SLB is the best director hindi cinema has at this point. Guzharish is one of the best movie made by him, u can feel the pain of the character in it. Waiting for Bajirao Mastani an era which we always dreamt and now it would be alive on the canvas of SLB.... All the best to the entire team..
I love Sanjay leela bhansali for his uniqueness. His films are hindi cinema in all its glory. The dance, the canvas, loud expressions done really well. He is a complete Indian filmmaker inspired by Indian cinema.

I was so happy seeing Saraswatichandra poster right behind him! I was a hugeeee fan of that show and I was very disappointed he pretty much gave up on the show after a few months because Saras & kumud were a beautiful couple.

I am a proud Rajput...and I absolutely love Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This man is a genius of modern film art. The way he brings his dreamy vision onto a film...it is unparalleled.
He has become a victim of too much false rumor mongering by politically motivated groups. India probably doesn't even deserve someone as ahead of his time.
I loved what he said about Ranveer Singh. . He is an extraordinary actor .
These days I spend hours watching various videos of film companion, one of the few places from where one can actually get an idea of how films are made. After every video I not only get inspired by the person being interviewed but also by Anupama. You are amazing and truly dedicated. Thank you for this channel😀. You have made me your fan ma'am.
SLB is a director of his own kind as:
1)The scenes of his films make you awestruck by their grandeur and at the same time take ur heart on a roller coaster of emotions.
2)No one in bollywood can depict emotional frustration in the way he does.

BajiRao seems like the Best movie of the year to be honest. It shows effort, such fine detailing, engaging script, and stunning performances throughout. Well Done SLB.
i just realised i am just like SLB. the way he was neglected in his childhood by his cousins because they thought he was ugly, the way he tends to absorb every situation and finds it difficult to let go of ugly things that happened in his life. i am just like him. i am devastated from the inside. i have a lot of fire and angst inside me.

i have always loved slb's films. one can find pure "indianness" in his cinema. he is my favorite director, and it gives me more joy that he makes his films the way he pleases, and inspired by our own classics. always have and always will love his cinema.

I would never, ever, imagine that he had so much pain inside that he wanted to share with the world through his films. I've known indian cinema for a few years and I always had some issues with Bhansali's movies, thinking that he prioritized aesthetics over story. I still think he did it in some movies, but now that I know that every piece of his soul was in each scene, maybe I'll look at them differently.
Great interview, Anupama. What I'm enjoying the most about this channel is that you can interview people without a time-limit, so the artists end up revealing more than the basic.

Thanks Carolyne. I agree that in places, it feels like SLB is putting aesthetics over story but what I admire is the rigour of his approach. Even in his most flawed films, there is ambition. And yes, I love that digital gives us freedom. Keep watching and spread the word.

I have been a fan of SLB for many years now. Black is one of my all time fav. movies! His cinematography is pure art! I would definitely say that his work is one of the reasons why I want to become a filmmaker myself. I agree SLB absorbs a lot, and he is extremely good at expressing it all through his music. I have no reason whatsoever to be emotional or to cry, but whenever I try to sing "... tum to gaye par yaad naa gayee ..." or "... ye jo baarish hai, dekho na..", dunno why do I cry somewhere deep within.

Thanks for this wonderful interview, Anupama. You've given us a rare, beautiful insight into the mind of a reclusive genius. Was amused to learn about his process-- especially the fact that he doesn't resort to a storyboard. Couldn't help but notice the similarities between SLB and Anurag Kashyap's flops (Saawariyan and Bombay Velvet)-- the nature of the failures and how they responded to it. Both felt that the attacks got personal and vicious on seeing top-notch, successful directors experience a colossal failure. Both also left the country (if I'm not wrong Paris is a common factor too?) for a bit, took refuge in art away from home and came back with a rejuvenated mind.

I didn’t realise the similarities between SLB and Anurag but you’re absolutely right. The nature of failure was the same. I didn’t like Bombay Velvet but I still haven’t figured out what caused people to turn so vicious in their attack. Strange are the ways of showbiz. Thank you for watching.

gosh...y the weird giggle all the time...and with no apparent reason.i find her funny and also y is he wearing kajal. ..everything serious deep talk and u see a man wearing kajal make you wonder if it's all an act.every said and done. .I still think he's a genius
its great to see that he creates what he likes but i miss the factors gave face to his creative vision such as Madhuri dixit, saroj khan, Aishwariya rai and Shahrukh khan. I wish his movies could again find the right factors to give it that beauty which he says Meena kumari had. I wish him success . Anupama you and rajeev definately do it the best. I am not a movie fan... But have been following anupama n Rajiv last couple of months for director / producers interviews. I am interested in viewing movie as a product and how ppl define and execute product creation. Anupama seems to understand this entire process so much, don't you feel like creating a story and telling it to the world rather than just analyzing it?
