Great job!!❤❤❤ It made me nervous listening to this video because I was run over in the crosswalk 3 1/2 years ago, and I haven’t walked across that street since. I didn’t have the strength in my legs to walk for the first year, but now I just get really nervous when I approach any large intersection. I have to cross a 6 lane rd first when I go to the shopping center a mile away, then I have to cross a 4 lane rd(which is where I was hit twice, the last time breaking my right leg just under the knee) in order to get to the bus stop and/or main mall. All I hear is the traffic and I start to panic a bit. Lol. I’ll get back to it by next spring or summer though… I hope. 😅😅
I’m so sorry that happened to you! I wish there were more things to protect people in crosswalks. Maybe you can get the same training Joy did at leader dog too
@AmyB369 I’ve already had the training, I however don’t use a guide dog, just a white cane. The safety measures are there, but people that can see are the ones driving & don’t pay attention to their surroundings or what’s in the road in front of them. I mean people don’t purposely run into or over blind people, they just run into or over anyone crossing the street because they’re not paying attention. The only difference is that us blind people can't see if someone is going too fast and we can't avoid the impact because we’re listening to ALL of the traffic around us instead of individual vehicles. I actually went to the mall management to bring awareness to that very intersection before I was hit the first time. It's a mess, I wish they’d put up some flashing lights or something.
I have low vision and even with Some sight that intersection looks so scary. Congratulations on crossing it so successfully. Can you make a video any tips you have for not veering also you mentioned in a previous video that they were going to show you some skills to help you with crossing related to your hearing loss so could you mention what that was.
i just went to a local pottery show and it the admission price was for the leader dogs for the blind charity! (i live 10 minutes from the leader dog campus). i hope you get your leader dog soon 💖
