Dec 14 update: The cool/warm inconsistency is fixed! BUT what still isn't fixed: - The thing with the same color, but different sliders. Even if you save the color as new, the kid will always get the default version of that color, with slider right in the middle. - The problem that Cindy (Pleasant Sims) showed: that if one Sim has e.g. skin number 10 from cool and the other has skin number 10 from warm - the child will get either one or the other, nothing in between. Somehow the game doesn't know how to cope with skins that are in the same place of different categories? That's really weird, because if you have random skins from warm and cool (or neutral), the child will get either section + either shade in between the parents.
Yes and Sims 4 superfans try to defend this mistake by saying "I just love how unpredictable the Sims 4 genetics are!" haha. This is no joke, I made a thread about it in the Sims 4 forums and this is what people said LMAO
Something that really annoys me are freckles. I think they never get passed down to kids and I think that sims don't even keep their freckles as they age up from toddlers to children and from children to teens. Just another thing that will probably never be fixed.
I've had freckles passed down in my game. Can't remember if it translates from toddler to child to teen, but I've definitely had toddlers inherit freckles.
@@FriendshipIsMagic1998 interesting! I've had this issue with a family with eight children, none of them had freckles when they were toddlers, so that was really annoying

Idk, I rarely make men and even rarely black Sims. I almost always make Europeans or Asians (I'm northern European myself, part of the only indigenous people there)
I play multiracial families, before the update 8 out of 10 times my kids would come out white with the rare occasion of being black or mixed, but I assumed it was b.c there were more lighter tones to land on then there were darker tones, so the percentage of a child born between a light and dark parent would always have a higher chance of being born lighter. Now after the update, I tried it out with the darkest skin tone in cool and the lightest skin tone in warm. My child is only offered two tones after 20 randomize clicks, and both are light. They come out either warm on the 2nd row as the 2nd palest or neutral 1st row 2nd palest. I switched the darkest cool to the darkest warm to see if maybe the issue is that they are not in the same tone pool. 20 random spins later and the skin tone of my child stays at 100% lightest warm tone. If I darken the lightest parent a little, then I am offered a 2nd tone that at least gave my kid a tan. lol I changed many sims in certain worlds to not be so pale and made some in certain places extremely pale, sadly I'll have to go grab a lot of my pale sims and make them darker so they can have a shot at producing a mixed kid.
Cindy from Pleasantsims made a video about genetics comparison recently in which she pointed out some things you're saying in here and yeah, learning about some genetic bugs in Sims 4, like the eyes bug, was an amazing discovery for me. I don't play Sims 4 myself but oh God, now I have another reason to not play this game.
it would be awesome if the sims could add to cas an update with like a massive overhaul of hair like the skin tone update also an option to choose hair texture within styles? so you pick a style and then choose straight, wavy, curly, kinky, braided or dreaded not my idea just putting it out there
The eye genetics might be trying to mirror reality since the exact shade is very rarely passed down. Our family has a parent with light blue eyes and a parent with medium brown eyes. The three children have dark brown eyes, grey eyes, and light blue eyes respectively. Passing down a different shade of a similar colour is quite common.
And now Reaper's Rewards added a new eye colour (feline eyes, they're quite cool imo), and that one actually works genetically, while the old ones from an early patch remain broken after all these years.
I think they should make it so you can set up natural hair colors and unnatural hair color. Also all hair colors should be available for both natural and unnatural
I think that after playing with genetics the child will always have skin color with the default (middle) lightness. Few months ago I bought Sims 4 on Steam and then I connected steam with my Origin, I installed the game in the new steam location and after that via Origin I installed all packs in the same folder, when I started the game I had all my packs (I couldn't open the game from the old location so I deleted it), luckily document folder stays the same so my saves where safe. Now I can play in all languages (not only in Polish, Czech and Russian) with all my packs. So when you buy Sims 4 on Steam you can "transfer" all packs from Origin. So I can buy new packs on Steam or Origin.
I had my spellcaster with white eyes and made story to it that she is blind. Then she had a daughter who as a toddler had also white eyes, so I thought she can be blind too, but once she grew up to kid stage she got father's brown eyes and I couldn't switch to white as they were not available for kids (but were for toddlers). I didn't know if I wanted the daughter get her vision back by some odd miracle or just ignore she can see as a child and switch to white when she become teen. It annoys me and I left this save for now.
I think many people don't take notice of the eye colours in detail, and to be frank, I didn't mind the eye colours issue either, because everyone in my real family has different eyes (both parents have different shade of blue/grey, so we probably just have loads of recessive genes in our family pool) and I felt dominant genes were overdone in Sims 2, honestly. BUT the messy skin tone genetics are too obvious, people won't let that go.
I don't want to be THE negative person but I'm not updating. Nice looking skin won't fix the fact there's no gameplay. And last time I updated my game broke so bad it took weeks for my IT Engineer friend to fix it.
Yea I stopped playing the sims 4 years ago. I know there’s a bunch of mods that improves their game but I shouldn’t have to rely on a bunch of mods to make the game fun
Idk if this is something, but ok, I make two sims, both with pretty unique faces and features, but when a kid comes out, and they age, you can see that they look like just like a “normal” sim, THE KIDS DONT INHERIT THE PARENTS FEATURES! And even if you make different families, every single kid, will be the same! I don’t understand, it’s just something I’ve noticed on my game, and that is bugging me.
For the hair problem if I have a sim with unnatural colour I usually go into cas full edit mode with the kid right after a birthday to a toddler. Turn it around (so I don't see the face, cuz I also don't like genetics spoilers) and age them up to a teen and see the colour of the hair so I can set the natural colour that the parent used to have. The alien/mermaid hair tho- I don't have a solution for that (tho I usually do unnatural colours only on mermaid form and that isn't available for kids anyway and aliens I usually make bold. Idk I think that hair on aliens looks like a wig. So I don't really need them)

I have a question. It is my understanding that you mainly play the sims 4 on your polish channel. I want to see you play the sims 4 as well so would you happen to have english subtitles on your polish channel? It's fine if you don't
Oh Marta, you have no idea how thankful I am for your review 🙌! It seems like most people instantly forgave EA their skintone fauxpas when these released, and I really hate to be that peson, but half of the skintones still don't look natural/good to me. Especially the cooler ones. It just grinds my gears so much. People waited 6 years for this and they can't even get the genetic aspect of their skintones right? Good God, this games is such a mess.
Sims 3 would just make your sims into clones of each other as the generation went by. I like 3, but I really miss the genetics of 2 where genetics were really strong.
All I will say is sims 4 was doing a little bit better until this which is the biggest palmface I've had in forever about a sims update, literally all this time I was thinking "I hope they take genetics in mind with this skin update, anyways I don't think they're that stupid to completly forget about it" LITERALLY.
The genetics problem I've noticed in The Sims 4 that bothers me the most is that after 1-3 generations already, and the problem gets even worse later on... almost all the kids (mine and from townies, when they age up) have very narrow shoulders, hips and a narrow body frame in general, they seem veery thin, even though the fatness bar is always right in the middle at 50%. But for some reason their body shape changes like that..
This could help a little: mysims4blog.blogspot.com/2015/08/no-more-weird-body-shapes-by-arienli.html It stops townies from generating with "pear" body shapes, so at least they won't give that gene to their offspring.

wow... this is so lacking... It's weird because >every< game that had a huge following, like world of warcraft, fallout 3/fallout new vegas, sims 2/sims 3 - is messing so much up for themselves at the moment. Sims 4 is and has always been lacking in everything if u compare. The new fallout MMO is chaotic and has always been. World of warcraft's last expansion is, according to metascore the worst they ever put out. Crazy! Ion like this
A day late but just putting it out there. They don't care about genetics because they aren't focused on generational players This game is designed to be tinkered in like a phone game to play dress up and close until the next dlc gives you new assets to dress up the house or sim I mean their idea if a normal lifespan gives no time at all
So, while it is refreshing to see such a wide range of skin tones and undertones- but that darkest cool tone you showed was pathetic. As you were scrolling through… You could notice the depth of everyone’s face, and then once you got to those darker tones… It look like someone just took a Crayola and colored it in. Where is the depth and the lighting? And if that’s what it looks like in Cas, how does it look in the game?
CAS Junkies, Yes? Oh, FUNCTIONALITY? PFFF I ONLY SEE PEOPLE STREAMING HOW TO MAKE SIMS, YOU THINK I'M GONNA THINK ABOUT *gEnEtIcS*? We're not even supposed to Have another family update ;) -Some Sim developer Skins are broken, they need to consider this a BUG. >Lol bet they'll leave it as is This all wouldn't happen. if we DIDN't have Swatches to begin with; or Switched it over to a regular color wheel.
Complains when the skin tone is not like that of either parent. Complains when skin tone is exactly mid-way between that of the parents. OK, I accept that Sims 4 genetics is not exactly like real genetics; it doesn't do recessive traits. But what does recessive trait mean in practice? It means that sometimes a person inherits a trait from grandparents or great-grandparents that isn't present in either parent. So the child doesn't necessarily look like either parent, or even like a mix between the two. How is that different from what the Sims does deliver? 11:40 "at least you would know which colour comes from which parent" - That is NOT how real genetics works. See above. 11:55 "In the Sims 4 you can be anything, but you can't be a purple-haired kid" - In real life, a lot of schools have rules about kids turning up with dyed hair. I know, real life sucks. 13:30 "I would have to .. just choose some kind of colour in between the parents .. to determine the genetics" - That's not how real genetics works either. The problem isn't genetics. The problem is what it has always been, that Sims 4 children tend to look nothing like their eventual adult form. The underlying code is different, so the options are different, so the appearance is different. This isn't something which could be fixed by a skin-tone patch or a genetics patch. In the Sims I like to adopt, mainly because the adopted child can have any skin tone and IT DOESN'T MATTER. None of the other Sims freak out about it. I think the real world would be a more beautiful place if it too could be like that. "I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character", to culturally-appropriate a phrase. Unfortunately Sims 4 still falls down a little on the latter, but that's something for another comment on another day. I think the Sims team were right to not make skin tone a priority, and they should still be focusing on areas that are more lacking, such as gameplay and bug-fixes, because no matter what they do with skin tone they will never make people happy. In fact the more they do, the more unhappy their intended audience will become. It is a never-ending treadmill for them.
Holy cow, I never imagined reading such a generationally boomer comment on a sims 4 genetics video. You're not wrong about some of your point but dang, phrasing is abrasive and jarring.
It's a game. Put the skin yourself. We spend hours in CAS and you're telling me genetics are wrong bc the skin is different but you can just... change it? Oh my God, stop complaining. They gave us 100 skin tones for fictional characters. Just. Play. Stop noticing every little detail like you spend all your game just looking at your sims's freckles.
Just play the game? Well, yes, but genetics are part of gameplay. If someone pays attention to that, gameplay won't be satisfying to them. It really is simple.
@@Marticore genetics are part of the gameplay, of course! My point is that you can change the skin yourself, it can be easily fixed if you don't like that random skintone and still enjoy every part of the body that was generated with genetics
@JustALane I agree with you, it's annoying because we pay for a complete game. But this is a new generation of games with updates and stuff, a game is never finished. EA is complicated tho, they have a lot of issues with a lot of their games besides the sims, and I think that's why they don't pay attention to a little detail like genetics from just one game. The sim with the blonde hair is giving me strong NikkieTutorials vibes 🥰🥰🥰
They don't really care for generations and family gameplay
Yeah when you move the sliders you have to save the skintone
Oh Marta, you have no idea how thankful I am for your review 🙌! It seems like most people instantly forgave EA their skintone fauxpas when these released, and I really hate to be that peson, but half of the skintones still don't look natural/good to me. Especially the cooler ones. It just grinds my gears so much. People waited 6 years for this and they can't even get the genetic aspect of their skintones right? Good God, this games is such a mess.
All the more reason to like Sims 3.
Sims 3 would just make your sims into clones of each other as the generation went by. I like 3, but I really miss the genetics of 2 where genetics were really strong.
This looks like it might of been an oversight hopefully they'll fix it in a patch
This could help a little: mysims4blog.blogspot.com/2015/08/no-more-weird-body-shapes-by-arienli.html
It stops townies from generating with "pear" body shapes, so at least they won't give that gene to their offspring.
But what u did to make ur randomizer sims not being too ugly? Looks like mod or something?
Luck. No mods were used in this video :D
How I deal with it: My family is multi-racial and polygamous and we just pretend we're waiting to find out who the father is.
new marticores video wooooow
✨so how the hell✨
I don’t know what I think I liked the video though
Violet eyes can be natural too. Caused by being partially albino.
On my computer the light cool tones just look purple and it looks so weird. Help
Wow nauczylem sie kd ciebie niektorych slowek z angieslkiego
wow... this is so lacking...
They don't care about genetics because they aren't focused on generational players
This game is designed to be tinkered in like a phone game to play dress up and close until the next dlc gives you new assets to dress up the house or sim
I mean their idea if a normal lifespan gives no time at all
The Sims 2 is the best and the most iconic. Don't deal with it.
Pfft genetics in sims 4
So, while it is refreshing to see such a wide range of skin tones and undertones- but that darkest cool tone you showed was pathetic. As you were scrolling through… You could notice the depth of everyone’s face, and then once you got to those darker tones… It look like someone just took a Crayola and colored it in. Where is the depth and the lighting? And if that’s what it looks like in Cas, how does it look in the game?
CAS Junkies, Yes?
Oh, FUNCTIONALITY?
PFFF
I ONLY SEE PEOPLE STREAMING HOW TO MAKE SIMS, YOU THINK I'M GONNA THINK ABOUT
*gEnEtIcS*? We're not even supposed to Have another family update ;)
-Some Sim developer
Skins are broken, they need to consider this a BUG.
>Lol bet they'll leave it as is
This all wouldn't happen.
if we DIDN't have Swatches to begin with; or Switched it over to a regular color wheel.
I would love some actual genetics in the sims 4. It would be cool
Reads the title: (trust me no one cares)
Me: 👁👄👁 oh yes we do
I thought, that the Sims 4 would have enough stuff wrong with it to make a video go a hour long.
I don't think the eye color thing is a bug.
It is, still not fixed
I care
Sims 4 is a fucking lost cause. Thank God for Sims 2.
honestly are we even surprised the new patch is like this? 🥱
It’s times like these that make me glad I pirated the game.
EA give people what they wanted, more skin tones, people never asked for genetics, they are billionarie company with hundreds of employees not genies.
Lol Sim Guru's didnt do their science assignments
Delicricy posted about it
I think that you can't be albino with dark skin xD
Of course you can!
You can. Though as far as I know black people with albino still have light skin.
Yes, their skin is a lot lighter than for non-albino black people, but they're not pale
I happen to think sims 4 genetics is great
It's a game.
I would like to have a good genetics system, believe me, but I can fix it really fast lmao
@@Nobodyhere001 I'm not defending anyone I'm just saying stop complaining about fucking little details. We both know it fucking sucks but these kind of bullshit complainings are so easy to fix and don't even bother the main objetive of the game.
@@lmao9388 why are you complaining then?? Take your own advice if you’re unhappy just shut the f up and move on.
