  • Sometimes the USB connector gets broken off. Hopefully you can solder a new one on. If not, then you guys using CP2102 boards have it pretty easy. Those of you using a VCP board will have to do an extra step.

    First of all thank you. Thanks to you I’ve learned and fixed a lot without buying new equipment. I have a Bardwell F4 aio that’s only reading 7v in the osd and on BF. I’ve tested with voltage and it has 16+ voltage on the solder pads and to the first diode closest to the positive battery pad.

    Absolutely the most helpful video set on youtube to date. I was here on this channel last week and I'm back again! Still doesn't help if I don't fiollow the instruction set to the letter...this time I will turn on an extra MSP on a spare uart, seem to have at least one extra set! Thank you to those family members and youtube for allowing this channel to continue to be available.

    Hello, I tried this method and still wasn't able to connect to my board. The USB port of mine isn't technically broken off, but a peace of a flower was inside the Port and on connection it went up in smoke. After that I couldn't connect it. I use an betaflightF4 board, the build in OSD still works and my remote can connect to the board, but arming the copter does not work. Is there a way I can know for sure, that my board is broken?

    Hello, great video..I have a HGLRC F4 flight controller and Betaflight (10.4.0) was reachable till I made a misconnection.
    I tried a TTL USB converter on a free UART(6) first to resolve the "broken USB" without any result, therefore now on UART1 where originally MSP was enabled. COM4 port is active when I plug the USB with converter, Betaflight is trying to connect then reconnecting, so I cannot acces the setup.
    Do You thing that the FC damaged or what is Your suggestion?
    I can measure huge resistance on 3V (impulsing that the CPU could be alive), and the LEDs are lighting/flashing when connecting through battery or on UART6 with USB converter.
    Thanks in advance for Your help.

    I came across one of your videos the other day that talked about a flight controller serial port not connecting to BetaFlight, but can't find it now. In the video, you mentioned about downloading the three files find on the BetaFlight home page, but you also mentioned another download that fixed the problem. What is the name of the other file (not located on BetaFlight) that will fix the serial port connection problem?

      Mr. Harris - JC (the gentleman who made these helpful videos) sadly passed away last year in a motorcycle accident. However, I believe the software you're looking for is called "zadig." It's what I used to make my computer "see" my flight controller. Flite Test has a video series that (as far as I recall) uses it, in their FT 270 quad build. Best of luck to you.

I have 2 boards, the first one is from ebay SP RACING F3 EVO brush Flight Controller, and the second one is from banggood Eachine 32Bit Acro Naze32 brush Flight Controller, the starting issue was done by me I flashed the firmeware in betaflight without jumping the boot pads. Now I got the ST-Link V2 and I erased and I uploaded a new firmeware, it did work but still unable to connect on betaflight. I think I'm flashing thw wrong firmeware, I use the Naze32 firmeware is it the correct one for my boards? Thanks.

    Great vid JC, could you do a tutorial for PIDs ? from scratch maybe just holding a quad in your hand saying if if does this in flight you need to alter this kinda thing. I've tried setting up a 450 quad just to simply hover and its gone from flying like a crazy wasp to carrying a bowl of soup. I just look at it now on the self, and ask it....Whats wrong with you.! There is no need to have the FTDI usbasp adapter if you have Omnibus F3 AIO V1.1, usb to TTL is sufficient. Just connect 5V to any 5V on F3, GND to any GND on F3, TX to UART1 RX and RX to UART 1 TX. Make sure all options are on and manual baud rate is set to 256k. Load the hex you have downloaded and connect the usb to ttl adapter to computer. The flashing process should start. After sucessfull flashing, you should be able to connect to the PC using the UART1 via usb to TTL adapter ;)... Enjoy

    I did find a solution to how you can Flash a new Firmware on your FC over a UART with a FTDI Adapter if you have an FC with VCP
    My Setup is a Kakute F7 (with VCP and broken USB Port) and a FTDI232RL connected to UART1 (MSP enabled - standard enabled on inav Version

    • @Almost787
      @Almost787 5 років тому

      I tried it again with a different flash util and it worked. So if you have a newer Version like my Kakute F7 with VCP and did manage to break the Port off but one of your uart is MSP enabled (thank you inav for still have UART1 enabled), then you'll connect your FTDI Adapter (I use an FTDI232RL) and Connect it up like JC showed in his video (the first FC). Configuration via Betaflight/inav should work without a problem. But If you want to flash a new version (be careful if a new Version could disable an Uart and you'll lock you out!) you'll have to use a special flasher: I used the STM32 Flash Loader (for flashing with FTDI) kiss.flyduino.net/download/stm32-flash-loader-for-flashing-via-ftdi/

    • @Almost787
      @Almost787 5 років тому

      How to flash:
      1) Install STM32 Flash loader
      2) Connect your FTDI and your FC (VCC - VCC, RX - TX, TX - RX, GND - GND)
      3) Plug your FTDI Adapter into your Computer and also press your boot button on your FC (entering DFU Mode)
      4) Start the STM32 Flash Loader - If your FTDI and FC aren't connect at the Startup of the Flash Loader Util you won't see any Com ports and have to restart the Flash Util
      5) Press next (and read what the UTIL Windows Say!) until you are in the Window for Download und Upload from Device/File (see screenshot & also a possible download for the tool from kiss.flyduino.n et/download/stm32-flash-loader-for-flashing-via-ftdi/)
      6) go to Download to device and select your hex file
      7) press next and wait - after the flash has finished, you should unplug the FTDI from the Computer and then replug it (reboot the FC). After that step you can start your Configurator (inav in my Case) and connect to your FC. Check if the Version that is output in the Configurator console log is the version you wanted.
