This song is actually about a woman in Oslo, 30 years ago, which used to stand on the street corners and scream very loud that we all need to care about our earth. At the time she was looked upon as a weirdo so no one dared to approach her. So ”For Vår Jord” means, for our earth! No one imagined at the time that she actually was way ahead of our time. What happened to the woman later no one knows. 😢
Thanks for the translation. We never get any info on music. Norway has some good singers and composers: Ketil Stokken is another. The composer is well known from 1978 Oliver.
The official translation makes it lose all meaning. It needs to be literally translated to get its actual message across: No one knows Her name No one dares To get too close There she stands With loud, strong words And big big eyes We never meet with ours She sees into fallen worlds You'd think she's out of her mind (Ref.) She's one who keeps watch at the flame For our earth One who holds the branches together For our earth She understands that earth gives birth to all (Stand guard) For our earth We all look Away from her Small talk dies out We exchange clances and smile Her screams are without skin From mother earth she carries the message in: (Ref) ------- The song is about a real woman who stood by the Oslo subway screaming at passers by, a gentle doomsayer, and how she got ignored by everyone until she died.
Maybe better than Dion and Rybak but not Nocturne. Any Norwegian you ever ask will have Secret Garden's Nocturne as their favourite Norwegian ESC entry. This is for me, and many others, #2 though :P
One of the best Norwegian entries in ESC ever......

That’s actually so sad

It's a nice story, but it's not true. This woman has never existed.
Beautiful song. One of my all time Eurovision favourites.

I love this song!
Great song in excellent quality - it was the 4th Eurovision song I saw in my life.
A wonderful song who gets better and better through the years
Wonderful

No one knows
Her name
No one dares
To get too close
There she stands
With loud, strong words
And big big eyes

One who holds the branches together
For our earth

We all look
Away from her
Small talk dies out
We exchange clances and smile
Her screams are without skin
From mother earth she carries the message in:

Blir aldri lei av denne sangen
Great song from Norway
Best of Norway, better than Fairytale and Celine Dion 1988! :)

Ballads weren't popular in the 80's. 10 years later it would have won easily.
certainly better than life
