I was only 7 years old in 1980. My parents and i were living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada then and this station brings back memories of AM 930 CJCA for me! It was a talk radio station during the day and played MOR music in the evenings! Thanks for uploading this, it reminds me of a simpler and happier time before all our lives and society in general got way too complicated and self-centered.🙁
As a kid in central Kentucky, I had a radio that looked like a cheeseburger that I would listen to distant AM stations like WLS, WLW in Cincy, and KDKA in Pittsburgh. I miss the simplicity of those times.
I hear ya! I was a kid in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada listening to AM 930 CJCA that had a very similar format to WLS and played the same music! I miss those days too! The world seems so dark and complex now! I would give anything to go back in time for one week in 1980 and meet my younger self and see my mom again. She died in 2015. I miss her.😢
Obsessive research man here: This Tommy Edwards aircheck is from July 5, 1980, 1 o'clock hour. An ad for the movie "Urban Cowboy" means it had to be after June 13, and a mention about a Friends of the Parks event means it had to be before July 12. At 15:45, a promo welcomes the Doobie Brothers "tonight and tomorrow" at the Alpine Valley Music Theater, and the only such gig between those dates occurred on July 5-6, so "tonight" is July 5, 1980.
Grew up listening to WLS am 890 late night in west central Minnesota... could occasionally get Lujack in the Morning.... Those were the days - DJ's were dj's and could be creative and talk over ramps to songs.
So many wonderful memories! Loved WLS. What makes me sad is how computerized radio stations have become. My attachment to on air personalities is not as prevalent these days.
I'm super young (31) but I basically live off of these airchecks. Radio broadcasts are much more valuable than music albums...etc because once the broadcast is done it is gone for good if it wasn't recorded.

Summer after graduation from high school, small town south of Kansas City. After dark, it was the Big 89!
