    Ever wonder why you spend so much time sorting through the little dink perch to find a couple larger ones mixed in? Might be some simple reasons why.
    Roger dives into the mystery reasoning he has found about sorting through perch.
    Why they are where they are.
    What they are feeding on.
    What age class has to do with it, and a whole lot more.

    Thanks for sharing so much information with us, Roger. I'm local and Lake George has been my favorite ice fishing spot for many years. I really enjoy your videos and yes, when you understand the biology of the lake and the biology of fish, it's much easier to understand the impact we can have on both and that's something we should all be thinking about. @@RogersRigs I'm retirement age and due to a recent procedure at the hospital I haven't been out, except for today. We fished about four hours at Huletts Landing but couldn't find any perch. We tried in water from 14ft out to 35 ft and it seemed like it was a muck bottom without much for weeds. I went out to the bottom edge of the steep drop off trying for lakers in about 68ft of water and had one mouthing my swim bait a few times, but that was about it before we called it quits. As for the small perch and the die off, I can't really say one way or the other.

    great video , a basic perch question. when I go up to Wisconsin we find very few perch in the spring. same lake can do well in the fall. are they to busy with a spawn in the spring ?? I know they are not out deep because there is not any 1500 acres of 3-9 feet of water few holes. catch ya later.

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  3 роки тому +1

      they will not bite during the spawn at all. it can be really frustrating because you can see them but they woont take anything. that is dependent on the water temp. (i think mid 50s) then they disperse to the weeds to feed for the warmer months and they are harder to find. since they are not in big groups.

    So glad you mentioned genetics. That is one reason we see more and more slot lakes.
    As for size this is why we have cameras. Document it... No need to remove it from the breeding pool!
    Also, think of lobster. I'd much rather have two 1-1/4 pound lobsters than one two pound (+) lobster! More tenderer!
    The point being bigger ain't always better. Thanks for doing these!!

      @@RogersRigs As far as I recall there are none for yellow perch... Size or amounts. They do an odd thing here in WA... Lakes, not fish are seasonal. Meaning whole bodies of water are closed to fishing so targeting other species is impossible. That said, some lakes do remain open year round. I always found this frustrating as people will pull bass off the nest when they are most aggressive leaving the eggs/fry open to predators.
      I'll verify and see if that Perch reg has changed. Meanwhile, here is an interesting Perch Study:
