Pretty close to a dream bench right here. I really wish they had a wide 11.5 - 12" pad version with a little more grip. Don't need Rogue level grip, but just a bit more friction. Ideally, you could attach pads on both sides that ran along the full length of the back pad to basically make the width adjustable, kind-of like the elbow pads but way longer. Right now the pad and the price are deal-breakers for me. Also, the option to have the short pad with a removable extension pad that's long enough for 6ft+ decline would be great, so you still have the advantage of the short pad for some of the movements but also keep the longer pad option when desired. Best of both worlds. Still, thoroughly impressed with how much versatility and engineering went into this and made it work as well as it does!
This was my number 1 bench option until budget stepped in. The Getrxd bench fidab 2 has been awesome but when the ecosystem of the prime bench expands a bit more I'm extremely likely to pick this up. Such s great bench. Thanks for the review!
I almost went with the shorty bench myself but after taking a closer look I wasn’t going to get any new exercises out of it that I can’t do some other way, and I couldn’t swallow spending that much on a bench that out of the box doesn’t stand upright. Opted for the wide Rep AB-5200 which I’m happy with.
I rather have a bench that I can do inclines, declines, and flat bench presses on, and I do. This looks more like an expensive Swiss Army knife of exercise benches, which is o.k., but something I don't want or need.
@@GlucksGym I think I may end up buying this then. Having a gym space built and need a bench i and my girl can move easily. I also like the 30 degree decline you don’t really need more than that. And being able to do tri ext seated is a plus. It’ll also save me space as I was getting a separate machine for preacher and leg curl
@@GlucksGym I really hope they do!! One question what do you think about putting hex dumbbells on the bench between sets? What is your take on it? Should i stop doing it and put them on the floor?
Out of genuine interest, what is the benefit of having no gap between the seat and the bench? Does it make a difference in comfort or is it a gimmick that gym equipment enthusiasts like?
In older benches the gaps could be quite large. That could make exercises awkward as you kind of get stuck in the gap. In more modern benches it's become much less of a factor.
Seems like everything today has gone full blown overboard... Like an $80,000.00 pickup just to take to work to bang-up, dent and wear out... I've been lifting on and off for decades... First thing I went to Sears and bought a DP Olympic bench with a leg attachment (which I still have in storage) with DP plates, DP curl bars, DP Tri-bars also (which I still have and use today)... Seven years ago my son informed me that I was falling apart so off to Walmart I went... Bought a $99.00 Golds bench with a leg attachment, Golds spin lock dumbbell set, Gold's plates, CAP plates and Weider Plates which I like the best... I finally wrecked the leg attachment broke the welds... So off to Walmart again, bought a CAP Squat rack FM-905SR, a KURONO GT-617 bench and a HARISON HR-609 bench... All on sale... Ooooh, a cheap preacher bench which I hate and is junk... Arm pad too narrow, bar rack too narrow, thin tubing, tippy and horrible welds... Luv the KURONO bench minor flaw the feet need to be wider... Harrison a all welded frame rugged leg attachment but has three minor design flaws but still a rugged bench... CAP squat not bad I like it... I'm very fit and tone I get compliments all the tyme... I don't plan on competing or benching 500 lbs. I'm in it to stay healthy, fit and tone AND didn't SPEND a fortune to do it... Ooooh, my pickup is a '98 Ranger which I luv and it still meets all my needs and truck requirements, ciao...
You're telling me. I loaded up the cart with the bench and attachments and it was $1700 or so before shipping. This is also in US dollars, and before customs, so if I got this bench it would end up being $3000 CAD. I could get 2 Rogue Manta Rays or 3 Blackwings for that.
Couldn't have come at a better time because I've been about to pull the trigger several times in the last few days for this and Prime's prodigy rack just based on the centering device.
@@protectork9831 I mentioned I bought and paid for this in the vid. Regardless of whether we get things for free or not (we haven't done sponsored vids) our review don't change.
Gluck, you gotta review the Keppi Bench 5000! It has to be included in any round-up of benches on the market right now given the value proposition compared to anything priced remotely close. Also, you should check out the GearForFit Freestanding Leg Extension/Curl Attachment. Should work with just about any bench, has an angled plate peg to get some resistance at the start of the movement, centered plate peg to distribute load evenly across both legs, numerous adjustment points, and seems reasonably well-made.
With it going on and off the market as they battle lawsuits from ripping off a lot of different elements I'm not sure it's something I really want to review. 1) because I'm giving a lot of exposure to a company that's blatantly stealing and 2) because these videos take many hours to create and that's a lot of time to waste for a product that may disappear once again. I'll look into Gear For Fit but they're kind of a reseller of whitelabled gear that can be bought from various places.
@@GlucksGym That's totally fair and understandable. Appreciate the explanation. I just feel like almost every company takes ideas from others at some point (like the whole PRx Halo arms drama), it's almost impossible to remain innocent if you get big enough. Especially with pretty ubiquitous items that are relatively straightforward like a bench. If someone can make basically the same thing and sell it for significantly less and it's still pretty dang good then that implies there is likely a much larger profit margin being taken at the expense of the consumers for the more expensive choice and people should be aware there is an alternative option available. I know engineering costs are high (I'm an engineer myself and recently worked for one of the largest fitness equipment brands in the world) but, having lived both a privileged and poverty level life, man I feel for people who can't afford the premium stuff but want to live their best fit/healthy life and I think they still deserve access to good quality & versatile equipment if possible you know? Now I don't know for sure how good the Keppi Bench 5000 is since I don't have one, that's why we need a review!! 😆But from what I've seen people really like it and it seems it could be a great choice for many people! I really like the way ATG Equipment (a.k.a KneesOverToesGuy) handles this. He doesn't care if people rip off his designs, he just tries to make the best products he can for the lowest possible price and if someone else makes it as good or better for less he says that's good because ultimately it means more people have access to better products. He doesn't bother legally pursuing anyone AFAIK. The way I see it, if companies didn't spend so much money on legal expenses, they could probably lower the prices of their products and make health & fitness more accessible to more people and end up in basically the same place in terms of revenue/profits while simultaneously helping more people since they aren't needing higher profit margins to then expend on legal pursuits to stifle competition. Also, many products go off the market eventually and new start-up brands with unproven track records can suddenly fail yet still get coverage. So I wouldn't let the fear of a product disappearing eventually prevent you from covering something that seems like a great option for many people. Plus, there are plenty of old review videos for benches and other products or even entire companies that are no longer for sale, still great that they were covered at the time. Anyway, just my thoughts, I'm no expert and I'm sure there's lots I'm missing, capitalism, competition, and intellectual property is complex. Especially at the global scale. I'm just super passionate about home fitness and lifting weights and want to help as many people as possible to get access by finding the items that provide as much as possible for the cost. Totally respect your views and the hard work and dedication you put into this content, I could never do what you do so please keep it up!! I love the channel and look forward to your videos every week! PS: Yea GearForFit does seem like a white-label brand for many products, but I haven't seen anyone else have their Freestanding Leg Extension/Curl attachment and it actually seems pretty unique and well-designed and people always want that type of attachment for their benches so I thought it would be a cool thing to cover!
I wanted to purchase this bench awhile back, however they did not have a vertical stand which I really needed due to limited space. I purchased the Straydog Alpha bench with all the bells and whistles, however it weighs approximately 125 pounds and moving it around grows old very quickly trust me. When they come out with the vertical stand I may sell my rep fitness 5200 bench and buy the shorty bench for my alternative bench. (also my wife can use the shorty) The only issues I have with all the attachments on the shorty bench is where to store all this stuff? I have the Sorinex bulldog pad and that takes up valuable space in my gym. LOL. BTW I like those Kensui calibrated plates you have, I may have to buy some of those to help save space on the barbell.
I have the shorty but not the prime storage system. I use Amazon hooks and just put these on the wall. Cost maybe 10 bucks? Just need a couple of long double hook and a couple of others to support the side from flipping. It’s a 10 minutes jobs. :)
I do have this bench for now, maybe 2y? Got it first after winning the “Prime Mystery Prize” (insert thunder SFX here) on the GCC. It’s the first time wify said : how your homegym is finally useful for something… The fedex guy when he saw me said, thank god… you’re there to help me. We manage to bring that crate into my tiny front door… I assembled there… But man, me and wify had to bring that bitch into the garage… I live in Canada, we have a ton of white fuckery everywhere. We struggle like two idiots to bring it right in front of the garage and wify said “fuck this shit” and left me there to finish the job by myself with my “toy”. Nevertheless, I had a ton of experience in commercial gym with commercial quality bench, my only homegym experience was with a Marcy deathtrap and BOS FID3.0. Of all the bench I ever tried (excluding technogym because technogym sucks asses), this is my favorite bench so far. Not that the BOS FID3.0 is bad, it’s a super good bench for the price I’ve paid, but man… the Shorty just kills everything. It’s a little under specs for powerlifting (17.5 vs 18” height), but I’m a short bastard and don’t compete. For preacher curls, I found that sticking the beak of the seat pad right under the longer pad (passed the last adjustment point) is the perfect spot for the short bastard. I don’t know, it’s maybe me? (5’4”) Other than this, my favorite exercise with it is placing the bench at a 90 degree angle, removing the top pad and do chest supported rows on my freemotion. I found the vinyl a bit thin (i got a bad scratch on the top pad on the back…) and yeah it could be more grippy, but I sincerely never had issue when benching or with anything else. Super damn sturdy too, it does not rock! Man, I do wish I could store it upright. It’s one of the first thing I’ve tried with it and almost chopped a toe 😢 Other than this, after two years I can say that this bench will stay in the gym forever. I still use the BOS FID 3.0, but now its mostly the bench for the leg curl/ext attachment I’ve bought (from a small company Gear for fit in Ontario, its like the buzzsaw attachment but made to fit any bench, its one of a kind bitch but works damn well) as the Prime is dedicated to the bench rack and the functional trainer (I have another rack dedicated to squat, but that you don’t want to hear about it). Btw, it looks stunning in neon Prime green… Go for the trap bar next!!!!!!!! (I heard there’s something cooking in the Rock’s kitchen)
The shorty features are overrated. Every bench, first of all is a dumbbell preacher bench. So there goes the importance of that feature. Prime’s benches are too narrow and they don’t have a notch for 50 or 55 degrees. WHY? W, Manta Ray. I say that as an owner of two Prime adjustable benches.

Are the roller pads for decline softer then Reps? The one for Rep fitness are rock hard and very uncomfortable to use on the blackwing.
Doesn't the seat hurt the way it sticks out over the backpad on inclines? Also why do some benches have cages and others like this don't?
How is the leg roller quality compared to the Blackwing and Manta Ray?
Can you do Nordic curls on this bench?
Awesome review as usual. Unpopular opinion. The prime green is nooooo good. 😅
A Bench has to fulfil one criteria to be commercial. It has to be so fing heavy that moving it is a workout by it self.
This is a very pricey bench/item, that I genuinely think is worth the money
2:45 No I don’t know what you’re talking about. My buns are too tight to make contact with the hinge😅
ATX is the GOAT
Why no 15 degrees? This degree is present on other benches.
This was my number 1 bench option until budget stepped in. The Getrxd bench fidab 2 has been awesome but when the ecosystem of the prime bench expands a bit more I'm extremely likely to pick this up. Such s great bench. Thanks for the review!
It's been 84 years since your last review
Wait until that baby comes 😂😭
Lets go Gluck.
Is this the thirsd kid coming? congrats for both of you and the all family, much blessings and peace man, enjoy the fam.
@@mr.o5577 he's due and day now. We actually filmed this a few weeks back
@@GlucksGymcongrats to you and the Mrs then! Good luck!
Damn I just sold my 5200. Zero gap and saw this. When is the leg ext supposed to drop?
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say but before the end of September 😉
@@GlucksGym I think I may end up buying this then. Having a gym space built and need a bench i and my girl can move easily. I also like the 30 degree decline you don’t really need more than that. And being able to do tri ext seated is a plus. It’ll also save me space as I was getting a separate machine for preacher and leg curl
Nice gym…wow
versatility is king 🤴
Thanks for the review. It was very informative.
Will the Rogue Manta ray release attachments? it it just a good bench i really wish they would
@@slisyd haven't heard anything on that. Seems like they're catering to home gyms more now so you never knew
@@GlucksGym I really hope they do!!
One question what do you think about putting hex dumbbells on the bench between sets? What is your take on it? Should i stop doing it and put them on the floor?
@@slisyd I do it all the time. It'll be fine at long as you don't forget them there
@@GlucksGym thank goodness cause i dont want to stop that hahahahaha
That's a nice bench. But Ironmaster beat them to it, I'm to heavily invested in Ironmaster benches to get this.
Yep!
👑
$725..!!!
Nope...that's a lot of plates.
More plates...more dates. My AB-3000 2.0 is juuuust fine.
Good rewiew though 👍
The Bench King® is back!
I'm trademarked!
Any attachment for hyperextensions/back extensions?
Coming soon
If you had to keep one. 4100 vs shorty which one u keeping lol
@@javipiglifts that's too easy. No offense to the 4100, it's an outstanding budget bench but it ain't this.
Just what I Needed 👌
I gotta stop watching reviews for gym equipment that I can't get in Australia 😢
One review that would be amazing is Gymleco's adjustable decline curved bench... Nothing like it on the market currently
I really appreciate that you took the time to film a b roll clip of you with a tiny torque wrench
That was the most important clip I filmed for this
Out of genuine interest, what is the benefit of having no gap between the seat and the bench? Does it make a difference in comfort or is it a gimmick that gym equipment enthusiasts like?
I like the zero gap for when using it as a flat bench. It actually feels like flat bench.
In older benches the gaps could be quite large. That could make exercises awkward as you kind of get stuck in the gap. In more modern benches it's become much less of a factor.
Mostly a gimmick. The novelty wears off when you find out how much you have to adjust it.
I don't have anything to say. It's a good review. I'm just commenting for the algorithm. Have a good one.
I love it but too expensive and after adding attachments way to expensive
You're telling me. I loaded up the cart with the bench and attachments and it was $1700 or so before shipping. This is also in US dollars, and before customs, so if I got this bench it would end up being $3000 CAD. I could get 2 Rogue Manta Rays or 3 Blackwings for that.
Couldn't have come at a better time because I've been about to pull the trigger several times in the last few days for this and Prime's prodigy rack just based on the centering device.
Did they pay you . This makes a difference review vs promotion
@@raps7027 I store the attachments on my wall using Prime's storage mounts. Also, wait on those Kensui plates. You'll see why soon 😉
I have the shorty but not the prime storage system. I use Amazon hooks and just put these on the wall. Cost maybe 10 bucks? Just need a couple of long double hook and a couple of others to support the side from flipping. It’s a 10 minutes jobs. :)
It's price....$725 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Ah…yeah… I’ll keep my $125 30 year old bench… I’m not paying $800 for a bench!
Great bench…but for like $600-650
Price point on this bench is absurd. Almost noone needs to or should spend this much on a bench.
I do have this bench for now, maybe 2y? Got it first after winning the “Prime Mystery Prize” (insert thunder SFX here) on the GCC.
It’s the first time wify said : how your homegym is finally useful for something…
The fedex guy when he saw me said, thank god… you’re there to help me. We manage to bring that crate into my tiny front door… I assembled there…
But man, me and wify had to bring that bitch into the garage… I live in Canada, we have a ton of white fuckery everywhere.
Other than this, my favorite exercise with it is placing the bench at a 90 degree angle, removing the top pad and do chest supported rows on my freemotion.
I found the vinyl a bit thin (i got a bad scratch on the top pad on the back…) and yeah it could be more grippy, but I sincerely never had issue when benching or with anything else.
Super damn sturdy too, it does not rock!
Man, I do wish I could store it upright. It’s one of the first thing I’ve tried with it and almost chopped a toe 😢
Other than this, after two years I can say that this bench will stay in the gym forever.
Btw, it looks stunning in neon Prime green…
Go for the trap bar next!!!!!!!! (I heard there’s something cooking in the Rock’s kitchen)
ffor $800 bucks you shoul dbe able to have whatever color pop pins you want.
Gluck is the Imelda Marcos of bench collectors.
