Yeah, that's pretty much how all my days on the river looks like so far as a rookie. It is good to see that even the most savvy fishermen can have rough days. But what a great place to have one! I really enjoy your videos, especially the ones on casting techniques. I am still waiting for that A-HA moment to come when I can say: " I think I get it now!"
FFD, sitting here grumpy and thanking you for the LOL when "SKUNKED" popped onto the screen. Thanks. p.s. I called the trout and told them you were coming, so that's why they stayed hidden from you . Seriously, this time of year is difficult when flows are high; the trout hang on the bottom pissed off from eating dirt. ☮ from Idaho.
Thanks for sharing not only the good days but the bad ones too. We’ve all had them. Mine was in Iowa last weekend when the drag in my reel crapped out on me, the reel setting rings on my rod froze on me so l couldn’t even rig up. It was a cold and windy weekend and the fish were not biting anyway. Then to add insult to injury on the day I had to home the sun came out and the weather warmed up. Then the reel I thought I had fixed crapped out again. After spending nearly an hour trying to fix it I gave up. I went ahead and rigged up my by back up my reel to my back up rod. I only had an hour to fish I but was able to catch some small 8” rainbows which ended up saving the drip.
Hi Dan, Could you or would you *please* do a video or at least provide your thoughts on the whole "stretching fly line" issue!? I just re-spooled three reels (some been on there a season or 5) and the kinks and curls on what I thought were "decent" lines ... i.e. $100+... oh my goodness... I stretched all three...so hopefully I see some improvements in fishing and casting next few trips out! haha Thanks and be well!!
love this video, i mean are sure you weren't recording my fly fishing excursion into the woods. Just great being out there in a quiet place all to yourself... "does a flyfisherman make swearing noise in the woods when no one else is around?" Or just take a puff of the cigar to wash all those blues away.
looking cold with the snow. Guessing you mostly fish watersheds in SW WA probably within an hour driving radius of Vancouver. Am I close? I'm out of the Seattle area so typically hit the streams within an hour of the house in around I 90. Unless a destination trip of course. Have fun!
Thanks Dan! I’ve heard many times..You learn more Not catching fish than you do on Good catching days. Maybe so..that means I’ve earned a College degree about fishing. 😂 Have a great one and best wishes! 👍👌🎣
It is a little known fact that streamside vegetation suffers from Iron deficiency. Trees and shrubs of all sorts actively pursue flies for the iron in the hook.
I got skunked 2 times this week myself. Tomorrow is another day. Maybe the big one is coming. I have a gambling addicted buddy who claims this every morning at the gas station with scratch offs. Lolol 😂
That‘s the beauty of fishing. Every day is different. The joy will be much greater after such a bad day😊
Absolutely
It is comforting to know that I am not the only one who goes through days like this when nothing seems to go right at all.
It definitely happens - I felt it was important to share the not so great days too, because that is real life stuff. Thanks for watching!
Getting skunked is part of. Beginners especially need to see videos like this. As for us seasoned veterans...we do too!
So true!

You’ll get there - took me a while as well

It was a rough two days for sure - I want to keep it 'real' though...because it happens a ton!

Happens to all of us for sure - thanks for sharing!

Well said Ryan!

I was in Eastern OR on the first river and Idaho the last (high elevation). I love exploring the entire PNW :))
That is my average day fishing. Still love it.
It was super fun exploring some new water (second river)...next time, I'll put one in the net :))

Lol - exactly, I’m there with you too! Cheers!
That's how my day was yesterday. I only hooked one large rainbow and he immediately ran under a log and broke my line.
It can be tough some days for sure - glad to hear you at least felt a fish!
Been there done that and it’s still the best
Totally

Well, I helped those trees with a few on this day!
i love your vids
Thanks!

Thanks for great scenery video, but watching you not catch fish might not be the best format…
Just trying to be real - it happens from time to time
