sensor switch 😂
Haha thanks man and I'm glad my videos could be of some sort of help to others out there 👍
Love these videos, so helpful being a b6 owner myself. Subbed bro 💪🏻👌🏻
Thanks for the support! I'm glad my videos could possibly help others out there 👍
Love that beautiful rs4 you’ve got too bro, I’m looking forward to future content, thanks for uploading 👍🏻
@@Brad8261 thanks!

Would I need to change both the sensors, though? My gauge seems to work fine, ran a scan, and the it's reading 45° even though the engine is hot. Fan doesn't come on.
Hmmmm, that's weird. So when your car is up to operating temp, the temp gauge is correct, but when you scan the car it shows it's 45° and not up to operating temp? What is the main issue you're having?
@cjscarcollection18 hi, and thanks for your reply. the car does overheat because the fan doesn't kick in. So if I leave it idling long enough, the temp gauge starts going up really fast to high temp. The idle is also above 1000rpm most of the time. There's also a miss fire between 800rpm and 1000rpm. What I had to do was switch my aircon on so that the fan spins and cools the radiator.
@Bradley Chetty ahhh ok so you have an overheating issue. I would start with the green 4 pin coolant switch and see if that helps. But since both sensors aren't that expensive anyways it'll be good to do both if those haven't been touch for a long time. The overheating issue could also be caused by other things.
@cjscarcollection18 thanks bro I'll do that and check what happens
@Bradley Chetty no probs, let me know happens 👍
It could also be the thermostat. mine did the same
Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. It is currently running ok at this time so still monitoring it 👍
I have a 3.0 and the same thing is going on with mine. My question is did the fluctuating temp on the dash prevent the fans from kicking on?
Mine actually did not. I believe each function (fluctuating temp gauage & fan activation) are each triggered by the separate sensors. One sensor will trigger the fans and the other sensor will operate the temp gauge.
Can this stop the car from starting? As i have a code for collant temp sensor and it will start intermittently normally when cold
@@omarshah9585 I believe it could as there were others who also had starting issues when cold.
I'm not having that issue I'm having the issue where the fans kick on right when I start the car and its cold as fuck they shut off after a short time and work as normal. Could be this or my rad fan switch or relay
Hmmmm sounds more like the fan switch/control module. You should scan your car and see if you get any codes relative to the fan switch/control module
Hi. My Audi reaches 90 very slowly. Once it reaches 90 it starts to drop to 70 then slowly increases to 90. What is the cause? Regards
Sounds like the coolant temp sensors. I would replace both and go from there since they are fairly cheap 👍
@@cjscarcollection18 thank you
do you have the amb head?
Yes, stock AMB engine.
Mine is always at the H. It drops when I turn of the car, but once I turn it on it goes straight to the Hot
Yes that's odd. Did you ever replaced the sensors?
@@cjscarcollection18 Not yet, I saw how easy they were to install so I'm going to order some to replace the old.
@@korbenwillis590 nice, goodluck and don't hesitate to reach out if any 👍
@@cjscarcollection18 Alrighty, Thanks 🚗
I have error P0116 - engine coolant temperature sensor G62. My fan turns on even when the car is cold. When the car heats up to 90 degrees, car has less power. Temperature coolant on VAGCOM in normal. Which sensor should I try to replace, 2 or 4 pin?
I see. Honestly, I would replace both as they both are fairly cheap and depending on how many miles and old those are. But I believe the G62 should be the green 4 pin sensor.
It works! I only replaced the 4pin sensor. The car has full power again. The fan does not turn on when the engine is cold. 😊
@@motorist46 nice! I'm glad it fixed your issue 👍
Hey, i have a fault code P0116, changed the green 4-pin sensor, deleted the fault code.
The gauge seemed to go normally, after a 10 min drive its at 90`Celcius and stays there for a medium long drive.
Should i try to replace the second one aswell ? Couldn`t possibly be the Thermostat could it?
Really helpful video though, thanks alot for the content. 😁
Hmmmmm no more fault code after the sensor replacement? 90°C seems normal to me. Thanks for the support and watching my videos.
@@cjscarcollection18 The fault code, came back weirdly enough🤔
@Benjamin Korgerud Mellesdal I see. I'd give the second coolant temp sensor a try since it's not that expensive. Thermostat usually have a different code
@@cjscarcollection18 Thank you so much! Appreciate the help.
@@erpexia1998 anytime 👍
Where did you get the green one
Got them both from FCPEuro 👍
Hi, thanks for your video. Which one is the coolant sensor 1? The obd2 fault finder tells me that my Audi 2001’s coolant sensor 1 is faulty. Please let me know. Thanks
Is your car exhibiting any issues other then the check engine light?
@@cjscarcollection18 the car’s fan starts at a high speed when I start it and then during drive, the temperature needle falls suddenly. Sometimes, the car starts on the third or fourth try.
نفس المشكلة كانت عندي و الحل هو تغيير الحساس الأخضر الموجود في المحرك كما في فيديو@@naseerahmed1799
@@espada40 can you please say it in English? I can’t read Arabic!
@@naseerahmed1799 had the same problem, you have to change the green sensor as you saw in the video
mine doing the same thing lol a4 b6 1.8t.... same car color too by chance u would have the color code for that dark blue paint
??
Oh nice, hopefully swapping these out fixed the issue.
Yea the color code was LZ5J
Hey there yall, what if my temp gauge is fine yet im getting a p0118 high input. Do i still replace both or jst the green sensor 1 .
I honestly would replace both if they have not been replaced for a while since they are fairly cheap and if you have higher mileage. But I would start with the green temp sensor.
Ok. Doing both for the sake of high miles .👍
@@oloveorlando6939 cool, let me know if it fixes the issue 👍
@@cjscarcollection18 sure will do. Where you get your part btw. I jst ordered both of em on amazon due to my fan keeps turning on right wen i start car.. Talk about fuel mileage now a days 🤯
@Olove Orlando yea I get it haha. I got the sensors from FCP Euro 👍
what is a code (name) of the first sensor- the small one in the front ?
Both are coolant temp sensors. It's just the matter of either a 2 or 4 pin one. 👍
Ciao sono italiano ho visto il tuo video ho la stessa macchina 1.8 turbo
Temperatura costante a 90 solo quando accelero a fondo oa asu strada sale fino a 130 quando rallento torna a 90 gradi
Quindi? Sai darmi.una risposta grazie
Please rispondi??
Hi, not quite sure what you are asking but I'll try my best to answer. It seems like it could be a few things.
What I would do is do a good coolant flush to make sure nothing in the coolant passage ways is clogged up. I would also change out the thermostat as that could be the cause.
Have you scanned the car for any codes?
No non ho fatto nessuna diagnosi ho provato a togliere il tubo vicino la vaschetta dell'acqua e l'acqua usciva poca e c'era anche aria
L'acqua non era fluida
Haha audis.... currently swapping both sensors and intake hose replacement
Haha yea isn't that bad though👍
