    Great review and I agree with everything you said. Love this boat. I struck gold and found one at a yard sale for $50! It is in mint condition with a paddle. I have several other kayaks. I even have another 10 foot Wilderness systems boat but none of them are nearly as good as this boat. I am a big guy 6’1” and 280lbs and I am not nearly as nimble as I used to be. The large opening is great for both me and my dog. Have a great day!

    One of the most honest and down to earth reviews (on anything) I've ever seen. Thank you.

    My wife and I have had Pungo 140's for more than 5 years. They are
    great kayaks. We have paddled on all types of water in North Carolina
    and Virginia. From the calm Lake Drummond in the Great Dismal Swamp, to
    open water in the Chesapeake Bay, the Pungo 140 handles and tracks
    great. We have paddled as many as 13 miles in a day and the 140 is
    stable, comfortable, and easy to get in and out of. I would highly
    recommend the Pungo 140 as a day-touring kayak.

    Great review! My wife is 71 years old, 5’5”tall & weighs 125 pounds. She has been paddling a 16’ sea kayak for 40+ years. Since she had back surgery she wants to get a boat with a larger cockpit. I paddle a Prijon Seayak. We paddle on various size lakes. I’d like your opinion on whether she should go with the Pungo 120 or 140?
    Thanks,
    John

    Meat Trapper, this is a great review ! Very commendable to point out the drawbacks as well as advantages for potential buyers. I have purchased a number of Pungo 140's over the years, (an 2006 Home Depot orange, a 2010 yellow lighter weight version, both with pre-Orix hatch) and finally a few of the later mango colored 140's. I would use them for 3-5 years and then sell them cheap. I tried/owned other kayaks but really missed the Pungo 140. For my purposes, summer fishing and winter backchannel photography, the 140 is ideal. Now that it has been a few years since the 140 went out of production, some folks try to sell even pre 2010 versions for ridiculous prices. My seller's remorse recently ended with the purchase of a late model, previous rental Pungo 140 at a canoe and kayak store in Newbury , MA. 'Feels like reconnecting with a long lost friend.

    Appreciate your honest point of view, thoughts, and reasoning on this subject. Making me think...never tried a kayak, but think now I should give it a go to see pros and cons first hand.

      Rafal Luszcz Its a good idea to rent one and try it out. Sometimes a dealer has tryout days so you paddle different models before buying.

    I have the same boat and I love it, too. I don’t use the dashboard either. It scuffs up my shins and knees. Do you have any experience with adding or replacing the seat? My wife bought me a Skwoosh Expedition high-back seat as the stock seat is not quite high enough for me even at its max height. Not sure whether to put the new seat atop the old one or completely replace it.

      No experience with a replacement seat. The stock one is ok. I'm still paddling and enjoying this boat.

    Do you have a picture of it as it’s strapped to your truck? I have a Tundra Crewmax 5.5’ bed and don’t know how I would attach it.

      I use a bed extender. You can buy one from harbor freight.

    Good review on a great boat. I still don't understand why they were discontinued in 2018. I have both the 120 and 140 and their is a significant difference in how they behave.

    Hi, can you tell if this kayak would be good on a lake, say 3 TO 4 foot waves?

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  2 роки тому

      If you are a competent paddler, yes. A total newbie might have issues in those conditions.

    Do you use the boat for fishing? If so, what does your set up look like? Do you have space for rod holders ect?
    How would you suppose the boat would fare on the great lakes or ocean? I fish both.

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  6 років тому

      CamtronianDaBarbaric I do kayak fush, but not from this boat. Side space in the cockpit is limited, and it's not stable enough to stand up in. It's a very fast, easy to track touring boat. Honestly, I think there are better choices for fishing. But for touring and long range camping, this is a great choice.

    Looking hard at this kayak. I currently have a Dagger Axis 12. It's a super versatile kayak and looking to keep it. I'm looking for something that has some utility(larger cockpit) but still have speed and tracking. I'm 6'0" and 222 lbs. Can't decide between Old Town Loon 126 and Pungo. Saw two bummer reviews of the Pungo claiming they rock side to side, have a lousy seat and are generally uncomfortable. What your experience? Thanks in advance~

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  6 років тому

      David Crowl I sold my Loon. The loon is a barge compared to the Pungo. The Pungo does rock side to side, but catches before you flip. This allows you to lean the boat. The loon is a great entry level boat. The Pungo is a sleek, fast touring boat.

      Thank you The Meat Trapper...I'll try to demo the Pungo then make a decision.

    Great vid! I recently drove across a couple of states to buy a Pungo 140 and love it. Question, it looked like you had a spray skirt in one part of your video. If so, can you comment on that?

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  4 роки тому

      It's not a spray skirt, bit a removable plastic tray that is nice to have. Mine came with the boat.

      Thanks for the quick reply. I must've seen the bottom of your PFD and thought it was a spray skirt. It wasn't the gray plastic console. Thanks again!

    so, its been a year since you made this video. Has your opinion changed at all since then? After a ton of research, this kayak is at the top of a short list right now.

      I am still loving this boat. It's not the boat for small, rocky creeks where you need to make fast turns or avoid obstacles, but for covering long distances this thing excels. Very stable, extremely fast - I have hit 6 mph in it paddling hard. Just make sure you can carry it as it's 14 feet long, but the hatches, hardware, seat, etc is still perfect. Just glides through the water and leaves others behind. Not a fishing boat - it's a touring boat. Hope this helps.

      Yes, this helps. Thanks! I'm not an angler, but I would love to do some light touring with it and day trips on inland lakes in Michigan.
