- The MS-09B Dom is a heavy, high performance MS developed by Zimmad, with an emphasis on ground combat. The combined thrust of the thermonuclear jet engines and the chemical rockets built into the legs allows it to hover at high speed over the surface of the Earth. Furthermore, a block structure has been introduced into the body. In addition to the performance of the machine itself, its main armament, the 360mm Giant Bazooka, boasts firepower that surpasses that of previous Zeon mobile suits, and it can be said to be a machine that combines offensive power, defensive power, and mobility at a high level. Due to its high performance, the Dom soon replaced the MS-07 Gouf as the Zeon forces' main ground unit. Several units were shipped to South East Asia.
08th MS Team did an amazing job taking somewhat cartoony designs & updating them without really changing anything.
aside from some newly designed suits
i think just drawing them with more detail was all it took for them to be taken more seriously
animation equivalent of camera direction also makes em feel more terrifying

@@spartana1116 Not even that, look at the quality of animation in 0080 which came out in 1989, just ten years after the original Gundam. 0083 and 8th MS weren’t far ahead either. IMO the late 80s to mid 90s was the peak of anime, the Japanese economy was roaring and money was being thrown around left and right. When the good times ended it’s been a slow decline since IMO. Yea we have digital now but CGI mechas and characters look wonky to me and even the hand drawn art is too clean and inking too perfect that the image ends up looking bland and sterile.
Fun thing. The Dom funf looks suspiciously similar to the 8th team design.

The animation was so good. The Dom was always one of my favorite mobile suits. My favorite variation is the Dom Tropen and the Green Dom from war in the pocket. But the way they made the Dom look here bad ass. Just like the zakus in earlier episodes felt they had a pretty cool look to them. At least to me they look somewhat different than the ones shown in these last few episodes.
That's OVA for you. Glorious theatrical film animation level and by being a Sunrise production, it always top notch.

後にザクの頭載っけたザクゼータなんて機体出てくるからジム頭も悪くない。(英語のゼットが使えないから不便)

We need more Gundam series/games like 08th MS. There's far too many bajillion missiles crazy experimental gundam series out there already. To me this is the best the series has to offer because it feels so much more believable, which is impressive considering the subject material
My dream Gundam series would be similar to your idea. A 50 episode series like 08th Ms team of the regular soldiers in the one year war. Follow a zeon and federation squad with equal time for both throughout the war and showcase not just the mobile suits but the fighters and tanks and infantry. Sort of like Ms igloo and some of the episodes in 08th Ms team like with the Magella tanks. But keep it serious in tone for the most part with the animation style of 90s and that would be my dream Gundam show lmao
Sadly they wont ever spend much budget for a good Gundam game. Vs was OK, BO2 is enjoyable but clunky, New GB sucks, SD Alliance is average, etc....

Best tv series example I can think of is Cowboy Bebop . 08th MS Team's level of animation is no different than a theatrical anime film due to being OVA (released only for home video, never meant for tv). For tv series, you got a schedule and deadline to meet, crunching is inevitable unless you have a proper management and planning. Animators are still human beings, you know.

@@HamanKarn567Closest i can think off that can offer this was the Lost War Chronicles game where you play a specific squad from both sides. I think that story was ok... although LWC was kinda a bit on the BS side where you and your squad were awarded THE top tier units from both sides (i.e Revil personally assigns the testing of the GP01 to you... or Char himself awarding his custom Zaku II to you) ... but thats definitely more game experience than actual lore lmao
Or Gundam Rise from the Ashes... the one featuring the White Dingo squad and the rivalry between Master and Vince ... that would be interesting to adapt

このシーンめちゃくちゃ好きです。ノリスがかっこいいーー
一応接触することで円滑な通信させてるって設定があったはず
パイロットスーツを着てると、生体電流だったかでわりと細かい動きが出来る、だったかな……
一部の機体はＡＩが搭載されてて、学習させるとハンドサインやお辞儀する、みたいな動作が可能
Ｚ期、特に３６０度リニアシートになると、パイロットの動きをトレースして頭の向きや機体の向きを変えられるようになってますね
ドムがザクマシンガンを持っている構図がガンダム世界での既存兵器にはないモビルスーツの最大のメリットを現していると思う...
(武器の持ち替えの容易さによる高い汎用性)
ドムがジャイアントバズ抱えてないってのもロマンですよね！
物資が不足しているだけでは有るんでしょうけど。

08th is by far one of my favorites to date still. It made Gundam so much more "down to earth" lol then the rest

everyone was just a normal person fighting in a war, that made it hit different

Things pretty durable. The back sides not even damaged, only thing it lost is the head and the pilots probably still alive inside but stuck and probably knocked out.
Yeah, all the Dom MS are usually pretty well armored.
Doms were built to be the ultimate ground mobile suit (before beam weapons were made). They were meant to be very well armored against cannon fire but still be incredibly fast.

しかしこの時代の作画はすごいな
今見ても全く見劣りしないし、アニメーターの血の滲む努力が伝わってくる
見ている人の目が肥えとるから少しでも手を抜くとすぐにバレてしまうからです😮
都市戦をメインで行ったため監督はアニメーターに相当恨まれたそうです

I like how those last two episodes showed how the Zeon pilots outclassed the Feds by far, but they just were spread so thin they couldn't win.
Also love how these older showed have the head loss not be a instant disable.

I love that these are the more standard zeon MS in the closing act, the fact that they have brought F types instead of J types shows that they mean business
Those zaku II's are JC types, a slight variant of the J type.

RIP to that Guntank crew. Rewatched this recently and totally forgot they saved Karen earlier. Then later she got tricked and outmaneuvered and the whole crew died. Heartbreaking.

ジオン軍が開発した傑作兵器ドムのバリエーション機。
肩部などが若干オリジナルと異なっているが、特に性能面に違いはないと思われる。
また、ドムでは珍しくザク・マシンガンを装備した機体も登場。対空迎撃ならばジャイアント・バズより適切と判断したためか、物資不足のためか、はたまたパイロットの趣味と思われる。
劇中ではその機動力を遺憾無く発揮し、陸戦型ガンダムを追い詰めていた。

So true Dom never walk most of the time. Unless your however jets are damaged (your pretty screwed in GBO2 when using a Dom after losing its legs)

Another Dom walking scene is in Gundam Build Fighters Try, when Sekai used the Dom, he walked it before discovered that he can hover the Dom too.

Rick dom is for space use, dom is ground use. Don't confuse them.

I made a Dom with newtype capabilities in Gundam Breaker 3. It has Zeong's arms and funnel racks for all range attacks. I call it...Psycho Dom

Zeonic Front used this design of the Dom to represent the MS-09F Dom Funf, which was an error given that the design for the Dom Funf at the time was the design that was later retconned into the YMS-09R Prototype Rick-Dom Zwei... which is just plain stupid as far as I'm concerned.
So they made two errors one after another before they finally managed to correct it.
