So it wasn't Senshi in Cooking TV Show Host mode. Lot's of sense.
Also maybe he wasn't really thinking of how the griffin was going to eat him when he overreacted, but how it was going to kill everyone else.
He said "it's dangerous" and tried to redirect their attention to the mushrooms, like you could do to protect a child. Survivor's guilt and all.
That being said it's also fair to interpret it as senshi thinking that the griffin finally came for him too, maybe it's even a bit of both
Elves normally can't grow facial hair but Senshi is such a chad he pulled it off
Considering that his beard is huge even for a dwarf, it can be assumed that his elven form displays the maximum possible facial hair growth for an elf.
Ryoko Kui has done drawings of the entire main cast as every race, Senshi is canonically peak physical aesthetics for every single one.

Chilk is taller that the average halfling, this makes that when it change into other raced it also is taller that the average of say race.
About Laios being frustrated is whole point of his character tho.
If we look at him only the surface, most people will think he is weirdo, monster obsessed and thing.
Well yeah, he is weirdo but he does really care about his companion but the problems is he always express it in a weird way and cause people to misunderstanding
This sooo much!! Also, the fact that Laios is sooo obviously Autistic adds to this fact, too! He communicates differently due to being Autistic and shows his care in a different way due to being Autistic. However, because of that fact, he often gets misinterpreted by people who aren't Autistic like his party. This is because Autistic and Allistic (Not Autistic) people have different communication styles. We communicate differently and so misunderstandings happen a lot due to the different communication styles. But that is also why Autistic people tend to mostly communicate better with other Autistic people due to similar communication styles. Like how Falin and Laios are more easily able to communicate as obviously Autistic people because they are super similar in communication styles as Autistic people. That's why Falin and Laios tend to not have the same communication issues the same way as Laios does with his own party. Laios has dealt with being ostracized because he gets constantly misunderstood and his intentions get misunderstood because he acts differently as an Autistic person. Very realistic to what Autistic people actually experience. We react differently than what Allistic (Not Autistic) people expect and because of that, our intentions can get misinterpreted a lot and it leads to a lot of ableism towards us Autistic people. Sooo fun! 😒
But yeah, Laios deeply cares about the people around him. But he expresses that care differently and so he tends to get misinterpreted when he shows his care in different ways. It may be frustrating for Allistic people, but it makes clear sense to me as an Autistic person. Like I can see where Laios got to those thought processes. 😂😂
Writing this down during the premiere. They left out a lot while adapting this episode, though they did try to squeeze in some of it through voice acting. Here are the big ones, in order:
Gillin leaves studying the dungeon to Senshi, and the rest of the team do everything other than that. Gillin mentions while arguing with Brigan that while all the two of them can do is search for food, Senshi may find them the exit in due time. I guess his idea was to let whoever would be the one looking for the exit focus exclusively on that task, and then their situation got too dire to look for anything other than food for the day.
When Senshi asks where they find food like wine and cheese, Gillin reveals to Senshi that they have been stealing from orcs. The orcs set lookouts when they realize this. That's the reason why the dwarfs were starving before the final monster attack.
Chilchuck pulls Laios aside to talk him out of cooking the meat. Chil's the one that points out griffins have no blunt weapons and surmises that Gillin slew Brigan and cooked him. So he tells Laios they'll just end up hurting Senshi if they continue. This happens right before the scene where Laios goes through winged monsters in his head, but Laios deduces it himself in the anime.
Chilchuck recalls the folk remedies his people would use when Laios asks if there's a way to cure themselves, but says they were all ultimately just child abuse and no cure. That's why they have to find the mushrooms. Laios wonders whether they'll turn to normal or end up changing into a different race and daydreams about becoming a kobold, an orc, or a troll.
Immediately following Laios' remarks on how quickly they got used to their new bodies, there's a *HILARIOUS* panel in the manga where the rest of his team have flashbacks of how they once treated old man Chilchuck like a kid.
As a bonus, here are some tidbits about Senshi and the mining team from the extras and the author's blog. There are no spoilers:
Senshi, at 112, is now older than the rest of his team were when they entered the dungeon. In fact, the one with the braided grey beard was slightly younger than Namari (he's 58 and Namari is 61). As an aside, dwarf Laios also looks around 60 years old. Senshi lived with the orcs for some time once he returned to the dungeon, but decided to leave before they started including him in their hierarchy & expected him to join in on attacking adventurers. He has known Zon (the orc chieftain from Episode 4) since Zon was a baby.
Gillin was the leader of the team, and tried to be an older brother figure because of his position. The team was formed by miners that left a mining site after a dispute. When Senshi lost his parents, Gillin took him in. He found outward appearance important in winning people over. He had an older brother that he had cut contact with.
Brigan, the dwarf with the forked beard, was described as old-fashioned in the world guide (sold separately!). He and Gillin had known each other for a long time, and became increasingly at odds with each other as time went on. He was the one that tutored Invar on mining. He had no family.
Noor, the gnome with the glasses, was the oldest among them. He was Gillin's adviser and in charge of appraising the relics they'd find. Apparently, he thought Gillin was simple-minded. He got more into drinking after joining his friends. He had no family.
Invar, the dwarf with the braided beard, was second youngest after Senshi. Apparently, he's considered handsome by dwarf standards (beauty standards differ from race to race in this universe). Whereas Senshi lookep up to Gillin, he looked up to Brigan. He had a younger brother.
Totan, the dwarf with the round beard, was from a different city than the rest. He was from a merchant family and his demeanor apparently shows his city-life upbringing. He was brought in by Gillin to manage the trading of the relics they found. His wife was a gnome, and he had a younger brother.
Personally, I really would've preferred they had the flashback be the entire episode to go into more detail, but they're rubbing up against the season's end, so I get it.
You're right. I remember thinking the flashback had enough material for an entire episode. But I guess they didn't want to end season 1 with a comedy changeling episode. So they're planning to end it with Laios and Fallin's backstory tying it all back together with the idea of rescuing Marcille like in Episode 1
A detail they don't include in the anime is Laios realizing Senshi was always the first to sit down the moment the party rested. Poor guy was probably exhausted, but never said anything!
The problem child Izutsumi has gradually become normal due to being around Laios and Marcille. She was raised poorly but at least she has good ethics.
The lack of ending credits (and a lot of little details being cut) tells you they REALLY had to squeeze to fit so much in a single episode. Kinda wish they'd devoted an entire episode to Senshi's backstory, but I understand the decision since they're up against the season's end, here.
"why this griffon wants to f##k up my day?" When in fact the thing just wanted to f##k up their horse.

I guess the baby orc that appears might be the present orc boss. Senshi knows their tribe since decades before.
I don't think so, Zon is in his 20s, orcs develop very quickly, in an illustration from the manga you see Senshi playing with Zon when he was still a child, and Senshi looked the same as he does now
It certainly is a unique way of exploring the stereotypical Fantasy Class Archetypes (Halfling Rogue, Human Fighter, etc.) as well as the physiological differences between the races.
Dwarves are very strong for short bursts, but are not made for endurance. So they wear lighter armour.
Halflings have the proportions of kids so they rely on stealth, or outright avoid fighting.
Chilchuck going for his default sneaking only to realize it doesn’t work as a tall-man was a great touch!
T scene cut? I could have sworn there was a scene of chilchuck walking faster than the others because his normal strides have lengthened

also on the topic of desires of the party, i think we can imagine what Izutsumi and Marcille want, at this point my guess would be that laios wants to freely create and study monsters. senshi and chilchuck are more difficult because they feel like really grounded people who kinda have what they want? chill is already a half foot union leader so maybe he would want to go full time into a job like that, that isn’t as dangerous? or maybe like have a brewery?? senshi i have no idea, man already is living the dream. maybe he would want a horse
One gag that got cut out of anime is about the bell. When Shuro was leaving the Dungeon he gave him an enchanted bell. If you ring it, its "sister" (which Shuro keeps on himself) rings as well. Shuro told Laois to ring it when they leave the dungeon and need to flee to the east, and then Laois threw it at the bottom of his backpack, where it shakes every time he takes a step. Now Shuro has on him a bell that constantly keeps ringing. It is also the same bell that Laois violently shook to attract attention of Inu-tsumi

As we all know, Laios does have his quirks, but not usually for its own sake. He just takes his neuro-divergent approach and it's not always apparent to his party members or us, the audience.
The dungeon responds to desires, after Falin was resurrected they got a bathhouse, and a house with a large kitchen! Hmm.. bathouse desires... Falin or Marcilles desire I wonder....
Kui spent a long time making everything connected and self referencing. Whether it was planned ahead of time or retroactively.... i dunno i just love the amount of care she put into this

Poor Laios. I guess it's more common to consider avoiding an issue to be courteous, but i don't think Laios is in the wrong for thinking "we should probably address the issue." I'm kinda saddened finding out how many people find him frustrating.

I honestly don't get the laois hate or annoyance to put it more lightly. It's goofy cartoon stuff. The show has serious topics that it tackles but he adds levity in his own way and is always well meaning.
I'm *cackling* at your predictions, I'm not going to say how accurate they are but ohhh you are going to enjoy where the story goes
The dungeon always has a way to the surface, the mana needs to circulate, perhaps it´s similar to breathing. Cleaners are the immune system and we have wondered if there is any form of digestive system. Senshi said that his companions seemed bewitched to enter the dungeon more deeply, allowing it to change configuration so the miners would not find their way back. Doesn't that look like a carnivorous plant or something attracting victims with something they want? If the dungeon had only to avoid intruders to the Golden Kingdom, why would it take measures to attract them? You had wondered if the Mad Mage really controls the dungeon, perhaps it is like a beast kept under control by a tamer, but no matter how far such control goes, it does not alter the nature or the needs of the beast.

As a manga reader watching it, the animation itself was great! I was a bit let down by the changes in script and dialogue (in the spanish dub especially they change some words that really mess up the implications/meanings), since they skipped over a very touching Senshi monologue bit, but otherwise it was good!! The audio design for the screams really elevates the horror of those last moments
Also the voice acting changes for the different races was awesome!

こんなに長い時間、苦悩していたなんて、普段のキュートな彼からは想像もできないです。ライオスは時々無神経な発言をしますが、今回はライオスだからこそセンシを苦しみから解放することができたのだと思います。

This episode gave us quite the whiplash, from tragic backstory to comedic episode within seconds.
I think the author also wanted to emphasize psychological differences between races, Chilchuck as a tall man had much less energetic reactions than usual, Marcille as a halfling looked like a scared rabbit even more than usual. Senshi was already very mellow for a dwarf, as an elf he got useless, without initiative to take up weapons due to the weight but without even bothering about it.
The foreshadowing is strong with this one.

I think they've mentioned the dungeon altering to desires before! I don't recall too well, but something to do with how bathrooms always show up on every floor.
I'm really enjoying your reactions to it all! I'm pretty picky about anime, I find there's just a lot out there I don't vibe with, so it's special when I find one I do. If you haven't checked it out before, I'd just getting Ranking of Kings. I think you'd have a lot of fun reacting to that series in the same way.
To respond to how Laios can be frustrating, this is why it's kinda important to look at Laios through the lense of him obviously being an Autistic character. Laios is sooo obviously Autistic and it adds to why his care and his actions get misinterpreted a lot. He communicates differently due to being Autistic and shows his care in a different way due to being Autistic. However, because of that fact, he often gets misinterpreted by people who aren't Autistic like many in his party. This is because Autistic and Allistic (Not Autistic) people have different communication styles. We communicate differently and so misunderstandings happen a lot due to the different communication styles. Autistic people tend to mostly enjoy communication styles that is more straightforward, blunt, to the point, uses special interest to connect to things around them, and more. But Neurotypical way of communication tends to not be like that and relies on things like subtext, subtle manipulation, and social rules. It makes things complicated because those two styles of communication are much more different. This is why the Double Empathy Problem created by Autistic researcher Damian Milton is soo important because it recognizes how Autistic people tend to be forced to take a majority of the burden of learning how to communicate with Allistic people, but Allistic people mostly don't take the same effort to learn how to communicate with Autistic people.
But that is also why Autistic people tend to mostly communicate better with other Autistic people due to similar communication styles. Like how Falin and Laios are more easily able to communicate as obviously Autistic people because they are super similar in communication styles as Autistic people. Probably not ghosts, since that seems to be exclusive to the Golden Country people (with their curse of immortality), but they might have been zombies at some point !

I want to know why Kensuke didn't change race 🤔 the gang and the griffin changed so why not the sword?
When they stepped in the ring a bunch of spores got released. Presumably it's the spores doing the changing and none of them landed on Kensuke because he was shielded from them.
Okay, just a side note on backstories, One Piece is an exception. One Piece will have you in tears over a dog you met 3 minutes earlier. I have never run into anything else that will do that to you.
That said, Senshi's backstory is pretty damn sad. But hey, now he gets to be an elf. A rare one with facial hair.

I’m honestly a little bit disappointed in how senshi’s backstory was done in the anime. I think the art style of the manga better captured the horror aspect of his experience as well as the contrast against Laois’ attitude. Still came out good but could have been better.
This episode was MUCH better in the manga. i feel like they made laios way more insensitive than he shouldve sounded in this tbh …. he lowkey annoyed me here when i didnt feel like that reading this chaptwr 😞
