I genuinely would be so interested in photos from a film set where the photographer takes pictures in which the cast acts like they are being photographed in the actual world of the movie in character.
Hostile characters would maybe be in the midst of attacking or intimidating and so on.. The Photographer could tell their own view of the story with the pictures..
I feel like these images come close to that idea, but there is still so much untapped potential in the concept!:)
Congrats on getting your channel monetized! Yours is by far my favorite photography channel!

This is exactly what on set photograpres in the 80s did. All of the original star wars bubblegum cards were promo photos taken my the set photog, rather than frame grabs from the films like later images. Somwehere along the way the artistry and storytelling seemed to leave the on set photo scene, maybe as cheap hacks took over the photog roles. Or maybe they were briefed by boring pople and/or not allowed the time to do theor job well.

Jojo did an amazing job and you are right, the vibe and people staying somewhat in character brings a phenomenally hard to explain photograph that everyone can enjoy. The fallout universe in interesting and wacky, these photos show off how people playing the games imagine the world they are immersing themselves in and to finally see props/items/people in the context like Jojo was really in the world is so surreal and fascinating. Every image she shot looks unique and perfect utilizing film, it's incredibly hard to explain but the vibe and methods are just perfectly complementary to eachother.

I think the story was that Amazon put out the straight scans before she had a chance to do any post on them. I still dig them and for me it would have been a dream assignment. Thankfully, in the autumn of my years, I am able to celebrate others photographic successes.

To me these photos are nothing special, just square pictures with random flat composition with a bland and low contrasty look. Could even be taken with a phone camera and look just the same except for a bit shallower DoF on some of them (and of course if blown up on something bigger than Instagram the low resolution of a phone would become more apparent).

Well I've always adored square format ever since coming across the work of Diane Arbus and I've spent 20+ years shooting square medium format myself, so yes, to me they are magic. I see sort of little things within the compostitons, like the framing for the SD mart logo in the top left of one of the the Lucy/Ella portraits. My adoration for this work is totally subjective, but that's the same for all art, isn't it? For me it's the idea of using a camera that exists in a sci-fi world to make the film stills on, that's the gnarly thing. For sure historically loads of film still work was made on 120 but not anymore. It's the following of the rules/world of the TV show/game that make the use of medium format so interesting to me.

@gurratell7326, I’m sure photographers that you like might evoke the same reaction from others. just because you don’t like it doesn’t not make it special

@@PicturesOnMyMind Yeah square photos can of course look really nice! And I bet these looks way better on something bigger than Instagram or my laptop screen where you can appreciate the image quality that medium format can deliver.
And of course art is subjective, so I don't take it away from you that you like these, I just wanted to share my opinion the same way that you shared yours :)

Flat and boring images, but shot on film so of course they get more praise than they should.
