Furnace Not Coming On? - How to Diagnose if Dead Heater is a Thermostat Issue and Fix Yourself!

- Hopefully this video helps someone determine whether your thermostat is the reason your home's heater / furnace isn't coming on. I'll show you how to short circuit the switching and see if the heat comes on manually, then I'll show you a couple things you can do to try to fix your current thermostat if it is determined to be the problem.

The house I live in was built by my grandfather in 1959. I have old school gas wall furnaces with the original thermostats. I have one heater near the living room area and the other down the hall by the bedrooms. When I first moved in the house the front furnace pilot would light but it wouldn't kick on.I toughed it out the first year which wasn't too bad being I live in New Orleans but the second year I decided there must be a reason that the heater that always worked my whole life isn't working. These thermostats are a original 1959 and after looking at them and it seemed to be doing what it was supposed to I used my vintage tube amp knowledge and I cleaned the contact with an emery board. Bam, it started working and still does. Probably work forever or until the next person buys the house when I am dead and stupidly decides to upgrade. Moral of the story, if it aint broke don;t fix it.

I thought you were going to put a 1/4" Jack on your furnace and the registers would be the speakers. House amp! Dwell on that.

Crazy I literally just fixed mine.. Luckily I Just had to sand the corrosion from the heat censor
I just fixed my furnance by puttting batteries in the thermostat, which the support guy said it probably wasn't that anyway...

Probably a bad relay on the board. They control when the blower come on. I've replaced relay
boards on my oven twice.
Put a smart thermostat on there for a replacement.
I replaced the thermostat from the 80s in my apartment with a smart thermostat.

the new sensors are meant to controlled manually by the government, so there's that too...
Replace the relay. Almost every '80's hifi amp i have repaired lately have bad relay contacts. It seems that your thermo could be within the same age group.
You could be right about that one. I could have tested further to rule that out.
