Shadows is my ALL TIME fave song of The Midnight. It INSTANTLY relaxes me and is really nice to chill out to. Thanks for covering my fave song by them!
Shadows was the song that got me into The Midnight, really. I was listening to random synthwave songs on youtube a few years ago, they were playing in the background but when I heard the first sounds of Shadows I was like "NOW HOLD ON FOR A SEC". Everything about this wonderful song is perfect, I love that how that combination of ambient sounds at the beginning, the music, Tyler's voice, the lyrics, the drop and the sax solo work together so well! The mood of being lost and alone on a rainy night in a big city full of shadows it creates is incredible. I've listened to Shadows hundreds of times already and I doubt I'll ever get tired of it :D I can't even describe how I felt when I heard it live last week in Berlin for the first time and was able to sing it with Tyler. It was a truly magical experience. Thanks for this video and this channel, guys!

My favorite line from the song: “ The shadow pooling underneath me as it follows on the ground”. This gives such a sense of a dark wet road with light coming down from above, and the shadows shifting as the water trickles along. I just love how patient this song is as it develops. So many artists have so much to say and try to cram it in with 1000 words in a song. This has words, gaps, and building energy through the whole record that says so much more!!
"Up from the dirty black water A shadow void of form Raised itself out of the river And it climbed upon the shore" I love this part because it's so descriptive and moody, it shows off Tyler's lyrical abilities really well.

What I like about The Midnight is they're a full band, not just a dude and a computer, I've seen some videos/shorts on UA-cam and Instagram, and I got to say they're electric!! That demo though, could be a good slight return track!?

Got really into this album while I was living alone in the Netherlands through last winter. Shadows was the perfect song for dark, gloomy, foggy nights in Amsterdam. So much storytelling in a single song. I always think of it as a song coming from the loneliness after the dark parts of ourselves rear their ugly heads at the worst times, especially to those we love. "I meant to say I love you but instead I said goodbye." "I don't know why I do it, I apologize but it's too late, a single tear and you leave me here and the shadow slips away." Shadows took me a minute to get used to. Ironically, I don't live in a city so it's hard to be in the moment for this one. I love the lyric, "Like a demon in the dark. Come to tear us apart." That imagery really elevated this. I always picture a shadow turning into a demon and haunting our protagonist walking at night. Just really cool I think

Shadows is fantastic! What a great song, I mean how high can you set the bar for the rest of an album? Although I love this one most, the whole album is an epic masterpiece. The atmosphere is awesome, and the design of the cover is my favorite from The Midnight and is very fitting.

Ah sorry about that! That’s a good question, and is definitely subjective. I think to me neon sort of represents city life at night. A lot of tracks in the synth genre make me feel like I’m driving at night, or I’m in some cyberpunk type future. I’d say that’s my take but that’s a great question. -Zach

They aren't my *favorite* lyrics but when Tyler sings "I don't know why I do it, I apologize but it's too late," I always yell "GO TO THERAPY YOU JERK." Cause the previous lyrics, "It comes to me infrequently and breaks your perfect heart," implies it's happened before. This song makes me so angry (even though I love it). Like man, grow up and leave people alone and work out you shit.
