I work as a cashier at my local drugstore. A blind woman came in asking for assistance and I knew how to assist her from watching your videos !!!!! Thank you for sharing your experiences ❤️
My guide dog Huckleberry has figured out where all my classes are on my University campus and he remembers all the teachers. Guide dogs are so awesome.
Isn’t that so amazing!! They are such smart creatures, sometimes it doesn’t even seem that they are dogs LOL, maybe a little smarter than humans at times Ha! 💛
Wow, I have a hard enough time finding my classes with sight. Especially when they decide to ruin the app that lists the classes and has a map. University of Alberta has a billion buildings and doors to go through too. Don't feel jealous if your guide dog starts getting better grades than you :P (Smiley emoticon with tongue sticking out)
Amazing. This is so humbling on the days I feel down... I couldn’t even imagine how scary it would be wandering the world in the dark. You have a beautiful heart and such an amazing dog. Keep up the awesome videos !
LOL, well I have to say I am happy UA-cam is suggesting these videos of mine ha ha, glad you find them interesting, but the better question is, are you a new subscriber? I hope so :-), I am always posting videos like these and much more!
@@JoyRoss Well, being honest, when you replied I wasn't a sub yet but I was one by the time I read it xD They are interesting for sure but I'd say, above all, Arabella's and your own cheerful attitude when doing things that come easy to the rest of us and we take for granted is just heartwarming. Not to mention all the wonderful people in your videos Anyway, sorry for making it so long and my bad english (it's my second language xD) but I wish you the best and definitely earned a sub, for once youtube recommended something actually worth watching :)
Lol, stop touching that scarecrow's crotch, you are so cute Joy! You guys are great together. Arabella is awesome. That scarecrow was huge. It was 199 dollars. Love you Joy. So blessed we're personal friends now. Great video, talk later today. You're awesome ♡xx :-) you always bring a smile to my face. Your friendship is a blessing Joy!
I don't know why but watching these videos is so satisfying. I used to always run errands with my mom but now I live alone in a different city and I really miss that. So these videos kind of remind me of that.
Thank you, that’s what everyone has told me since the day I received her. Most black labs have really dark eyes, I love that hers stands out to be very unique :-)
Yes, weren’t they so incredibly sweet! I love the interactions I have with individuals when I’m out shopping, I may brighten their day, but they surely brighten mine too! 🌻
Thank you so much, yes I know, she notice the dog but remained focused. It always catches me a little off guard when there are dogs like that in stores where I don’t expect them, however that little dog was a good puppy and did not bark at Arabella.
Christy Holt Same here! I never know when someone’s dog is simply an unvested SD or a pet so I just try to stay calm and keep a distance to avoid any potential issues because my SD has been attacked twice now and it’s always a very scary experience especially for my dog.
I know! And I sometimes see videos of people with their real dogs confronted the fakes and that’s so dangerous. I always walk away and avoid even if it seems to be a real sd
Wow!!! Jay was so awesome assisting you! I don’t know if your girls or hubby told you, but in the video Jay leans down to get your guiding angels attention to follow her to the counter!! I thought it was so sweet since you told her to tell Aribella to ‘follow’ Love you lots beautiful Joy! ❤️
Arabella is so smart it’s unbelievable! Joy I’m just curious...have you ever broken anything inside a store? If so, how did you and the store owner handle it?
Thank you so much, and yes I have LOL. As I think back, I am only able to recall two different occasions where I broke something in a store. One actually was not my Blind fault, but my first guide dog Antonia’s fault. We were actually walking past a shelf full of breakable glass lamps, I am pretty sure her strong tail wagged and hit the lamp on the lower shelf which knocked it off and it crashed and shattered on pier one imports floor. One of the store sales associate rushed over to us, I told her what happened and they told me to not worry about it. They were super sweet as I was overly apologetic. And get this, the second accident also took place in Pier 1 imports LOL. It is such a breakable store, surprisingly it hasn’t happened more often, I am super careful though. In the second accident, I was purchasing several of these decorative ceramics fears which you can put inside a bowl and place on a table or whatever at home, as I placed a few of the balls on the counter, I didn’t notice one was on the edge and rolled right off and crashed on the floor and shattered and pieces! Again, instantly I was like, I am so so sorry! They were so sweet about it, they kept reassuring me that it is totally OK, they expressed to me that they themselves break things in the store all the time. Perhaps this would make for a good story time video LOL, and if any of my blind friends are out there who have also had similar situations, it would be fun to hear their stories as well in the comment section :-)
Joy Ross thanks so much for responding! Yes, it would make a great topic. Whenever I go to Home Goods, I always have a hard time because their aisles are so narrow! I have my sight and I have a hard time not destroying a store as I move through so I can imagine it would be hard without sight!
You’re videos make me so happy for you. I love watching you have your freedom and independence. Also I’m so impressed with Arabella. It’s amazing what dogs can do. Plus she’s so darn cute! She’s such a hard and smart worker.

That is so sweet, thank you for that! I am truly so happy you enjoy watching me live my life with my family and my beautiful puppies. You guys are so awesome, I love getting to know you through your comments so thank you :-)
Yes, she did a great job for sure. And obviously this was edited footage, we were out much longer. After I finish filming she got to lay down and rest and take a potty break :-)
Thank you, trying to decide when I want to start pulling all of my fall decorations out, thinking maybe next week since the forecast is showing it’s going to be rainy and highs will be in the 60s LOL. Sounds like a perfect fall decorating atmosphere for me! And thank you, I am feeling much better than I was in Hawaii but still in the process of healing.
Omg 😲 I actually freaked out when I saw the pet dog on a flexi leash at 12:59 in the store. I honestly don’t know how people can stoop so low and be so disrespectful to bring their untrained pets. you have been blessed with two amazing guide dogs, who love you unconditionally, I’m so glad that they pretended it’s like that other dog doesn’t even exist. Keep up the great work! Love your content 🥰
Its Zee - yes I think they should have a registry especially for owner trained service dogs. I think it would be great if all service dogs had to pass a public access test and owners had proof of disability ( just like you have to supply if you need disability support like disability benefits) in order to have a service dog. I think it would be great to have an international registry with ID of the handler so when you show your ID, it will have the handlers picture on it just like a driving license or passport so it can’t be used as fraud.
We love to watch your channel. Gunther watches her work.. I think he is in puppy 💘 She is so good .. So happy for you Joy, cant wait for the decorating videos too. You Rock!! God Bless you sweetheart

arabella is so smart does a great job bonus she is full of lv gives kisses wow pier one all the oranges and white furniture so beautiful nice wall art too another great video Jesus bless you that big scarecrow was so neat had very vibrant yellow and orange fall colours
Sweet Joy, thank you so much for this!! Just hearing where you go helps me as a Puppy Raiser. This video is extremely helpful! My pup now 11 months has been to each of your stores you visited. Even Ross! I love it! Thanks to you and another video my pup now gets "Pupachinos." Big hug to you both!
I'm late to the channel but you're an inspiration and these two dogs are awesome. Antonia for doggy president and Arabella for doggy vice president. RIP Antonia
Hi there joy, I graduated from the Portland campus of Guide Dogs For The Blind on June 1 this year. I am a first time guide dog handler, and you are so inspiring. My dog and I had our first outing together all by her self last Friday where I went to get my nails done and then went to get some clothes at the shop. It was very exhilarating, she was amazing, but it is still nerve-racking. I know exactly how you feel based on what you’re saying while you walk around with your camera. I don’t know how you do that, I would totally fall on my face ha ha. Keep up the videos love watching them.
Oh really? I am so truly happy for you and your baby girl! They are life changers aren’t they? I’m sure it felt exhilarating getting out for the first time on your own without anyone else going with you. Trust me, over the next year you are going to see your partnership continue building! Thank you again for watching my videos, 💜
Omg I just found on my recommend as I also follow molly burke. So happy we have so many more people showing us how you navigate life with a guide dog. I have glasses myself but I have always wanted to learn about how guide dogs really help you navigate. So thank you
So happy UA-cam suggested my videos to you, are you a new subscriber? I am always doing fun adventures with guide dog Arabella. And yes, the world needs more blind individuals out here showing the world that blindness is not the end of the world, it in fact is a blessing in so many ways. Many blessings :-)
Oh, that’s awesome! And I thought your name was familiar :-) And don’t worry, there will be more shopping videos to look forward to as the fall season is coming. I love shopping for fall clothing, and fall decorations.
Hi and much respect for you and the effort you put in your videos 👍👍 . also your service dog is a real service dog .. not like the ones some people are talking advantage of the system
Arabella is one smart cookie! I always enjoy watching your adventures to your favorite stores. I have one question though: will you buy the scarecrow? It was super cute. Dark blue overalls with square patches on one of its legs. It also had autumn leaves and pumpkin patches on his stomach area, and a brown burlap hat on his hat. It was wearing a orange, white, and blue plaid shirt. It had on what seemed dark boots on it feet. It’s face reminded me of a drawing a young child would draw. It would look very good outside your house or by a garden for fall. Sending hugs! 🙂
Thank you so much! And even though the huge fun scarecrow was adorable, I don’t think I will be purchasing him for the fall LOL. I don’t think he would hold up super well in our north west rain out front of our home. However, I would’ve loved him 💙 By the way, thank you so much for the detailed descriptions of his outfit and facial look, very helpful :-)
Arabella got confused for a minute when you told her to go inside, but she went all the way to the end, but then she did a wonderful job finding bed bath and beyond, shes so smart
That was such a great adventure, Joy! I have missed you and Arabella out and about. Arabella is so, so smart! I love her so much. 😊❤ She definitely guided you to the correct places. You're so blessed to have her in your life, definitely. 😊🙏
Oh I am so happy you enjoyed our fun and spontaneous adventure LOL! Arabella is such a blessing! By the way how are you? Again, I always love hearing from you :-)
@@JoyRoss hi Joy! I'm doing well, thanks. I hope you are fully recovered from the infection you had while on vacation in Hawaii. The only sad situation my children and I are currently experiencing, is the fact that one of our dogs, Tigger (16 years old), has liver cancer. We found out a few weeks ago. He's on a special diet and because of his arthritis also, he's a bit weak when on his legs. However, he's still eating and the vet said that as long as he's eating and has a good enough quality of life, to enjoy him as long as possible. The vet also told us that when he's no longer interested in food, we'll know it's time. So we're loving him as much as possible for as long as he's with us. Thanks so much for asking about me and I feel loved and appreciated by you and your family (including your canine family), because of this. ❤😊
I am not completely blind yet but have inflammatory glaucoma and uvietis. I am looking into getting a dog. Your channel has reminded me I can ask for help
I’m not blind but I do have seizures and I wish I could have a guide dog to help me out when I need it but I can’t I’m allergic to dogs so when I need help I have to ask my mom for help and I know I get on her nerves when I ask her to help me out I love all the videos I watch so far I just found your channel the day I’m writing this comment
Are you coming to this video from another video where I went shopping for lunch bags? If so, these videos are a couple of years apart, and yes, lunch bags definitely can get beat up when using them every day for two years :-)
Hahah yeah I did , I watched the most recent one of you shopping . I agree , my mother ran over my lunch box during the morning run when I was a kid and I had to eat squashed sandwiches for lunch .
This is going to sound really weird, but watching your videos sometimes makes me wish I was blind just so I can have all these wonderful life affirming experiences you share with us. I've never had any interaction with a blind person before in my 28 years of life but when I do I know that I will be able to assist someone correctly, and respectfully, if they choose to accept it thanks to the training you have given me. Thank you Joy Ross.
I don't know if you knew but there was another dog when you were checking out in bed bath and beyond. It didnt have a service dog vest and was trying to go to arabella. I dont think they are dog friendly, but some places are different
I love watching your videos! I work in customer service where I actually help women try on bras and am a qualified bra fitter. I always wondered if someone who had no eyesight came in, how would I approach the fit to get it right and make them feel comfortable. I now feel pretty confident on how to help if I ever have the pleasure ❤ Your positive vibe on your videos always makes my day!
I was impressed at how smart Arabella was at the end haha. I got curious, did you know that Jay, the girl from Bed, Bath and Beyond has blue hair? And how curious you get about people's appearances when you talk to them?
Jack GeF they most likely don’t know the specific case their owners have but do know there is something off and they know they are needed. Dogs are so amazing if you think about.. what all do they really know??
I would like to see about me getting some books in braille I would like to know some things about that would be good to work on processing it. I am going blind. Don’t know what the cause of it is yet still waiting to find out hopefully this year.
It can sometimes be distracting, but it is up to me as her handler to keep her in check. She did great in this situation, she usually does, but it also depends on how well behaved the other dog is. This little dog was really good, and it’s owner was great at keeping him/her away from Arabella.
Thank you so much! Yes, her coat is extremely shiny, I can tell just by the way it feels. She eats the food that Guide Dogs for the Blind has fed her since I received her. The brand of dog food is called natural balance.
Thanks Joy :) I have a mini schnauzer.. he’s black and white he’s 17 pounds with big hairy eyebrows and a big beard with fluffy legs cut hair cut short on body and chest with a rectangle shaped head with floppy ears and a nub tail
LOL, that’s what my husband told me when he saw my video, really cool looking, but for $200, I don’t think it would be worth it because it probably would not hold up outside in the rain ha ha :-)
How does she know to find the door, as in what is it that she looks for? I am training a guide dog for the guide dog foundation starting Friday. Since the dog will be very young, puppy raisers only teach basic obedience and the dog will learn task like "find door" once they go on to the next level.
That is so awesome you are going to be training a guide dog puppy! I am not the one who trained Arabella on finding doors, but I know I train her on specific things such as finding a counter in a store or a light pole at a intersection. The way anyone trains these dogs on finding specifics is through using a clicker and then following it up with praise and food reward. There’s obviously a little more to it than that, but with the clicker, repetitive actions, praise, and food, they pick up on everything super fast. Good luck on your puppy raising, I so appreciate what you are doing to help others like me :-)
I'm a volunteer coordinator and for the first time, I'm working with someone who is visually impaired and uses a guide dog. Any tips to help or things I should/shouldn't do/say? This is unchartered territory for me but I'm excited to learn!

I laughed when you touched the scarecrow’s crotch area. the girl was giggling too. you are so bubbly ♥️
I'm late to the channel but you're an inspiration and these two dogs are awesome. Antonia for doggy president and Arabella for doggy vice president. RIP Antonia
Arabella is so smart. I’m glad you guys are learning together and making such a good team.
I love this video so much! Joy you are so inspiring and your Arabella is such a sweet angel❤
That means so much, thank you, she is such a sweetheart and she’s cuddled up with me even at this moment. I couldn’t imagine my life without her.
I love how the dog helps you out that is nice that she can do that!
Thank you, she is such a huge help to me :-)
I love her so much!!!
You are so amazing Joy. I’m a fan of you and your guide dog:)

Wow Joy very cool
You two make a great team!
Hey there! It's good to see you again and your guide dog!
Lovely watching your videos....you and Arabella are a wonderful match...many best wishes from Australia 🐶🍀🌞🤗
Joy, you seriously described that 6ft scarecrow to a T!!!! That’s awesome
LOL, really? I can’t honestly see color, but everything else I see perfectly :-) well, you know what I mean Ha :-)
Yes!! You did amazing ! A 6 ft farmer pumpkin scarecrow is how I would describe him. And his tag description is 6 Ft scarecrow greeter ❤️
Hoping you're doing better since the Hawaii visit joy!
Thank you so much for asking, obviously feeling better but I’m still healing. 💙
SHE IS AMAZING!!!
@@JoyRoss yeah I subscribed as soon as I saw your video. Keep up the great work. Will definitely be watching
Great video! DO MORE SHOPPING VIDEOS PLEASE they are really fun to watch
So glad you enjoy my shopping videos! Are you new to my channel? :-)
No I’m not I just already watched all of the other shopping videos on your channel so I was happy to see more :)
Oh, that’s awesome! And I thought your name was familiar :-)
And don’t worry, there will be more shopping videos to look forward to as the fall season is coming. I love shopping for fall clothing, and fall decorations.
So amazing to see!
However, I would’ve loved him 💙
By the way, thank you so much for the detailed descriptions of his outfit and facial look, very helpful :-)
She definitely guided you to the correct places.
There was a little dog. In the store. At the cashier desk. Trying to distract Arabella. To no avail :-)
I love your videos so much!! Arabella is so great☺️
That means so much, thank you! :-)
Your girls go through lunch bags like no tomorrow lol
Are you coming to this video from another video where I went shopping for lunch bags? If so, these videos are a couple of years apart, and yes, lunch bags definitely can get beat up when using them every day for two years :-)
Hahah yeah I did , I watched the most recent one of you shopping . I agree , my mother ran over my lunch box during the morning run when I was a kid and I had to eat squashed sandwiches for lunch .
I didn't realize Bed Bath and Beyond let pet dogs in their stores. I was really surprised to see the French bulldog when you were at the checkout.
Ross allows dogs too and I've seen the workers get mad having to clean up the mess as the owners ignore it
This is going to sound really weird, but watching your videos sometimes makes me wish I was blind just so I can have all these wonderful life affirming experiences you share with us.
Bed bath and beyonds are dog friendly but some managers don't allow dogs, it depends most do.
@@jizzypuff ah ok! I dont have one near me so I wasn't sure. Thank you!
Brilliant xoxooxoxo
I love watching your videos! I work in customer service where I actually help women try on bras and am a qualified bra fitter. I always wondered if someone who had no eyesight came in, how would I approach the fit to get it right and make them feel comfortable. I now feel pretty confident on how to help if I ever have the pleasure ❤ Your positive vibe on your videos always makes my day!
I was impressed at how smart Arabella was at the end haha.
I got curious, did you know that Jay, the girl from Bed, Bath and Beyond has blue hair? And how curious you get about people's appearances when you talk to them?
I think shops should have different doors that would be amazing so u know like 1, 3 and 5 has slide door and 2, 4, 6 has push door
Do service dogs know that their owners can't see?
Jack GeF they most likely don’t know the specific case their owners have but do know there is something off and they know they are needed. Dogs are so amazing if you think about.. what all do they really know??
I would like to see about me getting some books in braille I would like to know some things about that would be good to work on processing it. I am going blind. Don’t know what the cause of it is yet still waiting to find out hopefully this year.
aw
I saw there was another dog at the store you went into is that distracting for your guide dog? I was a little surprised that other dog was allowed in.
It can sometimes be distracting, but it is up to me as her handler to keep her in check. She did great in this situation, she usually does, but it also depends on how well behaved the other dog is. This little dog was really good, and it’s owner was great at keeping him/her away from Arabella.
Joy, I think you may have accidentally posted this reply on the wrong comment! Just a heads up to let you know :)
pickle juice thank you so much, I just deleted the second comment which was intended for someone else. I appreciate the heads up :-)
You're very welcome! Happy to help!
That’s so good I’m glad it went well! Arabella is a champ and you were a great handler for sure 😊
How do you film these videos? I love them! My middle name is Joy. 😊
Books with Aly she just points the camera and films :-)
oof out door mall im glad there was cool shade mostly
Yes, but it actually was not a hot day, just perfect for being outside :-)
what do you feed her? her coat is so shiny and beautiful
Cool looking scarecrow. But $200 is what the tag said lol
This is unchartered territory for me but I'm excited to learn!
jennell bethea Watch all of Joy’s videos and you’ll be a pro.
Love your shopping adventures! That Scarecrow is on sale at our Michael's too, except instead of your regular price of $600 ours is $900! Oh Canada..
Thank you, and LOL, that is crazy!
