Victorinox knives are lifelong investments. I received the Swiss Army model as a birthday present 30 years ago. Still have & use it to this day. No rust or pitting on the metal parts. The blades still hold a fine edge after years of sharpening & use Lost the toothpick & tweezer attachments on day 2, though...
I've had the same one in my pocket for 20 years now. An RAF stamped one. It's perfect. I've bought tonnes of others over the years, but this one never leaves my pocket.
I've been sporting a Victorinox TINKERER for the past 30 years. For me, it is the most practical Swiss- daily carry. For day-to-day activities, it's amazing how many times I reach my pocket for my Swiss. This is quickly noticed when you forget it and reach for it several times throughout the day. Between the main blade, small blade, Awl, Phillips screwdriver, can opener and Slot headed screwdriver/ Bottle opener, it's the perfect knife!
Yeah it’s hard to beat a SAK for every day use they are just the right size I carried a Huntsman for over 20 years then bought some high end super knives and tried that for a few years now I’m back to a Victorinox pioneer x because the scissors are a item I use day in and out. More bonuses of carrying and useing a SAK is they are easily sharpened(they hold the edge no problem with daily use don’t know what people are cutting daily that would need more) and the cost is low enough that if I lose it I’m not devastated like I have been when I’ve lost $200+ knives. I did miss having a pocket clip on my knife but I picked up one of their multiclips and like it more than the pocket clips on most knifes it doesn’t get caught on items and pulled out of your pocket.
The 58 mm Rambler in a 91 mm format would be the best SAK. The Scissors, nail file/metal file and blade of the 91 mm Champ are the most useful tools adding in anything after that is down to what the owner wants. I use the Philips screw driver and magnifying glass most often and then the insert screw driver for glasses and electronic devices where a tiny screw driver is most useful.
Better yet Pioneer X, skip the saw altogether and keep it thin, scissors, blade, awl (packages), bottle opener (flat head screws), can opener (philips head screws). Pretty much the perfect SAK IMO.
Honestly for utility alone it's hard to beat the classic Victorinox Swiss army knife, they are ubiquitous for a damn good reason. But I don't just carry a knife for utility, sometimes I just want to fidget around with a button lock.
SAKs are becoming one of my favorite edc tools. I tend to customize them with different scales and lanyards but if only Victorinox would do a build your own, it would change everything.
I found it on Amazon, but does not have the small hook knife, which I would really love. I’m a pool cleaner so it turned me onto this. Was you saying that it was a highly corrosion proof?
This is almost half way there for me. I really like the halk bill. I hate nailfills that replace the second blade. It needs sissers for me. And the can opener bottle opener combo. With green or yellow handle and I could not resist.
Victorinox take a bit of a beating for some reason, but there's a reason why everyone on the planet knows what a Swiss Army Knife is. They're brilliant.
If I paid $500 for a knife it would have to be super useful and last the rest of my life because there wouldn't be any more folders bought. I have an SAK Farmer and it's fantastic but if im honest, would have bought the No#7 but didn't know about it at the time. Might still in the future, that hook blade would be a nice addition.
@@la_old_salt2241 Yup, eventually had a moment of clarity and thought how many of these would I replace if they went missing? It's a surprisingly small number so I cut back to the very occasional purchase.
Victorinox knows what they're doing for sure. I keep an Electrician or Pioneer in my pocket most of the time. If I skip my multitool that day I'll grab my Farmer X instead. I almost always have a better knife in my pocket, yet the SAK sees more use. Pretty much unless it's a quick one handed deal, or I have a ton of stuff to cut its the Victorinox that does the work.
Same here, but I went back to a Otter knife with one of those tiny Leatherman multi tools and a sharpener. It’s inoffensive, nobody feels threatened by it and even in places with dystopian knife laws like the UK you can still carry one (or could last time I was there) without ending up at a police station in a conversation with a detective.
If you want SAK and super steels look at triangle tools, a SAK modder from Ukraine who makes custom blades in super steels I have made videos comparing mine to other super steel knives and SAKs :)
I would get one likw this id they would put better steel like 14c28n so we couls sharpen it less often. I have handyman and while i use tools actually every day since i got folding knife I dont use it. Simply steel is too soft, after using it occasionally at work i had to sharpen it every 2-3 days to get nice cutting edge, I am not saying it was completely dull but cutting paper was stsrting to become a problem. 14c28n is excellent not expensive steel, very tough, easy to sharpen, hight corrosion resistant + its keeping its edge retention above average amongs all those steels also premium ones. If you want really nice compact blade thats sleek, get foz vultis bigger version with m390 steel you will forget what does it means to sharpen knife.
Ruike multi tools come with 12C27. It's a little step below 14C288n but still nicer steel than what's offered on SAK. Functionality wise it's similar but not same.
@@SinNombre-g7n 14c is a lot better than 12c I have knife with both steels. 😀 And true I still think 12c is better than sak. But if they would put 14c28n in blade man.

Biggest thing missing on the 7 that drives me crazy, is the bail or ring. When I go outdoors I like to use them with a static line so I don’t lose or misplace them and the 7 is a great tool I’d love to take along but always skip it just for fear it would be lost
What is the resale like on an expensive pocket knife and how many are truly “collectable” in the sense that they have value as a collection rather than it’s just a bunch of items you like, don’t use and spent an inordinate amount of money on? 😂
@@pandoranbias1622 the one he shows is the 7 pioneer and this model has a saw and hooked knife. The model used by swiss soldiers doesn't have a saw or hooked knife.
My $20 knife feels similar to a $500 knife and does the same function. Had it for 10 years through military service and all. Materialism is so damn dumb

Agreed. Just bought one. Excellent knife and good value for money.
I definitely agree the Victorinox alox is probably the best edc choice, but the Pioneer X is the best model in my opinion.

Who else thinks that scissors instead of saw will make a better edc?
Farmer X. Both. No stupid harvesting blade

No scissors on a vic is a dealbreaker for me.
Farmer X Alox. It's missing the small knife but has a can opener instead.
Ive carried a victorinox since i got out of high school. Sure i often carry a second primary blade, but that victorinox has saved my ass so many times
The alox and pioneer are my favorite victornox

Right. I hardly even wanna spend $60 on a knife. But that's basically the average cheaper price nowadays.
I've found they are like chips/crisps. You can't stop at one.

A victorinox and a fixed blade is all I need
What comes in that pouch aside the victorinox knife? is it a fountain pen?
The pouch isn't a sold set, they're three separate items from different companies.

The curved little blade bends soooo easily, it's only good for fruit, it bends in wood. 🤦
