- This is a recording from 1994. Mark Sandman, who played the 2-string bass, was the frontman of this band. His dark voice and special slide on the bass guitar gives these band a sound that has never been reproduced as far as I know. Sadly Mark Sandman died in july 1999 on stage playing live in Italy.
Listening to Les Claypool telling Geddy Lee about Morphine and the 2 string bass played using a slide is why I’m here at this moment
Same here!
When you're gifted with that voice, you don't need a polyphonic instrument in the band. Simply genial! ❤️💥
His voice was like silk....beautiful, soft silk with leather embellishments! Love it
Nice description
@egobeaver exactly
Love the Sandman 🖤🇩🇪💪
Some bands are great. Others are amazing. Several rock. Morphine is cool. Epitome of cool.
R.i.p Mark Sandman
So glad i found this
What a great sound! A slide on a bass guitar? TOO cool a sound!
This band was cool as fuck
Miss this mans low sounds ♥️
That voice is magic. Probably the most cool I ever heard
You should check out Sean Rose’s music.
Some of 2000's-2010's bands sounds like this. The most part of this baritone sound is bass, harmony and incredibly deep voice. Also distorted vocals still in use. But, real voice without autotune and a lot of effects sounds way better.
Masterpiece.
I remember hearing this in Sydney on the radio and him giving an interview on JJJ. A really cool guy who loved music.
R.I.P. Gone too soon.
this guy is magic
Am I off or does this feel kind of like…post-psychobilly? Not directly, but in the mix of rock, blues, rockabilly, and post-punk instead of punk elements?
Very interesting to see that lineage was explored further.
Beautiful.
Sweet jam love that sexy Sax 🖤✌️
What genre of music is this?
Most say dying is a tragedy. Sandman passed doing what he loved‼️ Not many can claim that...
SUUUUBELE RAUL !!!
ethereal.
This is great
Ух, случайно купил кассету в 95-м году, на тот момент жил в жопе мира, как она там оказалась...
You don't need a guitar... and furthermore, you don't need all the strings of your bass.
Only 100 likes? I have faith no more.
It has quarter million views on the other upload
that bass
I'm looking for an excuse to play more than one Morphine song today. I don't guess I need one.
Cool
2 strings no more
to those who say jaco only needed 4 strings I say mark needed only 2
Gotta be an influence of a band I used to listen to called Tony C and the Truth. They ripped off this riff for a tune called 'Medusa.' Undoubtedly.
Actually this song was released in 1993, and Medusa wasn't released until 2003. So, it can't be ripped off. Or are u saying this song inspired Tony Cs song Medusa?
@@cynthiarodriguez1019 yes - Tony C ripped this off.
@@pope400 Oh, ok.
Listened to morphine since I was a kid and I knew he used a 2 string slide
I wonder if he can play a full 4 strung bass? 🤔
What is he playing there 5ths?
5ths, 3rds. You can do all sorts of scales with just two strings. No chords obviously, but plenty of fun there.
He never felt the need for four when he could do it with two.
Sandman was actually a pretty skilled player. He could play a full bass and guitar as well. He limited his strings in Morphine because he wanted to get a dirtier, bluesier sound.
