    Recently I got a hold of the Chestnut version from Goulet Pens.
    Couldn't be happier, especially when using India ink (Speedball Super Black)for art work. No issues what so ever.
    Your merchandise is always a good investment with me. I've learned so much about pens through your tutorials on: how a pen works, assembly / disassembly and how to trouble shoot the issues involved.....the learning experience is worth it's weight in gold.
    Nathan, keep up the great work!!
    "You are a Great American!"(I forgot who says that line[on radio talk show]....but it's true).

    I sure hope that the Provoke Puritan ink will be available to those that cannot attend the show. I believe this will be a wonderful addition in the vein of Blue Nosed Bear but in my favorite colors.

      I genuinely find Nathan's videos enjoyable for exactly the same reasons as why Bob Ross was so popular. When he's showing things that are so intensely fascinating it's one of the most mesmerizing things I've ever seen.

    Impressive label artwork AND sentiment! I cannot fathom why anyone would be offended, but some are. So be it. Stand Strong Nathan.

    Yes please on a clear Boston Safety pen! (or somewhere in the EU that has stock of the black one and the inks?)
    Also - would something like the Pilot Frixion ink be possible as a fountain pen ink? (heat/friction erasable ink)

    • @InkNeedLastForever
      @InkNeedLastForever  6 років тому

      We tried an erasable ink in a fountain pen...it was a while ago (10+ years?). Do you think and can you tell me why public interest in this concept might have improved since then?? The ink has to float on top of the paper fibers and never penetrate (will never be permanent) - then it has to rub off in a single "carpet" being rolled up off those fibers. I did not have a good experience with it...people bought Waterase inks far more for use on plexiglas/lexan than they did that prototype. Some joked that it was better to just buy a pencil. Waterase inks (remove with a quick swipe of a damp paper towel) seemed to please more people than those which required a rubber eraser. If you make a good point - I'll try again and see if a better one can be made.

    • @10milesfromnowhere
      @10milesfromnowhere 6 років тому

      I did not know you once made an erasable ink, can I buy a bottle? (I've got a super early whiteness of the whale. And a bottle of Bluerase for my whiteboard). I would definitely not mind a rubber-eraser erasable ink - indeed like a pencil but so much better in ink form and far more 'permanent' than graphite which will eventually rub/smudge off. Something that resembles the Pilot Frixion ink - very smudge proof and permanent until heat/friction is applied - would be great too. Maybe it would mean that you could use fountain pens in Rocketbook Everlast notebooks too? But I'll take any blue / black erasable ink, heat or rubber.
      For one it would mean far easier correcting than current available methods. Now you either correct it with stuff you can only write on top of with a ballpoint, or if it's a washable blue ink you can chemically erase the blue with one of those pens, but there too you can't write on top of that same spot with FP ink. If it was an erasable ink you can just erase and write on top with the same ink.
      I started a topic on Reddit to see if more people would be interested in erasable inks. Let's see what arguments the community can come up with!

      Hey Nathan, I work in theatre and I spend a lot of money in frixion pens because of the changing nature of notation - not to mention I'm writing a lot. A heat reactive or even an erasable ink would let me write more comfortably!

    • @PacoElMapache
      @PacoElMapache 5 років тому +1

      @@InkNeedLastForever i feel like over the last 10 years people have started being more ecological and so an erasable ink could be nice for calligraphy practice or use with a reusable or smart notebook. Also for a student which needs to write many papers or in a business setting where notes may need to be taken. Writing with a fountain pen in a classroom or boardroom setting can be enjoyable but being able to correct errors without crossing out words would be very practical, especially on traditional paper. Yes, we can just buy a pencil or now the widely available frixion, but its not the same as the trusty fountain pen. As well as being more economical and ecologicalin the long run than always buying a 3 doller pen when it run out and throwing out the old one.

    Wish I could attend the Boston show in support (and purchasing) of your inks. If we allow our rights to be tread upon, we are no better than those who did the stomping. Anyway, I do plan to attend a show in the next couple of months for the first time ever just to seek out Noodler's! (Well, I might look at the pens, too.) :) Thank you, Nathan.

    Ugh! I go to Peabody every year to visit my mother, but we can never arrange it during the time for the Commonwealth Pen Show! Always winds up being June or July.
    Not sure I’ll ever get to ask you in person, so I was wondering if you could tell me about a special bottle of one of your inks. It is called Red Oak Garnet and I have bottle #1 of 25. Not a single person knows anything about this ink. Since I can never connect with you at that show, could you tell me something about it?

    Thanks Nathan. I'm a Noodler's fan, owning a number of your inks and the Boston Safety pen in chestnut. I would love to be able to draw with the Safety demonstrator and the Enlightenment Defense ink. Living in Canada, I can't attend the Commonwealth show. Can I obtain them online?

    • @InkNeedLastForever
      @InkNeedLastForever  6 років тому +3

      I'm not sure. There is always a chance they don't sell out...or perhaps the British won't be as skilled in their salesmanship as the Yanks and some will be available online later on. If Enlightenment Defense did not sell out in San Francisco this weekend - there might be some from the dealers who were on the west coast. If only a handful of people show up in Boston - it would likely be available later. Who knows? I might say something offensive and be boycotted! ;-)
      As a plastic pen, it is a novelty in that it is restricted to water based inks. Thus it is capable of using the water based bonded "Committee of Safety" series inks, but it would never be able to utilize all the chemical solvents an artist might be tempted to use in a safety pen (such as lacquers and chemical solvent containing India inks). That is why I believe it to be the perfect candidate for a lure to get more people to pay attention to the Commonwealth Pen Show. The real magic - the greatest utility...of the safety pen design since 1896 - is its ebonite construction and its ability to utilize so many varied writing fluids. How many feeds are made today of ebonite? How many pens? Now how many safety pens are made entirely of ebonite and are $55? Adjust the 1896 price (a pen only for the wealthy at that time) - noting that the Noodler's version can be serviced without tools, unlike that made in 1896 - and inflation indicates the price level of $55 was pulling a camel through the eye of a needle. They will continue to be available..and eventually I hope to make them common enough to be recognizable instruments again in art schools as they once were...but most importantly: if you do by chance miss the demonstrator, remember the ebonite version will continue to be available and has far more applicable uses.

    • @jacobslemmer6168
      @jacobslemmer6168 2 роки тому

      @@InkNeedLastForever this is what I’m looking for. An all ebonite safety pen usable with most anything. Pure pens has the commonwealth blue demonstrator available, but I figured it was not safe for many mediums, and it appears I was correct.

    Very exciting, Mr. Tardif! I won't be able to make the shows, but I'm definitely looking forward to the "Provoke the Puritan" ink. I'm a graduate student, and I'm not complete sure what you mean about us not having out first amendment rights.

    • @InkNeedLastForever
      @InkNeedLastForever  6 років тому +2

      When I was in college there were things people could openly debate without fear -which would get one expelled at many institutions today. Two fellows I remember on the other side who both came to my campus and debated...debated ANY topic that was brought up...were none other than Sen. Kennedy and Rep. Barney Frank. We also challenged Timothy Leary and G. Gordon Liddy in ways that would make a modern dean or administrator's skin crawl. There was virtually NO political correctness even resembling what is enforced on some campus environments today. I do not even feel free to repeat what once could be openly discussed back then...even with Sen. Kennedy and Rep. Frank! Thus, that label is just my feeling/belief that a deeper and more reliable sense of freedom to discuss ideas openly in the public square has been lost. When you edit your own speech before you speak as often as many do today - it is very much akin to Puritan rule over Massachusetts Bay. Don't just take my word for it - Jerry Seinfeld now refuses to perform at college campuses...and none other than Mel Brooks has some key things to say about our precipitous decline in tolerance for freedom of speech and expression.

    • @therealcornkid
      @therealcornkid 6 років тому

      I agree with you that the first amendment is a key component of what makes our great country stand out and is arguably the most important right we have as citizens; it's also one that we must continue to exercise. There has been a significant societal shift and political correctness has affected the way I speak and the opinions that I am willing to share in public. I have heard of some of the ridiculous responses that student groups at various Universities have had to differing political views, but I question how wide-spread some of the more radical practices have made it in our institutions of higher learning. I'm a graduate student and lecturer at Jefferson's University and I don't think free speech is as much under fire here as the media may have portrayed it to be.
      I would love to discuss this with you further; I would like to hear your perspective. Would you be available to continuing this conversation via snail-mail or email? It would remain private between us.

    Most Wry video on youtube? Also - will you bring back your suffragettes set for the centennial of the 19th Amendment next year? (Or in two years, depending on if you go by congress or states ratifying.) It would mean a lot to so many.

    • @InkNeedLastForever
      @InkNeedLastForever  6 років тому +5

      That is a great idea...but it would have to be a slightly different label...or marked "100th anniversary"/centennial. The components for the original are no longer available - so a second run would be a likeness, but not identical. Some of the women in the movement at that time were blood relations to me - so I would have more than one reason for producing an extremely reverent label to their efforts.
      I'll try to offer something at this year's show if I can find a similar material to what was used then - as you are not the first who has asked...and you are very correct about how important the upcoming date is...
