Intro to native bees and the Washington Bee Atlas

Karen Wright, Pollinator Taxonomist with the Washington State Department of Agriculture, gives a brief over of bees and the differences between bees and wasps as well as the differences between non-native honey bees and native wild bees. She also discusses the need for the first-ever statewide effort to document Washington's native bees to better understand what bees are in the state, their habitat requirements, and how they are doing. She discusses the Washington Bee Atlas and its goal of mapping native bees and their host plants and provides information about how people can volunteer to support this effort.
