    Good video, and nicely explained. I appreciate the admission to the rookie mistake, however, this is all natural when going through an excercise for the first time. It helps the viewers understand the challenges of doing this job. I have seen Elsawin extract of how to do this and curious if the VW tools are really necessary as mentioned below (T40094/T40096).

    Great video. I'm also finding that there's not a huge amount of information on these CR TDIs yet. Thanks for thinking about us☺

    Hello, I broke the bolt that holds the cylinder with the clamp. What is the name of that bolt and if it can be removed without disassembling the engine?

    Thank you for the upload. Any chance you could let me know what the tighten torque of the camshaft cap is? Or the Girdle as is otherwise known. Please and thanks.

    Spring loaded two-piece camshaft sprocket (the one on the table) requires special tool T40096. Without the tool there is a big risk that bearings are damaged and complete head must be renewed. Great video though, thanks for that. If everything is done by the book, you need also toolsets T40094 and T40096.

    • @KidFromQueens
      @KidFromQueens 2 роки тому +3

      That tool is 500 bucks! They claim it's to prevent axial play but as long as u get the cams timed correctly and torque the cam bridge correctly, it really shouldn't be an issue. It's ok to use your brain and not use "special tools"!

      Honda motorcycles use those style of gear silencers.
      With them you can easily snap the cam if you do not align the silencer teeth on re assembly

    • @benjaminberger9629
      @benjaminberger9629 8 місяців тому

      So thats the only reason for the tool? so you can align the two-piece camshaft?

    thanks for the video. I have a ticking noise coming from my engine when it’s cold. When the the engine has a bit of temperature it’s very difficult to notice. 2.0 CFGB. Any known issues?

      Tight the injector older, very gentle, Don't break the bolt, use torque range, if snapped, that is very big job then

  • @HeyHiHello90

    How did thqt timing trick with the cams go? Prior to pulling mine out, vac side cam was not square to head but never had any issues.

  • @Yarusi

    Have you adjusted your valves? Would it be necessary to adjust valves on a stock head tdi with higher miles?

    • @tvanc542
      @tvanc542  2 роки тому

      There is no adjustment with the hydraulic lifters. However, if you are running aftermarket cams and other hardware, the proper engine math is necessary. I had to cut the exhaust valve spring pockets some and slightly trim the valve stems to accommodate the higher lift cams I was using.

    How's the cp3 working? Did you have to remap according to the cp3 parameters or cancel lift pump?

    • @tvanc542
      @tvanc542  4 роки тому +1

      If you are after big power and want to up the rail pressure, you will require remapping. It's tricky and took some doing to get rid of a pressure oscillation I had. I still have the lift pump in the tank, but have deleted the auxiliary pump.

    You mention ARP stud swap after OEM bolts removed. What part# did you use??
    My project- 2014 Passat CKRA-TDI, replaced head gasket after 300k miles, w/valve job. Wrong head gasket and I’m tired of single use bolts. Plus need the strength for Stage3 malone tune Ive been running for a few years.

    • @tvanc542
      @tvanc542  2 місяці тому

      Honestly don't remember. But I do recall it was a chore to find the right size. Take a stock head bolt, measure, and then reference against the the ARP chart.

    • @tvanc542
      @tvanc542  3 роки тому

      Not sure as I've never worked on those, but I'd guess it would be essentially the same. Take the valve cover off. Rotate the engine to top dead center and verify what it looks like before disassembly.

    • @srigarudamotors4688
      @srigarudamotors4688 3 роки тому

      Yes it's same and only 1 cylinder is less.

    What sealant did you use between the two surfaces?

    • @tvanc542
      @tvanc542  Рік тому

      Black RTV. Can be found at any auto parts store. You need to be careful how you apply it, and not too much so you don't plug any of the oil ports to the camshaft.
