When I was a kid playing this game for the first time, as soon as Sonic hit the street after falling out of that helicopter and started boarding down the street I was fully locked in.
@@madeofmars It really was. It very introduces you to the core of the game (go forward, go fast) while removing the ability to fail to go forward and limiting your ability to fail to go fast. Once you get off the board you have acclimated to basic direction + jump controls and are used to moving forward and fast, so you do so and all the rest comes naturally. Its really good, and a sneaky way to have a tutorial without ever acting like it is one.

When I was a kid playing this game for the first time, as soon as Sonic hit the street after falling out of that helicopter and started boarding down the street I was fully locked in.
In hindsight this was a genius introduction
@@madeofmars It really was. It very introduces you to the core of the game (go forward, go fast) while removing the ability to fail to go forward and limiting your ability to fail to go fast. Once you get off the board you have acclimated to basic direction + jump controls and are used to moving forward and fast, so you do so and all the rest comes naturally. Its really good, and a sneaky way to have a tutorial without ever acting like it is one.
