The perfect voice for the perfect role
Guys, i don't think the other KIMS are copycats..They have their own version and delivery of the song...the only difference is - NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL...Lea is Lea..And Lea is KIM....but let us give credit to the rest of the KIMS that followed suit, after all, LEA has set the standard and started it all...Without LEA, there will be no MISS SAIGON...Lucky to those who were later named as KIM because all the materials has been laid-out for them to sing and interpret according to their own capabilities... Lea molded everything at first, and the rest tried to give their best. and now, let history speaks for itself..:) PEACE!
i dont think that’s fair tbh. just because she's the original doesn’t mean she's the best, u shouldn’t judge a singer just because of that.

@@Dan-gi6tf sis im not trying to take all that away from lea, she is extremely talented! i was just saying that you should be open to the other kims aswell, and not immediately give the original the gold solely based on the fact that she's the original. however, lea definitely deserves all the credit she gets :)
@@sofie7949 That's true. Originals aren't always the "best". Like in *Wicked* , I won't name anyone. However, in this particular case, it is fair and safe to say that when it comes to Kim, Lea owns the role.

lea's voice has gone more amazing as she got older....
Lea has always been articulate in every word that she sings-- one of her good points ever since she began to open her mouth to sing. Not one slight of wrong diction in performance or two would erase nor stain everything she's done whether or not in theater. I know what you're saying is important too, but I also think Lea has thought about that before.

Lea Salonga's diction is crisp and excellent like Audra McDonald's. The Kims in the current West End revival need to work on theirs.

I think Eva Noblezada does a brilliant job
I saw Eva Noblezada in November 2015 and found her a serviceable Kim. Noblezada was having vocal problems and was noticeably flat in several of Kim's numbers especially I STILL BELIEVE. Her AMERICAN IDOLesque vocals seem to be taxing her and she clearly needs both vocal rest and technique refinement before coming to New York. Noblezada can belt but she needs to work on her head voice so she'll be in better shape by the time she headlines the revival on Broadway.

i think that is what makes her voice so thrilling because when she sings showtunes she becomes the character. Like in this song you can really see the anger pain and love even when she isn't singing it in miss saigon.
No one comes close to the original. All else will be close copycats.
