God gave me this verse when I became a Christian, I knew He was saying I will get you through this difficulty, trust me. I learnt the context early on & it added so much depth with Him. Will always be my verse. God is faithful, He is in control, let him change the desires of your heart to His as we Seek His Kingdom first.

If you're reading scripture and in the spirit, God speaks to you, then I believe it could be applied personally. Gods word is living and he can use his word to teach you, to convict you and yes even make promises to you. We should always read the word with context but never be quick to ignore the Holy spirit when He is speaking to us. This verse allows us to remember God's sovereignty over our lives even through trials and tribulations.
I would argue that it is "written to you." We need to understand the verse in context, yes! But the entire Bible is written for us to get something from it.

I agree with you and I love your explanation which comes accross to me at least, pretty clear in the word. I just want to add that all of Gods promises are meant to speak to us today in a very personal way and often Holy Spirit ministers to us as He sees necessary depending on our situation and need. Gods’ word is alive and not limited by man’s understanding.
Before we ever existed God knew we would be on this earth and we all have a purpose each and everyone of us. So he has plans for us all and Gods plan is a good and a better plan. We just need to abide in him to live in his plan for our lives! And the scripture will still apply.

Your wrong, it is a personal message; God speaks to all his creation with one mouth. He does know what he has planned and it is as he says for every single person who comes to him. Those who do not come to him do not get to share in what he has prepared for those who come, and God will never turn away anyone who comes, it's as simple as that.

I got the inspiration this morning to hold on to that verse. It all began when I had to clean a public toilet before I took a bath. It had really been messed up by the school children I teach. I share a dormitory block with them because the school cannot afford decent housing for all the staff. I was haunted by the decision I took to teach in this badly disadvantaged region of Uganda- Karamoja! But then I get comforted by the thought that being a Christian isn't easy. It sometimes involving cleaning a mess you have no idea who put it there. The Jeremiah verse 29:11 comes to mind that this difficult situation will not last for ever! However, I had not thought about the original context of the message and how more appropriate it should be to my present situation. Now I know it may take longer but God has a plan!!!! To me, it ties into what you said that the Israel's bondage could be symbolic of someone's life issue that they are facing. Thus, the same God that delivers a nation still delivers us. It was nice to review more of the historical background to the text because I agree we should read the entire book for a fuller and deeper understanding. I also believe that along with hope, God brings us victory according to our faith.

It still applies to us (believers) today as we live in this world in which Satan lives and is even referred to as the god” of this world. This is not our home, and God is still promising us individually and collectively and that even in this world we will have tribulations, but He is the way, he overcame it and in His son we have victory and we reign, He came to give us life and life more abundantly with Him, and we will do even greater things on this earth. We can look at the disciples in the New Testament and see they were blessed collectively and individually. Respectfully
This verse reminds us that we’re human. We will have troubles, and yet God wants us to believe that there’s still hope. And there is. Therefor it may not be aimed directly at us personally, but we should learn from this to remind ourselves there’s always hope.

I dove deep into this verse and chapter after asking GOD for a passage to help me with what I was/am going through. I kept asking every week or change in situation, and HE, at one point, kept giving me this verse week after week. Then I finally asked HIM why and what I was missing. Taking it back to the original language. Plans is not the actually translation, and should be the word thoughts (It actually fits better go figure). However, in context of the whole chapter. I have come to find out that I was getting the "I'm doing this for your own good talk". We like to think GOD wouldn't do anything that would seem to hurt us, however, that's not the case. He says HE caused them to be taken captive. However, HE is saying that whatever HE does, HE does for our own good. For us to make it to the expected end. There was a reason HE caused them to be captured and eventually call back upon HIM. Jeremiah 29:12 "Then you shall call upon me......"
I believe that the mystery and miracle of Scripture is that it has both a historical context AND a personal meaning.. . that is what makes it Scripture vs just an interesting ancient document.

But I believe with growth in relationship with God I have begun to understand this as is not a direct message for me but as you illustrated a parallel for the message he has for me. Sometimes suffering stays but I will get through it that is what that verse means not that it’s going to be quickly not that we won’t ever have suffering but that we will get through it and there will be something better at the end but that something better just might be Heaven

It is not a verse of "granting wishes" but rather a reminder (to me and to you) that God will always give us what we need and He has no intent to hurt us as long as we are faithful. He will never take away the free will that often leads us into temptation and sin, but If we are faithful he will never harm us. Who in their right mind reads two lines and doesn't delve deeper? The Bible was written to teach us, not about "me" or "you" - it was a generality of teachings to show God's faithful how to live the right way.

Thank you so much for this video. My alcoholic daughter gave me a framed art piece of this verse and put it on the wall above my desk. My first response was to think of it as meant for the individual but as I gained a greater knowledge of the trials and tribulations of Israel and its apostasy, I began to slowly question it as I realized Jeremiah was a prophet and this verse was meant for the entire nation of Israel. The Lord certainly did fulfill that verse over and over again in the history of Israel.
My pastor told me the same thing. He has a PhD in theology and a brilliant mind and I have trusted his teaching for over 20 years. Even after he retired he's still my go-to-guy when I don't understand something. But on this verse, I have to disagree. The entire OT was written for Israel so if we take this one verse and say it doesn't apply to all of God's people, then the entire OT is irrelevant to those of us saved by grace through faith in Jesus. What many people may take out of context is the use of prosper in many translations. But the Hebrew word is actually shalom, or peace. God promises to provide for His children, He does not intend to harm us, and He alone gives us hope, purpose and peace. Like every Word of Scripture, this verse is applicable to all believers. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ❣

Good job. So many people have the idea that the Bible was written for them personally, and that every promise made to anyone if theirs to claim. Knowing the recipients of the messages is a vital part of the context.
We’re all encountered by leader who stirs us to move ahead someone who believes we can do the task He has given and who will be with us all the way. God is that kind of leader. He knows the future and His plans for us are good and full of hope. As long as God, who knows our future, provides our agenda and goes with us as we fulfill His mission, we can have boundless hope. This does not mean we should spare pain, suffering, or hardship, but that God will see us to a glorious conclusion. God did not forget His future. Even though Israel was captive in Babylon, He planned to give them a new beginning with a new purpose - to turn them into new people. In times of deep trouble, it may appear that God has forgotten you, but God may be preparing you, as he did the people of Judah with a new beginning with Him in the center.
Yes It could have a double aplication. The old Testament isint just a story but he also talks to us thru that history. He always has a solution at the end.
I Understand this Verse is for ALL of His People, for we Know that the Word of God is Living and active and His Word is past present and future. Yeah very true to depend on God whatever the times tell us. Colossians 3 says that our life is hidden in Christ and when He returns our life will be given to us. Christ is our life! God knows that and is preparing our hearts while in this veeeeery confusing life. A sheep doesn’t ask the shepherd every 5 minutes “hey where is the grass 😩?” It follows the shepherd even when no grass is visible.

At first reading it, I didn't quite know what to associate this with, concerning my daughter.
After hearing your presentation, I am convinced the Lord wants me to recline, lay back, lean back, rest in this truth even of this vey difficult matter..
He had spoken to me, 4 years ago, that This is not my Home. She is not alone. And I am the resurrection and the Life.
I am confident, the discovery of this message coupled with further exploration, he desires me to rest in this very Word.
I have permission to take this Word personal. Amen. Even while being privy to it's original context.
It still came from the Master, God, and His Word is life to us.

I got the inspiration this morning to hold on to that verse. It all began when I had to clean a public toilet before I took a bath. It had really been messed up by the school children I teach. I share a dormitory block with them because the school cannot afford decent housing for all the staff. I was haunted by the decision I took to teach in this badly disadvantaged region of Uganda- Karamoja! But then I get comforted by the thought that being a Christian isn't easy. It sometimes involving cleaning a mess you have no idea who put it there. The Jeremiah verse 29:11 comes to mind that this difficult situation will not last for ever! However, I had not thought about the original context of the message and how more appropriate it should be to my present situation. Now I know it may take longer but God has a plan!!!! Thank you so much.

what i got from this is that life is going to be tuff and what you want might not come in a lifetime but the imprint you leave on the world or the people around you but dont give up just because it isnt something you see

To me, it ties into what you said that the Israel's bondage could be symbolic of someone's life issue that they are facing. Thus, the same God that delivers a nation still delivers us. It was nice to review more of the historical background to the text because I agree we should read the entire book for a fuller and deeper understanding. I also believe that along with hope, God brings us victory according to our faith.

It still applies to us (believers) today as we live in this world in which Satan lives and is even referred to as the god” of this world. This is not our home, and God is still promising us individually and collectively and that even in this world we will have tribulations, but He is the way, he overcame it and in His son we have victory and we reign, He came to give us life and life more abundantly with Him, and we will do even greater things on this earth. We can look at the disciples in the New Testament and see they were blessed collectively and individually. Respectfully

I dove deep into this verse and chapter after asking GOD for a passage to help me with what I was/am going through. I kept asking every week or change in situation, and HE, at one point, kept giving me this verse week after week. Then I finally asked HIM why and what I was missing. Taking it back to the original language. Plans is not the actually translation, and should be the word thoughts (It actually fits better go figure). However, in context of the whole chapter. I have come to find out that I was getting the "I'm doing this for your own good talk". We like to think GOD wouldn't do anything that would seem to hurt us, however, that's not the case. He says HE caused them to be taken captive. However, HE is saying that whatever HE does, HE does for our own good. For us to make it to the expected end. There was a reason HE caused them to be captured and eventually call back upon HIM. Jeremiah 29:12 "Then you shall call upon me......"

It is not a verse of "granting wishes" but rather a reminder (to me and to you) that God will always give us what we need and He has no intent to hurt us as long as we are faithful. He will never take away the free will that often leads us into temptation and sin, but If we are faithful he will never harm us. Who in their right mind reads two lines and doesn't delve deeper? The Bible was written to teach us, not about "me" or "you" - it was a generality of teachings to show God's faithful how to live the right way.

Thank you so much for this video. My alcoholic daughter gave me a framed art piece of this verse and put it on the wall above my desk. My first response was to think of it as meant for the individual but as I gained a greater knowledge of the trials and tribulations of Israel and its apostasy, I began to slowly question it as I realized Jeremiah was a prophet and this verse was meant for the entire nation of Israel. The Lord certainly did fulfill that verse over and over again in the history of Israel.

My pastor told me the same thing. He has a PhD in theology and a brilliant mind and I have trusted his teaching for over 20 years. Even after he retired he's still my go-to-guy when I don't understand something. But on this verse, I have to disagree. The entire OT was written for Israel so if we take this one verse and say it doesn't apply to all of God's people, then the entire OT is irrelevant to those of us saved by grace through faith in Jesus. What many people may take out of context is the use of prosper in many translations. But the Hebrew word is actually shalom, or peace. God promises to provide for His children, He does not intend to harm us, and He alone gives us hope, purpose and peace. Like every Word of Scripture, this verse is applicable to all believers. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ❣

We’re all encountered by leader who stirs us to move ahead someone who believes we can do the task He has given and who will be with us all the way. God is that kind of leader. He knows the future and His plans for us are good and full of hope. As long as God, who knows our future, provides our agenda and goes with us as we fulfill His mission, we can have boundless hope. This does not mean we should spare pain, suffering, or hardship, but that God will see us to a glorious conclusion.
God did not forget His future. Even though Israel was captive in Babylon, He planned to give them a new beginning with a new purpose - to turn them into new people. In times of deep trouble, it may appear that God has forgotten you, but God may be preparing you, as he did the people of Judah with a new beginning with Him in the center.

Yeah very true to depend on God whatever the times tell us. Colossians 3 says that our life is hidden in Christ and when He returns our life will be given to us. Christ is our life! God knows that and is preparing our hearts while in this veeeeery confusing life.
