I unabashedly love this movie. All of George's criticisms are fair, but they don't detract from the movie for me. Perfect late-night UHF viewing for a 90's teen. "And now back to LOGAN'S RUN, staring Farrah Fawcett" haha.

Capitalizing on that Farrah Fawcett cameo for sure! Hey, Bob- I like the movie too, sorry I was such a stickler- the aesthetics and vibe and nostalgic value of the movie are right on.

It didn't look dated or corny to a lot of us back then. Really fun and, since I hadn't heard of the novel, it was pretty fun. I even liked the comic series at the time. Actually expected it to be a bigger hit, on a kids level, but up yeah a lot no parent would've wanted us to see. The TV series adjusted that, though also (since just a TV budget) lost scale and impact, and was something we thought was going to be the next big franchise but that never came through too. Oh well, still fun times. Lol, and the easiest cosplay possible. Black pants and shirt with a strip/patch of gray.

    1. In the book the death clock goes at 21, but they couldn't find enough actors.
    2. GOOF: No way would Logan close that hatch with that much water going through it.
    3. Peter Ustinov improvised much of his dialogue.
    4. Jenny Agutter played in "American Werewolf in London."
    5. The last woman touching the old man's face. 😍🥰😋
    6. "Genesis II" has awesome miniature effects.

The wonderful and lovely Ms. Agutter is a treasure, her performances in the many films she’s starred (or been featured)in are memorable and impressive.

This film, like Soylent Green which was released 3 years prior, has overpopulation as its backdrop problem; the world could not sustain itself at the crazy rate of birth compared to the rate of death, and society as we know it clearly collapsed. These mega-cities were born, all the while with the knowledge that it was overpopulation that had ended society before, so they really did not want to see that happen again - hence they created the Carousel to assure population and resources would be controlled. Everything that happens in the film revolves around this futuristic ideal of pop control, which was clearly a real fear in the 60s and 70s.

Right- good point. Maybe I was being a stickler, this would have made more sense in the context of its time maybe.

Overpopulation was a huge fear in the 70s due a bestseller called The Population Bomb by Paul Ehrlich. Basically an updated version of Malthus’ ideas of exponential population growth vs linear increase in food supply.

A little perspective here : Summer 1975 was JAWS SUMMER. 1977 was STAR WARS SUMMER. 1978 was GREASE SUMMER . 1979 was ALIEN SUMMER / (Dawn of the Dead opened in the Spring but was still playing in the summer) . Summer 1976 was not really dominated by one colossal hit. The Omen was probably the biggest hit ? Logan's Run was another - as well as Mel Brooks Silent Movie. I saw all there of them in the theater. Charlie's Angels debuted FALL 1976 so they rushed out these posters of "Farrah Fawcett as Holly in Logan's Run" in all the mall poster shops (Spencer's Gifts).

I never understood why this film had at most a PG cerification. Nudity, an orgy scene, cold blooded murder, etc.

I think the only problem I have with this critique is the whole "Star Wars" thing.
Star Wars isn't Science Fiction. Star Wars isn't scientific at all. It's just fiction.
Logans Run is about us, about humans, about science fact pushed to a limit.
    Thats Science Fiction.
The so called optimism of Star Wars isn't new either. It's a call back to Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon.
Science Fiction is pretty much 99% a look at what we might end up being.. Based on science..
    It's always dark.

Yeah I appreciate that but I think you’d have to acknowledge that despite being technically a “fantasy” film Star Wars had a profound impact on the kind of Science Fiction films that were made in its immediate aftermath. Speculative sci-fi of the Rod Serling variety was really put on the back burner in exchange for space opera style movies and films that aped its used future aesthetic like Alien or Outland.

Jiminy Christmas, this film is so dated, it's awful. And that's from someone who saw this in theaters at age 10 with my dad. I should love this film out of pure family nostalgia alone but it's just so bad, man. You, on the other hand, make good content and run a good channel. Thanks for the work you do for us:)

Vince gets ir... the other guy? He really needs to learn a bit about science fiction. I would recommend the works of Matheson & Heinlien. Maybe even flip through (dare I say actually READ) the original novel by Nolan & Johnson before you talk shit you clearly don't understand.
Perhaps you should engage In proper research before you embarrass yourself again. You have alienated one (admittedly small) fan base. Try not to do it again. 🖖
