I strongly disagree. ISFP are some of the most diabolically unintelligent MBTI (neuro-psychology) form a person can be born as.
Great representation of the ISFP would be 'Judas Iscariot'. ISFP are emotionally-selfish/self-centered, emotional-empathy is NOT their strong suit. I've noticed that they are often oblivious to malicious intent coming from narcissists, ESFJ, and ESTJ personality types.
'Oblivious-codependents' is an accurate compound word that accurately describes their default through process, particularly when relating to other people. And thank about it, is there a difference in behavior between the ISFP and [conventional] codependency? Not really.
ISFP are also highly prone to intellectually neglect their children.
Anyway, prone/benefit that neuropsychology form might offer is HEAVILY dependent on external factors DIRECTLY influencing them, e.g. their intelligence is limited to whatever they've learnt in school (i.e. since they look at things on the surface level by default, without thorough introspection, they factually lack depth in understanding; which ultimately limits their creativity).
And their morality is dependent on social influences, much like the ESFJ, e.g. the 'humanity'-virtue, and by extension having a 'moral compass' is not an 'instinct' for them (not an internal characteristic). This makes it [feel] half-hearted and easily discarded in stressful situations - this is one of the many reasons that being 'fickle' is a core trait of the ISFP neuro-psychology.
Would you 'permanently' trade your [MBTI] neuro-psychology for that of an ISFP? I'm guessing "no" (if we're honest), and neither would I.
For a neuro-psychological "buff" in art, I would highly recommend and prefer the INFP! As they embody art!

ISFPs are more grounded and practical than INFPs, we actually get things done than thinking about it, and who wouldn't want that?

I always wonder why we ISFPs have the stereotypes we have. People seem to think we're all Disney Princesses or dreamy artists or something. These people are often brought up short when they cross the ISFP's values system. We can be quite resolute. And I really don't get where the 'overly emotional' thing comes from, that's an Fe thing, not an Fi thing. If an Fi dom doesn't want you to have access to their feelings, _you won't._

As an Isfp, I agree with the "overly emotional".. I am but I'm really good at hiding it. It comes out when I'm alone and that's exactly why I need my time alone to really be able to live and accept those emotions

Isfps are overly emotional but internally. We do not show it to others unless we truly trust them and they share the same values. That is why we can seem so paradoxical. We are one thing, but also a completely opposite thing at the same time, as he said in the video, elegant, but we have grit and toughness.
Literally every single point is so spot on. You always understand ISFPs so well in a way a lot of others don't. We so often get boxed into a wishy-washy 'artist' archetype and it overlooks all the other aspects. I love seeing more ISFP content, there isn't enough of it in the MBTI community

Haha! That part made me think of my ISFP son, when he was little and I asked him why he wouldn’t ever allow me to order him “fun lunches” on their fun lunch days, at school. He said, “I don’t know if it’ll even come on time *or* if I’ll even like it when it does come, so I’d rather just have my own lunch, from home, that I know I’ll like and I know I’ll get on time and have enough time to eat.” I thought that was just *sooo* *adorable!* He was just a little guy and that actually made a lot of sense, for someone with his nature.
That's an Fi thing.
You must know an isfp well because I don't feel they are known intimately by the mbti community, they like esfp get skirted over with not much depth. Thanks for this.
I'm an INTJ and my brother is ISFP. I can definitely say your description is very accurate. He has that aura of being very kind and strong at the same time, I always find this fascinating. He has more heart than me and a lot of patience.
One of my closest pals is an ISFP, and while she's very easy going and gentle, she does have the capacity to be a leader in many instances, and she pleasantly surprises me with some of her amazing insights regarding various topics.
Makes sense! When you flip the cognitive functions around you get an ENTJ. 👍 As an INFP I can sometimes do ESTJ-like things in addition to the stuff you’d expect.

Isfps insight if often underestimated that’s why some are surprised once an isfp open up.
I didn’t know ISFPs often mistyped as INTJs. That’s what happened to me when I first got into MBTI. Took me a few years to realize something wasn’t right about that, and I briefly cycled to INTP and INFP before finally getting it right.
The same here. I did the MBTI - the one with the angular couloured comics - quite often, and noted it switches, depending on my actual 'passions' or occupations. I usually I seem to answer 'balanced' neither nor in favour of a thing, situation, wish, BUT if a tiny thing happened, that occupies my mind, - say, I came home from a party I enjoyed, I have to go to a meeting I won't enjoy, I am working on a project that needs focussing solitude, I am working on a project that needs teamwork, I switch myself in the mood (it isn't much afford, and if I have been running in hat mood for about a week, it gets innate and changes my answers and I get misstyped.

Im starting to think the same thing is happening to me. I took the MBTI and got INTP, took a more detailed one and got INFP, looked into it and worked with my friend who came to the conclusion I was either an ENTJ or INTJ. Now that im getting into it again, im not sure any of the above mentioned personalities are correct ! Lol
My ISFP son is definitely the strong silent type and he’s extraordinarily and deeply emotional, but not obviously so (maybe why they sometimes get mistaken for INTJs).
In high school, he was once told by one of his teachers that his “stand-offishness” made her feel “very uncomfortable”. This absolutely destroyed him, as he’s incredibly sensitive and he only ever wanted to be perceived as a good and kind person. Since he went all the way through school with the same peer group, his peers knew this about him and many of them would confide in him, knowing he’d be gentle, kind and empathetic toward them and their feelings. That high school teacher (who was in a whole different community, so she didn’t know him very well, but taught his whole life-long peer group) saying that to him was actually, incredibly insensitive and cruel.
He comes off as calm, collected and totally in control. If he’s going to get really upset (which is fairly rare) it’ll only ever be in private and it’ll be either when he’s completely alone or in the company of his most trusted people, which isn’t many.
He’s also extreeeemely romantic and he *hates* seeing guys be players. He also hates seeing women being cruel to men. He’s *extremely* selective and he doesn’t do the casual dating scene. He could easily be a player, himself, and he even knows it, but he never would. His heart just doesn’t/can’t do that. His INTJ brother, on the other hand, quite enjoys the exciting dating scene. That’s one *big* way in which my two sons *really* differ! My ISFP son even drifted away from his life long, very good friend, when his friend grew up and became a player. He even *told* *off* his former best friend for how he was so insensitively treating the girls. And he would comfort and console the girls. So, I agree with you that ISFPs *can* actually be quite forceful, but only sometimes and only if it’s something that *really* goes against their most deeply held, core values. He was *so* *pissed!*
He also told me not that long ago, that he always hated how every time he did group projects in high school, his peers in his groups would always assign *him* as the leader, so you were bang on, there, as well! And that’s actually why he said he hated group projects! He also said he couldn’t ever get everyone organized properly and his visions would end up flopping, as a result of his inability to explain and organize.

Adam Irfan - I also have an INTJ son. My two boys (ISFP & INTJ) shared a room growing up. I can definitely understand how/why some people could mistake and mix up one for the other. Only if they don’t know them particularly well, though, like I do.

I find that my own personality presentation is heavily influenced by those personalities I regularly surround myself with, the most. Most people are *heavily* influenced by their closest people. My people include (ISTJx2, INTJ, ISFP, INFP, ENTP). I also speak to an ENTJ female but she drives me kinda bonkers with her blind & blunt harshness, so I tend to keep that one at arm’s length. I also have an ENFP sister who I’m fairly close with and I speak to regularly, but she seriously exhausts me. I’m INFJ.

The thing about ISFP's being confused with INTJ is more actually when and ISFP is stressed and in an inferior grip, they actually become ENTJ, upside down functions.

Oh, yes, I know the feeling... I also end up leading because I see "leaders" neglecting the fact they lead individuals. Like as long as it works great for 30& and 50& more can clench their teethe and pretend it's fine, the last 20% can be ignored.
In the fields I end up in it often means life-threatening situations, so I feel obligated to step up.

I used to feel like I had two different personalities, which is really me being able to super easily flip between the Ni “analytical, thoughtful” view and the Se “go with the flow” view. I’m curious how you got to know the type so well… are you close with many ISFPs maybe?

Yes, I’ve found recently that I am very much capable of thinking the same way as INTJs. I’m not sure it’s my preferred method- but I do use it a lot when I am uncomfortable.

This is sooo sweet. My two sons are INTJ and ISFP. They always shared a room and have been each other’s’ best and closest friends, event to this day. They rarely fight and they rarely ever fought growing up and when they have, they’ve both taken it *extremely* seriously. The two types are sooo perfect for each other. ISFP can see straight through to the deeply protected soft parts of the INTJ, allowing INTJ to know there are a few people in this world who know, and can see, that they’re *far* more than just their tough, steel seeming, exterior. And the INTJ draws out the amazing, brave lion, hidden deep within the typically gentle, ISFP.

Oh, I need to hear that, due to the war in my country (Ukraine) I was put in a leadership position, and I wasn't sure I can fulfill the duties correct, as I usually hate commanding and screaming and talking to much, however I found out that even without a lot of talking we can be a pretty solid leaders.

This quote right here is an eye opener. I always thought I'm being rash with my decisions. I have been contemplating about my recent decision to get other job, a sideline which is very different than my profession. Nathan is true when he said that ISFPs decide on what's true for us. Not some system. But a sense of me in my decision and profession.
I'm just surrounded with people who take time on choosing what's best. But we, ISFPs, we choose and make em right. Make it work for us.
I score so highly for Ni, and subsequently Fi and Se, but Ive come to learn that ISFP fits me so much better. Intuitive bias is real. It was hard for me to accept being a sensor because I am very curious, knowledgeable and witty. But Ive never quite gotten along with people who I now know to be intuitives, because they always want to talk about abstract things, and I always ask, but whats the point? I can handle abstract concepts, but I really care about making a real difference in the world, while my INTP friend just wants to explore ideas more than anything else. It also explains why, that despite me loving literature, I don’t love it in the traditionally academic sense. I love stories about adventures and living in the physical world, and obviously emotional depth in characters too. But I sometimes struggle being interested in traditonal literature classes because most of the novels being explored in them, are all just about the characters living in their mundane lives and having conversations. Ive learned I need action and excitement in my books!

As an ISFP (or IXFP?) I really sympathise with what you said about school or uninteressting work. When all options are dull its hard to choose. The environment itself makes us boored and minimum effort, art is the only area where one could be a bit more creative and independent so they think we are artists when its actually the teaching style that is not suitible for us. But thats what others see. Good point. For me it would be better if they could explain the subjects more related to the people who came up with them and the contexts in which they were used. More cronologically and also talking about the sources. Then it would make more sense in a way. Now they just dump random information on students no connections. Not to mention the vast political agenda imposed on the students. We see through all that bs.

Funny that you mention the intullectual part. For over 3 years I thought I was an INTJ and have recently discovered that I’m an ISFP. Like you said it had to do with the test bias, plus me noticing that part in myself. However I always felt like my Fi was very strong, and Te to wean for an INTJ, and can see why now 😂.
Thank you for making ISFP videos. I need to understand myself better. I need to try to make my weird adventurous nature work for me somehow. I'm a creative person but I struggle to make a living in a way that is meaningful for me.

Pele Also, for non-football (soccer players in the 1970's or so, or for women) Lola Falana. They were both the embodiment of toughness, grit and elegance when moving in their chosen ways.
ISFPs are very symbolic and intuitive sensors (if that makes sense). ISFPs are not paper-thin or 2 dimensional people, they are deeper, intelligent and talented individuals.

This type has always intrigued me, to my view, one of the most interesting fictional ISFPs (according to personality database, not confirmed) might be Nikolai Stravoguin from Dostoevsky's Demons. He totally fits what you mentions about leadership, as Pyotr Verkhovensky (ENTJ?) is admirative of him and wants him to take the role of a leader for their revolutionnary society despite Stravoguin's lack of interest. Fun fact I've read somewhere, he is the one fictional character Jordan Peterson would want to have a dinner with.

thanks for posting about isfps nathan! idk if it was a conscious choice from you (probably yes) but I really liked the colors for this video. I can edit color nuances for a whole day on Power Point to make them just right, hehe. I never mistyped as INTJ, rather at first it was INFP ofc and then INTP actually. It was probably my insecurity that I didn't feel intelligent enough or my ASD that made me resonate more with INTP descriptions. I also saw Ti as superior and didn't want to "just have" Fi. But anyway, I think I understand what you mean with INTJ comparison. I'm curious, if you have any ISFP friends, how do you manage (as an INTP) to get along with Fi dom and what do you appreciate most of your ISFPs?

Lol I always thought I was an INFP, and have tested that way, but I have also tested as ISFP. I definitely don’t wear my heart on my sleeve as INFPs are described as doing. And many descriptions of INFP I don’t totally click with. This description of ISFP totally applies to me far more than INFP. I feel seen! Lol.
I did a about 3 tests, first one said I was an ISTP, the N/S was 50/50. The 2nd one I did was an ISFP, which I definitely resonate with, the N/S ratio was still very close, but more S. The third one confirmed that I was an ISFP. I do come across as more science-y than arty, but I'm OK with that. I'm not at all sporty, not particularly interested in it actually.
As an isfp who was a team leader for quite a few years, i know that someone saw something in me to put me in that role. It was intimidating at first but i always received good feedback for being pleasant, fair and working as hard as everyone under me. I did get burned out because i was outnumbered by about 100 to 1 during our busy season and was exhausted by the amount of questions i had to answer on a daily basis and i did absorb some of the drama. I have never been labeled as a drama queen.. i got through most of school without speaking😆 People say im the opposite of a drama queen but as i'm aging, i definitely have become more sassy and vocal around those i know well😂 I was an A/B student who didn't love school but probably did best in English. In college i did well in statistics because i knew i had to keep up with it so i did not procrastinate on math homework. When watching movies or studying history, i like to start from the beginning in a linear fashion and i zoned out too much in school to keep up with it because i was always sleepy from staying up late but was excellent at knowing what to study for on exams so i always passed. I didn't really know how much i loved being creative til after college when i tapped into that more. I enjoy writing song lyrics, working out to my favorite tunes, fashion and outfits were always fun for me, i love looking at art and being creative with it but i am not an artist like Picasso or someone who does finely detailed pencil drawings. I just really enjoy color! It excites me to decorate the house and im better at starting creative projects than finishing all of them sometimes😊 My husband says i'm a good people reader. I just really love life. My values are very important but sometimes i do prefer to (music ref) have my church in a chevy like Jordan Davis because of the free spirit nature. Thanks for being so knowledgeable on the isfp. I enjoyed it tremendously!!
Maybe I'm comparing the movie watching to my enfp hubby who can pick up in the middle of shows, movies but I have to rewind it if I missed a few words and cannot talk or text through a movie like our friend and act like I know what's happening😂
Yes I seem to utilize Ni as much as Se which confused me at first. I think that my difficult past experiences helped strengthen it.

wow..as an isfp who's searching for a more intuitive look at myself, I've never heard anyone give the true full-on picture of who is an isfp. Have tested as an infp, but now an isfp.. as I'm coming into my own. I believe it's because of experiencing extreme trauma as an adult and having to bury my true self.. To be honest i just got the time to "research" about ISFP because I'm actually an ISFJ. Sometime ago I took the test and it changed to ISFP. Honestly it made me completely baffled. But on the other side, I finally can see ISFP as it is. I personally still think that maybe I was in an unstable condition when I took the test, but as I learned more about ISFP, I think I just learned about the other side of myself that I have never got to explore and dig. So I just wanted to say thank you for making many of the comprehensive videos on ISFP among the internet where I haven't really find many.
Check out the cognitive functions, ISFP and ISFJ are the opposite of each other. I am ISFP and ISFJ is the feeler I often get along with worst.
So it takes ISFP Nelson to defeat "THE" ENTJ stereotype of Napoleon himself? An ISFP out ENTJ'd an ENTJ. Suppose the math would work the other way;)
As for the "artist" moniker that gets overused so often. I like to shadow it to an ISTP "technician" or "mechanic." Both ISPs take an opposite approach to that Se "mastery" in the aux. ISTP through stringently scientific and replicable Ti. ISFP through erratically artistic and ever unique Fi.
@@janeofthejungle4 Well, I was alluding to the Fi/Se/Ni/Te of ISFP and the Te/Ni/Se/Fi of ENTJ (Gammas for life... I swear if someone chimes in that Socionics is not "exactly" MBTI... I will just laugh. MBTI is not exactly MBTI:)
BUT... I just HAD to look into the battle of Trafalgar. What do you know!?! As an ENTJ "brain," Napoleon wasn't even there. Villeneuve, one of his admirals was. Nelson was there, did some risky and careless things, got mortally wounded and held off from dying until hearing that the battle was won. An ISFP would lead from the front, like John Snow at the Battle of the Bastards (Fiction is reality, people!) Actually, I'd muse that ISFPs don't seem to "lead" as much as they just DO, and people choose to follow. (ENTJs push / marshal from the rear;) Generalization on my part.
Question: Why would it be SUPER difficult emotionally for the ISFP to do that? When Fi/Ni finds a worthwhile reason... not much is gonna stop their Se/Te.

Fi lead "should" start actions from their Fi. Emotions, values, "vibes," or whatever you want to call it would be an apt descriptor. I have noticed that you seem to mention them or really anyone feeling bad and being in "pain." Is that an important metric for you? If anything I see my own emotions / urges / values as a prime motivator that my Se expresses. So, my actions are "authentic." But, as Fi is lead, that would have a broad scope of what authenticity may mean to me. Especially because Se is SO contextual. Broad authenticity in the moment depending on the moment.
I've been into typology for a bit. As for history, I just Googled the battle and corroborated some sources. Also, to back up the theory (which one should be aware of, otherwise, how would they know what they are tracking in the real?) or theories of the systems, observational / real world / practical knowledge is a must. More important than the theory after some point, IMO. With your son being 20, you will see him develop the remainder of his functions as he grows. When they get challenged, they should step up and try exerting themselves. Having an ENTJ in the family would help. A lot. One of the most rewarding, if shorter relationships I had was with an ENTJ.
As for "defeating" others. This is where I would say context matters. Mortal combat, Chutes and ladders, Poetry, or... well, you get the idea. ISFP does have that nice Fi/Ni axis. The Fi is well versed in understanding its own nuances, so therefore it is well aware that others have them as well. The Ni, even if in the 3rd slot allows for a decent enough perspective shift towards the other person. The two combined would find a "weakness" that the Se/Te can strike at if so inclined.
@@janeofthejungle4 Ha, that is cool. I remember being in the phase of trying to type anyone and everyone by their writing style. There are perks to that, and one that is into typology would go there as they progress. However, something to remember, you have several examples of my writing style. Is that the only way I write? Unknown. That very important IRL component is missing.
Interesting for me to note that a past me would have probably fired back. Enneagram Tritype/ Trifix integration seems to have done wonders. Yay me.
So, yes, I am sure. It has been a 7 year journey so far. Five years to get and start understanding my "type." Are you going off of feels and vibes alone or are you tracking functions as well? Do you reference any specific systems or models?
@@janeofthejungle4 So, how do you determine a person's type? What metrics are you using? Meaning, how do you differentiate what makes an ESTJ and ESTJ from an ENTJ, or ISTJ? Not so much what a person seems to be as much as where are you getting the standard of type / archetype in general? It seems that you are not particularly concerned with the cognitive functions which are, in essence, the core language used to describe the basics of this system. The Lego pieces which are assembled in specific ways that make up a "type."
Also, IF I were to go off of what you wrote, I would notice a trend where you seem to *heavily* reference your own experiences. You reference what other singular (specific, sensory) people in your life are and how your experience with them has assisted you in understanding a type, and then also seem to place a decent amount of credence in how they test. That would lean towards S over N. But then, as I don't know you in the real it is only a hint, which could be very false. Just food for thought and the incompleteness of using one set of data points such as writing style and text as a metric to determine type, especially without interaction seeking to clarify what one meant in their writing.
Also, there are many tests out there, even the basic MBTI test is only phase one and phase two has the test taker go over the test with an actual practitioner. Mistypes / faulty results are pretty much a given in the community as there is a lot of misunderstanding of what the questions are asking and what a person interprets the question to mean and THEN how it applies to them. The basis of this is that each person cannot change their perception / judgment outside of their first two functions. I am not saying one is unable to "use" their other functions. I am saying that on a fundamental level every type's own reality originates from their top two functions then can flow into the rest. THAT is what the test is supposed to test for. But most times, it works backwards from the four letter code, trying to crudely reverse engineer an elegant design.
Then we take a person's level of development, emotional and psychological well-being, and however many other factors and things get... messy.

Nowadays i am really typing myself as a thinking type because I have a fear that if I dont use my head much i will be making some mistakes and would really regret later.
I would definitely vote for ISFPs for leaders. Although I have a lot in common with them, they're far more chill than I am, more devoted to fostering a positive and relaxed atmosphere, better looking, more athletic, and, strangely, less stubborn. They have a laissez-faire attitude that people really appreciate coming from their leaders. (A batgirl knows she has a heart of darkness.🦇🖤🦇)
Lol, I'm all about that fire-y passion lol.. But really, I feel like I have leadership qualities, but I just don't know how to use it. Men tend to get pissy with me because they say I'm bossy, while my boss is like, "Holy F, what she's asking is not that serious." So I have this issue where, when I ask something to be done, it's a toss up if it gets done or not.
I seem to be able to function independently however with minimal direction and a good sense of what to do in certain situations. I've just been noted by others to be complicated in my processes, but I do it to get some of the best data I can for later reporting and retrieval.

When I was at university doing a chemistry experiment with a partner, I liked to take the back seat. The moment I realised that the other person was doing things the wrong way I would just take over, almost like I shoved her out of the way without actually shoving her out of the way. I don't particularly like taking charge, but I will when it becomes clear that I have to.

Is it normal or ethical for an ISFP to emphasize with someone but still have no value for them? I feel like that about people very often and it's not like because i hate people or anything like that, but it's more like a "I don't care" behavior. if I meet someone that I share no values with or find slightly annoying i will still feel bad for them of course in case anything bad happens but like, I won't care? i don't really know how to describe it I'm sorry
and for clarification, I'm not absolutely sure if I'm an ISFP or not but considering how much time I spent trying to figure out my type and getting typed as many many things, ISFP sounds right for me, I was very artistic when I was a kid and I would draw non stop and even participate in role playing games creating characters for me AND other people, I feel like i unconsciously neglected that artistic part of me because growing up I had to leave that aside to spend more time studying even tho I didn't need to, my grades were always great and I was (still am) pretty smart, but I sometimes feel like I'm not as smart as I think, I just get good grades because I find everything too easy, but I don't know

I know one ISFP I like. She is warm and caring, she has strong sense of beauty and she is kind of hippie/controversial (which makes her looking like a weirdo sometimes). However, generally I don't have a large sympathy towards this type. ISFPs and ESFPs seem to be sometimes... fake. As if they behave on their whim of moment, not on strong beliefs. As if they didn't care or made up their justifications. I see here lack of Ti, lack of integrity. I wouldn't stand strong relation with such person and one of my close relatives was hurt by such person which makes me even more biased.
