- From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, Al B. Sure’s voice could be heard dominating the airways and dance floors. Singing, however, wasn’t his only talent. He’d also prove to be quite the song writer and producer whose touch helped shape the sound and style of new jack swing. But as the genre lost its swagger, so did Al, sending him into a spiral that jeopardized his career, his relationships and even his life.

Al did to Quincy what was done to him by his father. Al's story is a tale of why we have to get help for our childhood traumas, so we don't repeat history.
Human beings are very strange indeed. I recall how much this man resented his father for not being there for him and how much he loved his mother. He has his own children and turns out treating his legacy the way he disliked being treated. It's very hard for us as human beings to see the err of our own ways, yet we're so hard on others. I pray all families can find a way to do better. This is a painful thing for children and parents.

My big sister and I saw the video for the first time back in '88. She had an instant crush on him and even met him decades later! I STILL have In Effect Mode on cassette. Missunderstanding, Right Now and the Bowie collaboration Black Tie, White Noise are my other FAVES from him. Kim Porter and Al B. Sure! were such a cute couple. 😔❤️ I feel for Quincy. i was a kid when Al B. Sure was at his peak, but "Night and Day" and his other hits were all over the radio. I'm glad he's doing well. The Quincy part (and naming Puffy as his father figure/mentor) took me out, I wasn't ready.
