- So... all things considered, I believe this was the best choice and best performance that I've heard from McKenna in this year's competition. The song itself, plus the manner in which she arranged and performed it, made for a very powerful and memorable moment.
Did you love it, too? Let me know!

7:20 A cosmic moment. I live for moments like this when I sing. On the topic of McKenna's rasp and vocal health there are quite a few videos of McKenna singing at the age of 16 years old. Just do a search on UA-cam typing "McKenna Breinholt cinematic pop" where she sang live with a Symphonic Orchestra and Choir. Some of the songs are "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen), "One" (U2), "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (Nirvana) and "The Sound of Silence". They have garnered millions and millions of views in almost 10 years time span. Back then she sang with a clean tone. So she may have developed nodules or some other vocal health problems since her teenage years.
Very interesting... thanks for the info - I will definitely check it out!
" The Sound of Silence", Simon and Garfunkle.
Katy Perry mentioned being worried about her voice
Loved her performance and her version of this beautiful classic! My favorite of hers thus far.
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
This was the episode I voted for McKenna! Such a beautiful cover 🥰
Thanks for your comment 🤗
Johan, thank you for mentioning McKenna's constant breathiness. She’s beautiful, she’s skilled, and in my opinion she needs vocal coaching or more (e.g., medical intervention) immediately before she does irreparable vocal chord damage. I never hear her NOT breathy - so I don't think she's in control of that breathiness- as you also said, it’s her vocal chords NOT meeting & vibrating like they should, (probably from vocal nodules). Way, way too many complete breaks in phonation. I hope Idol gets her expert help fast, so she can have a long career. She's getting a TON of positive feedback about her "rasp" but I don't here or see much of the concern that you and I feel, unfortunately. Thx for the review!
She can't keep up the rasp as it's obvious, the nodes.
Love her version ty for introducing me to her plus it was a great break down I now have to go play Mozart today
Very few can top Mozart 😅 I appreciate your comment!
I was familiar with Joni Mitchell but not a fan of the song , although I prefer Joni's version.
That shared, i believe she will most likely make it to the 10, though I struggle with pitch/rasp .I congratulate each of these performers for their efforts. Loved your teaching on Mozart /classical with your knowledge. it is lovely to walk away with the joy of listening while gaining insight. I offer you thanks,
I'm familiar with Haley Westenrah's version, which is quite different.

Can a reviewer be strange, weird and interesting at the same time?
I'm so in love with McKenna, amazing voice, so beautiful and incredible life story.. Question I have, is all the singers have the shorten the song. How do they chose what they cut out? How do they remember where to cut it off and start ending it?
