  • This weekend I got in flights on the east side of Oahu, Hawaii.
First in Laie, where I lived for several years, and then around Chinaman's hat near Kualoa Ranch.
I also worked on getting different camera angles with the set up and breakdown of the Paramotor.
Enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian scenery! (WATCH IN 1080p IF YOU CAN)

Dude I totally dig, I sail in kaneohe all the time. Right now I'm looking into learning to fly paramotor to fly the north shore

Would this make it across the channel between Kauai & Oahu?

That’s about 90 miles, so probably not. But I am wanting to try the crossing from Molokai to Oahu sometime soon with a chase boat on a light wind day.

Man you really want to get yourself a Flat Top paramotor as there are so many safety updates from the 1970's designs. 19 dead in a single year on the old designs vs ZERO in the history of the sport on Flat Top paramotors. You would also get a lot more power and it would weight far less. Plus the Flat Top paramotor is about 100 TIMES stronger and more durable so it will take a lot more abuse without getting prop strikes all the time. Hope that helps. It really changes the whole sport to fly a Flat Top & Dominator.

My Current set up is a Vitorrazi Moster; the same engine Scout Paramotor utilizes. It works great for me, but I have heard excellent things about Flat Top paramotors as well. Thank you for all the great info, I'll look more into it!

Not all moster engines are the same. There are many differences in the configuration and optimization. The Flat Top with the same base engine puts out 30 lbs more thrust then the scout and does it with less heat and more efficiency. The key though is in the safety. Units like the scout have the very same issues as the first 1970's designs. No protection from the prop, no crumple zone, no quick release harness, they don't float, no handless seating, no face plant protection, no trigger throttle with grip safety... Just one oops and you can put your brake toggle in the prop which can wrap up locking you into a spiral face first into the ground in seconds. The Flat Top is one of the only units specifically designed to address that issue. I've had that very thing happen to me TWICE on other units. Because the prop is so close to the very flimsy netting and weak cage any little bump and WHAP you get a prop strike. The Flat Top is so strong you can stand on the netting. It's 400 lb strength kevlar line that is riveted to the cage. By doing that it acts like spokes in a bicycle wheel dramatically improving strength. You can crush a bike rim with just one hand. Add spokes though and you can take it over a 10 ft jump. It's much the same with why the Flat Top is so much stronger then other units but while also being considerably lighter. The harness on the Flat Top is spectra cloth which is extremely light and the seat board is honeycomb composite. $2000 a sheet for the seat board material. The harness weighs only 2 lbs compared to 7-9 lbs for most other harnesses. It's another reason the Flat Top is so much lighter. The crumple zone under your spine is the biggest safety factor though. If you ride a dirt bike you are going to dump it. It's just part of that sport. In paramotoring you are going to smack into the ground. It's just part of this sport. WHEN you smack into the ground on units like the scout or almost all others the first thing to hit the ground is your butt and it really doesn't take much of a hit to break your spine or even kill you. 19 dead in a single year on other units mainly because of that difference. 5 of those 19 though drowned on units like the scout because they sink immediately in water and have so many buckles you can't get out of the harness to save your life. The Flat Top can float and it has a quick release harness so again zero have ever drowned on Flat Tops. Face plant protection is another huge factor. Units like the scout and almost all others have a very high center of gravity so when you fall down you almost for sure go face first. Neither do they have anything out in front of you to catch the weight so you get smashed face first into the ground with all the weight and thrust the paramotor is producing bashing you in face first. Numerous broken bones, faces, noses, hands wrists and one guy even snapped his neck and is now quadriplegic because of that. With the Flat Top you have a very low center of gravity so when you lose your balance you tend to just sit down and slide safely to a stop on the rounded skids. If you do rock forwards the comfort bars stick way out in front of you which will catch all the weight and thrust the unit is producing so nothing at all bashes down on top of you. There are hundreds of little details like this. I made a list of 304 on my website. So many people just never think of until they find out the hard way. It's why it's so critical to just fly a Flat Top so you have all that vast experience and understanding designed in to help you instead of stacking the odds against yourself. Let me know if you have any other questions. Are you flying a beginner certified glider at least?

It sounds like you really know a lot about this sport! Thank you for taking the time to give me all the sound advice! I really don’t have a loyalty to any brand, but you definitely are convincing me to look more into Flat Top. Maybe that will be my next Paramotor set up, once I have funds to buy a new one. And I do fly with emergency flotation in case you were wondering. My glider is a Golden4 Gradient 24 square meter wing.

You are very welcome. I hope it helped. There are so many little details in the sport and people just don't know how critical so many of the little things really are.
