Very informative video! I bought my E93 this year and experienced roof leaking due to heavy rains. I did lots of research on the internet for possible reasons and solutions, but this video summarizes everything I have found so far. Thank you for this good guidance video for E93 owners! 😊
Leaks on convertible is always about luck. Check before you buy, make sure its dry every where roof connections are and after clean and lubricate it regularly. About wind, make sure that car is coming with wind shield its very important and quiet expensive. With it on Im completely enjoying when doing 80/90 miles.
I’ve had my e93, 322 L diesel, 10 years this March and it still puts a smile on my face with the roof down.,, still get plenty of looks in my opinion, the better shape than the four series doesn’t miss doesn’t burn oil doesn’t ,drip oil on the drive ,,getting 38 the gallon. Why would I want a new car and getting debt for 30 grand, think about it.
Its good cars, just dont stress too much if after some heavy rains you will get some water drops inside. In UK we sometimes have rain from every possible angle and it still can cause leaks from time to time. Depending on rain/wind and car location ( I live in very hilly area)
@@MarruMotors I have leaking on a driver side ( left) because of the rubber gasket that is unglued at that area. Will make some repairs with butil tape.
Just bought one of these. Had the exact problem you have, few drops behind driver next to window, issue solved. Very very good video with lots of info, keep it up!
Beware, the e93 roof parts are not being produced anymore and the exterior roof trim top pieces WILL 100% break due to plastic composition...they will keep breaking multiple times over the life of the car and you cannot repair them. They were cheap when they existed but now you may have to pay over $400 for a single thin strip of plastic trim to cover the joints on the roof. You have been warned.
1000% DO NOT RUN THROUGH A AUTOMATIC WASH . fibers will catch a piece and that's all she wrote. my wife LOVES her 2010 n54 manual e93 and she does not want to let it go. heavy maintenance for me labor wise and $$ for her but she has to have it. So I live with anxiety waiting for those pieces to break....... LUBE EVERYTHING! LOL EVERY 6 MONTHS

Nice, hope you will enjoy it. To be honest with you, haven’t touched electronic part because its working fine and haven’t heard bad feedbacks from anyone. I remember that e60 series had some issues from time to time but e9x seems to be alright. I only planning to replace battery because my is some cheap brand. BTW ground cable sometimes can cause problems with engine start so Im planning to check them and replace if they will be greenish.
@@wtfskitzo7783 yes big one is walnut blast. If you cannot verify that it was done recently. Do it. You do not need to during the coolant as some UA-cam videos suggest. I was able to slip out the fan and then turn the crank manually. Spray brake clean into valve area to make sure valves are closed. Pull spark plugs so it's easier to turn over. You will need a long pick set ($15 Amazon ) to get around back side of valves. Use FINE walnut not coarse. Take your time. Also upgrade the PCV I used the ECS tuning metal one with a new vc vent hose. Also even if you don't tune your car buy the mhd and use a k-dcan cable not Bluetooth adapter. It drops data packets and takes longer. Wired is best. Mhd logs. But I use Bimmer geeks protools to code. Should be set after that.
We have an 07 E93 325i. Roof started playing up a little and had it diagnosed. It came up with a fault code on the screen locking mechanism and the dealer thinks I have sprayed grease on the micro switches so as your video shows, don't go mad...
@@MarruMotors yes but a car is meant to be driven. Actually in fact I had 3. First one when I was young it was 325CI manual with manual roof. Was the greatest and never stoped working and no issue. Once they got into automation and motors shit, they became a headache after the last 2 I quit and never again.
Very nicely done! I do my seals religiously with nextzett gummi pflege … I’ve used it on Audis, bmw’s and Japanese cars. Keeps the creaking down as well, when I hear door or a creak over a bump, it’s time to apply it again
Is there a special way to keep the convertible top open during the cleaning and silcone process? Im concerned to not have the top open at the correct spot and the weight of the top will become an issue. Also so glad you noted how to check the fluid pump. I had no idea of that part or access location. Your tips saved me a bundle $ Thank You from the USA
Thank you for a feedback. I haven’t found any info about specific service position for the roof. Everyone around the world doing same way by stopping it half way. Few guys left it for few days like that, without any damage. But still Im trying to do it quickly to avoid any unnecessary pressure. Never had any issues.

As usual, I watched this today AFTER my E93 convertible roof failed. It's now stuck mid-position and neither retracts fully or pulls back into place. I get a "Roof movement impaired" message.
@@MarruMotors No - it's not budging at all no matter how hard I pull on the roof to try and get it to close. And I'm not able to get the trunk open to reach the pump and release pressure. Will need to take it down to a local shop to at least pop the trunk and get the roof to fully close.
@@MarruMotors After leaving it overnight, I tried to retract the roof again, and this time, it retracted into trunk without a problem, so that's much better than being stuck, especially 1 hour from the nearest big city shop/dealer. But I don't dare to raise the roof back because that's when it becames stuck with "Roof movement impaired". I'm planning on driving it open-top 1 hour to the large shop/dealer to do a proper diagnostic. Maybe its a faulty sensor, maybe not enough fluid in hydraulic pump, we'll see.

I've had water in my battery bay recently (all drained out now) and I'm going to be taking a special look at the drain holes in the boot seal. How come you didn't mention them?

Probably you can because all connections are dry and graphite lubricant won’t be washed. And to be honest those connections stay lubricated long time. I checked on my and they still oiled from last year

don't forget about the : sloshing water problem in the rear - i have this problem and may cost me around 1000euro to fix it. Edit: All e93 users are advised to drill a 10mm hole -in order for the water to drain - and avoid any problems

It drips down from the join between the rear window section and the rear roof section, and then drips on to the window ledge in the back, very near the bottom corner of the rear window. It pools if it rains heavy (which is a lot as I live in the north of England in Northumberland) and drips down the side of the rear seats

I have E93 and is maintance nightmare ,even i use it as weekend car there is alwalys sometning to spend money and time to fix,when you fix something after few days a new problem ,now i have rolover controler problem thas is so annoying (it blink you in eye and you cant even see the time or temperature becase warning covers it) ,it started after installing new 12V battery ,we tried everything ,check everything ,even spend lot off money on new ROC module but its still there.BMWs are just pure crap,i have much older Peugeot 206 CC and is 99% trouble free while BMW is just so annoying.This is for sure my last BMW but i will keep just to remind my self how crap they are build and engined ,and people still spend tons off money buying them
I can tell same about Audi. Its not about Brand of the car. That problems usually have two reasons: 1) Pure previous maintenance / history 2) Bad luck. I completely understand you because had that few times, but believe its not because of BMW.
@@MarruMotors i mainted it much more then my daily driver which i put 5 times more miles then BMW (Opel Insignia sport tourer) ,bad luck does not change idiotic engineering ,like curent problem is rolover controler module,google it and you will find tons off people with same problem ,module goes bad when you put NEW BATTERY ,mine went out few days after new battery just randomly in the middle off drive, its pain the ass to remove it new is like 500 euros and hard to find becase many people has same problem ,some even every few years ,you cant reset error with any tools and is totaly annoying ,3 lights blink on dashboard ,you cant even see time and temperature on dashboard and it even cover whole Idrive screen ,like why on earth so annoying
I told previous maintenance. Sometimes if car been abused before to hard or have some hidden faults it becomes a nightmare to put everything back together. I haven’t heard about that module but on Ebay Uk I can see them for fairly small money.
@@MarruMotors Well i like to drive it,when everything work its awsome and still looks awsome , i just bought digital dashboard from China ,now car look 10 years younger and i dont have to look at that ROC error in my eyes .But if you have module regularly go (that cost 500 euro new) just because you install new battery and like almost every E93 had to fight it that is some very stupid engineering or they just want your money to sell you overpriced stuff ,like that module probably cost 20 euro to build. That on E-bay are used,they will die in blink off the eye

We just bought a used 2011 328I E93 and this provides good informaiton to keep up the regular mainteance. Thank you.
Check the drain holes under the rear windows too. They get clocked as well and can fill up with water. This can kill the rear window regulators.

Hmm never seen any switches around hinges🤔 but anyway thanks for advice, will have a look next time.
I have done the same thing to mine. I finally got the recall work done after waiting for 2 years.
Recall for roof? Or something else?
The recall was for the Intake, & Exhaust camshaft gear bolt heads broke off.

Why the silicone? Normal vaseline will do the trick as well. Cheaper and easier to apply.

I wish I'd never bought a e93. All my Z4's I've owned are so much more better to drive.

Z4 very nice and underrated car with very high body roll stiffness.
I nearly bought an E93 until I found out it was 200kg heavier than an E92 and the insurance was much more.
I haven’t noticed about insurance but weight yes +200kg and body stiffness is lower. But to be honest its make sense only for lap records on track.

Get a Z4 much it's more fun to drive and MPG is good for performance you get. 0-60 in 5 seconds. Better handling car.
