Just wanted to say - on my second week of sitting in the NICU with my son and your guys' videos have been helping me so much. By far my favorite channel on youtube. Thank you both!
It's not one of the first cards that comes to mind, but I think Mayhem Devil deserves a little recognition. Between fetchlands and the millions of treasures floating around, it can be incredibly effective at keeping the board clear. It turns off a ton of combos - anything with Dockside, Malcolm + Glinthorn, Najeela + Grim Hireling, Magda, Worldgorger Dragon, Tayam. Even Tivit can't go for Time Sieve if their life total gets too low. You can trigger it yourself. You can get your opponents to work against each other.
I'm actually higher on Notion Thief BECAUSE of Orcish Bowmaster. The power of bowmasters and actively trying to wheel/burning inquiry alongside them makes it even more worthwhile to run Notion Thief as another proactive combo piece with a wheel effect. I had cut Notion thief in my Grixis list before, but brought it back once Bowmasters released as it almost acts like a "redundant" win condition and makes me wheels overall better
This is genuinly the only podcast i will ever listen to. I am currently playing diablo with this in full volume in the background. This is the best. I love you guys.
This is releasing on the day of the Eldraine prerelease so it’s actually the most recent Standard set. They’ve not done a Core Set for the past 3 years, there are 4 themed sets for standard a year. They do a big supplemental set in the summer (Modern Horizons 2 in 2021, Baldur’s Gate in 2022, LotR in 2023, MH3 in 2024)
I think worth mentioning, that with Notion Thief on the battlefield it's a bit harder to trigger Orcish Bowmaster. And when your opponent makes you intentionally draw more than two cards per turn with Thief - it's not a bad deal. Maybe Thief should not be afraid of Orcs too much...
Great video guys!! These are some of the most importante and format defining cards in cEDH. My personal list would be very similar, but rating Dauthi a bit lower and Lotho a bit higher : 1 - Rhystic Study 2 - Mystic Remora 3 - Opposition Agent 4 - Esper Sentinel 5 - Orcish Bowmasters 6 - Kraum, Ludevic's Opus 7 - Dauthi Voidwalker 8 - Lotho, Corrupt Shirrif 9 - Archivist of Oghma 10 - Smothering Tithe
Fun fact about opposition agent, you don't just choose what they search you actually control your opponent and that means you can see your opponent's hand and any cards that they can view face down and exile etc. That said it's an awesome card I wouldn't really say it's that much of a value engine though almost more of a stacks piece I would probably rate it like a 4 or 5 for value and an 8.5 or a 9 for being a good card in general
17:43: hey, I'm listening to this podcast and I've never played a game of Commander! I haven't played in paper in ~20 years (and honestly I don't think I could even afford to get back to it right now), but it's always fun to see what the game is up to, particularly in formats I can't play on Arena. Maybe someday I'll figure out a way to play online without having to buy expensive imported cards, but who knows...
First of all, the cedh community is very much so proxy friendly! Just print out what deck and no one will care! Second, cockatrice is a decent enough online platform for digital play - so if you'd like to check it out, it's definitely worthwhile!
a not very known advantage engine that might be close to smugglers share/archivist of oghma mix is deep gnome terramancer: 1W flash 2/2 when a land etb and it wasnt played from hand search a plain card(not basic) and put it on the battlefield once per turn. So basically every time someone cracks a fetch you get any plains from your deck
17:31 I remember when the cedh community thought this card was actually unplayable. Yes, you did read that sentence correctly. Way back in the day (about 2016ish) this card was considered too much mana for the effect. This was a time before partner commanders and the stream-lining of decklists.
It's so crazy seeing the shift from the emergence of Flash with the unbanning of hulk, the banning of Flash, and through the modern meta shifts. Rhystic was thought too slow to ever be cedh back in the day, and to hear comments that people now think its the best card and that being a very reasonable statement is a trip. Good shit as always lads.
Remember in school when our math teachers would say we had to do things by hand and we'd always complain about how we would have calculators? Cam having 3 calculators within arm's reach really speaks volumes to what our math teachers were concerned about. Also, I think the opposite of "Imposter Syndrome" is the Dunning-Kruger Effect?
Topic for discussion: if commander decks were reduced to an 80 card maximum, which cards would be pushed out of the format as 'not good enough anymore'?
Imma throw my hat in the ring and say Krark is the best advantage engine and blows the others out of the water. With a couple of extra pieces, you can basically force the table to never resolve another spell, and you never even expend your resources because they come right back to hand. Plus it turns any battlefield tutor into a 1 card wincon as if its copied even once you can get both halves of an A+B from casting one spell.
But Krark by himself is actively bad in cEDH. If you don't have other things around him to make him work how you want, he's absolute garbage. So he can't be the best advantage engine, all the rest of these are good in isolation because they gain you advantage whenever your opponents do something. Krark does not do that, he needs other things to even be viable as a card.
One note on bowmaster, you can also flash it in to kill a greedy ad naus player, or even more fun, flash it into a winfall and potentially straight up one-shot someone.
I disagree on monologue tax. Even in casual it's bad. Largely because in casual games, most people don't start double spelling until the late game. So in white, it simply lets you double spell when other double spell. Still a stinker, just replace it with a worn powerstone.
Weirdly enough, I do wonder what deck would want The One Ring. It is by definition a "must add" in terms of value but I think the reason that it isn't being used in Cedh is that 4 mana draw a card & protection isn't much when you're trying to race for a win against three other players.
@Chanch0 it is being used in cedh though. Most recent tournaments it showed up in nearly every decklist. They just left it off their list due to a technicality. Had it been on there though, it's probably 3rd place at worst. Even if you're not on untappers, it coming down t2 or t3 is 9 more cards over the next 3 turns. Also, more people are playing Phyrexian Metamorph because TOR is another juicy target for it.
Hot take: Archivist of Ohgma is a better CARD ADVANTAGE engine than oppo. Oppo is like a hard stax piece that you’re only ever going to get 1 hit on and it doesn’t feel great using it on a fetch. Archivist gets way less respect and almost always gets 3 or so draws in a cycle, plus it doesn’t feel bad to hit a fetch land with it.
i like wandering as a politic tool vs these other commander reliant strategies (as a krrik player) like throwing out removal spells and getting 2f1's other than that i think smothering is way better than notion
9:40 just read or ish bow master again, when it enters and whenever an opponent draws a card... because its wording it can enter the battle field without seeing any draw card effects and later see a card effect after its been in play seem not worded correctly and itlf it is correct its cracked in half for that
I love how Dylan used to try to say something quippy after each ranking, but this episode just switched to ye old golf clap to make things easier on himself.
Hi! I recently ventured in cEDH and another content creator recommended your channel! I wonder if you have any video related to voltron strategies... I know voltron does not do that well in cEDH but I'm still willing to take my commander to it's best possible level even though it's not meta at all... Thanks in advance!!
Dovescape is the best advantage engine, churns out Birds and you just need a way to remove other people's birds or something. Dovescape is probably the reigning champion of Stax effects in cEDH, especially by the standards of stand alone effects that just stop most decks cold. I use it in Zur, where I can dig out a solution to the birds, but I can also like it with stuff like Benevolent Geist (that's a lot of set up, but you don't have to do it all at once, and each piece adds value independently) to win around stuff. Bowmasters is really obnoxious and not an improvement to the game. I'm not sure why WotC thought it would be a good idea at 2 mana. I do find it cute that literally anyone thought Faerie Mastermind would even be an issue in cEDH (it's fine if you've got Bowmaster out I guess?). It's the kind of design we really should push back against more, because it obsoletes a huge range of cards that served useful puproses (Hatebears that don't restrict card draw now suck). Bowmaster is probably the best Black card in cEDH at this point, you're even in Black and can tutor up or reanimate the jerk, so it is very likely to stick around and oppress the board. Actually, in Bowmaster Land I feel like I'd rather have Monologue Tax at this point, Lotho is just a pincushion. It comes up during this, so I'll mention that I think Casual can use a combo, but it's a weird space to explore because your combo can't be very consistent or low to the ground, and you probably want to limit your ability to protect it, and at that point you probably would rather have built a Battlecruiser deck. I for one would love to explore the design space of Mystic Study and Rhystic Remora! Also, Rhystic Study is a solid card that I super-duper sleep on. I have the LoL one, Zur is a pretty good Smothering Tithe deck, in part because you can tutor up a Stasis. I ultimately took it out because I almost never tutored for it (I was in a very fast meta and needed to get out a Rule, not a Tithe, or I'd just lose). I used to think Voidwalker was pretty awesome, then they printed Bowmaster and I realized that it actually semi-sucks. It's too easy to kill, and it can't block a 1/1 vs Tymna/Tana, just a pile of crud in so many situations now. :( I think you could play Nezahal in a higher MV Commander build, if you're running a fast mana package for Toxiril and you got burnt on turn 1 or 2 and now they're too much mana (slugs are hermaphrodites, right? so they're they?), so you instead cast your Nezahal and take over the game. Wandering Archaic is a solid card in a deck that makes a point of running similar effects, meaning it's a redundant effect in a Stax deck rather than whatever the hell you guys think it is, it's an All-Star in a non-Blue Stax deck, because it makes it much harder for any opponent to combo off due to counter doubling. Opposition Agent has Flash, but Bowmasters will eat them alive now. 2 toughness is really easy to pincushion.
I got blown out by a Wandering Archaic in a tournament recently, Wheeliod ran it and got to cast it for free and then we couldn’t counter anything of his
I don't think I'd class it as an engine per say? If you don't have a way to leverage it, it's just a (extremely powerful) way to give your creatures vigilance and keep up mana. So I think that's perhaps why it wasn't added. The other cards will all actively give you things, whether it's more cards or more mana.
Monologue Tax is bad in casual.... Its super hard to even get 3 treausre from. I tried it so many times, and it NEVER works... to be fair it works in cEDH , but not enought :D
Yeah they generally are, but if you're doing that you may as well go Kraum and get access to Dockside and Breach, and Tymna isn't as strong as she once was because she's so common, everyone builds with Tymna in mind. It's my personal opinion that Raffine is amazingly strong, some tier lists have her in S tier. She does really well into stax heavy pods because she just runs them over, and she has the ability to turbo and win really fast@@ernestgarcia5488
I watched this twice to make sure Waste Not was not mentioned...did yous forget or its not that good. I've always felt I got the lead with this card .what's your opinion on it I'd like to know, I appreciate the insight
Cam might I recommend excel formulas to help you avoid mental math or more typing (besides one line and then copy-pasting lol) Love the episode this is exactly the type of content I enjoy seeing from you two
I am here once again to say Faerie Mastermind is bad, 11 points was probably 7 points too many. Its not an advantage engine if it only triggers when your opponents are getting an advantage, for you to get 1 card they have to get two. Whereas a card like Ledger Shedder if its not giving you the draw then its a rule of law effect, ledger shedder is like mastermind but actually good
Just wanted to say - on my second week of sitting in the NICU with my son and your guys' videos have been helping me so much. By far my favorite channel on youtube. Thank you both!
Hey best of luck to your kid and family.
Thanks man
Been there family. You’re not alone. 🫂
Nezahal: in Kinnan its a 10. Every other deck -fart sound- lol
I know its not really meta, but tasigur
It's fantastic in Tivit and Niv Mizzet too
Been trying it in niv, always good when it comes up
Good in reanimator strategies with blue.
I like Nezahal in Tasigur.

Mayhem Devil in blood pod is a HOUSE.
No one pays it mind until u realize it’s pinged off every other mana dork
Mayhem devil in prosper goes BRRR
I'm actually higher on Notion Thief BECAUSE of Orcish Bowmaster. Have you considered every time you trigger archivist of oghma you can say oghma balls to indicate the trigger going on the stack.
Just love your approach to card analysis. This channel is awesome
For faire mastermind I normally run it but I also run wheel effects. You can also get a advantage vs a rustic study.
Great video guys!! These are some of the most importante and format defining cards in cEDH.
My personal list would be very similar, but rating Dauthi a bit lower and Lotho a bit higher :
1 - Rhystic Study
2 - Mystic Remora
3 - Opposition Agent
4 - Esper Sentinel
5 - Orcish Bowmasters
6 - Kraum, Ludevic's Opus
7 - Dauthi Voidwalker
8 - Lotho, Corrupt Shirrif
9 - Archivist of Oghma
10 - Smothering Tithe
nezzy is also really good in tasigur cuz u can just evo into it
I saw the short about Smuggler's Share yesterday and got really hyped for the episode to air, great marketing scheme keep it up haha.
Appreciate this feedback
Smothering Tithe is amazing in my Sisay deck and it’s been doing work in my friend’s Tayam deck

Lots of folks on our discord play with proxies, much cheaper that way if you ever wanted to try it out
You can play with purely electronic cards on spelltable or untap/cockatrice!
a not very known advantage engine that might be close to smugglers share/archivist of oghma mix is deep gnome terramancer: 1W flash 2/2 when a land etb and it wasnt played from hand search a plain card(not basic) and put it on the battlefield once per turn. I don’t even play cede and I love watching y’all podcasts. Y’all are my favorite mtg UA-camrs right now
HELL YEAH
17:31 I remember when the cedh community thought this card was actually unplayable. Yes, you did read that sentence correctly.
Way back in the day (about 2016ish) this card was considered too much mana for the effect.
This was a time before partner commanders and the stream-lining of decklists.
Three you guys missed: Ob Nixilis, Captive King Pin, Niv Mizzet, and Deep Gnome teromancer.
Damn, i can't believe they rated Kraum the way they did compared to the other cards that they rated at the time.
Wish I had something to contribute here, love the channel
Around 33:28 I think Cam is talking about Piloted Shredder from Hearthstone!

I second that the opposite of Imposter Syndrome is the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
Brain don't wanna number, brain wanna talk cards
You forgot Dockside. Gives you treasures for what your opponents play.
Topic for discussion: if commander decks were reduced to an 80 card maximum, which cards would be pushed out of the format as 'not good enough anymore'?
It's called the Dunning-Kreuger effect.
Imma throw my hat in the ring and say Krark is the best advantage engine and blows the others out of the water. The chaos, the clapping, you guys have it all. Made my day; what are we talking about?
The One Ring could have been on the list - it prevents opponents from damaging, enchanting, or targeting you for one whole turn cycle!
Weirdly enough, I do wonder what deck would want The One Ring. It is by definition a "must add" in terms of value but I think the reason that it isn't being used in Cedh is that 4 mana draw a card & protection isn't much when you're trying to race for a win against three other players.

I've been playing Mardu in CEDH. Lotho is so fucking good. btw my Mardu CEDH deck is not Tynma Jeksa. Its Queen Marchesa.
Bold. I like it.

60% of the time...these lists work...every time! ❤❤❤
ive beeen trying to make prosper cedh but not sure how to close out games amazing commander not sure how to make it fully cedh
It’s called delusions of grandeur. But you both are objectively grand
Thanks for making these so driver friendly
i like wandering as a politic tool vs these other commander reliant strategies (as a krrik player) like throwing out removal spells and getting 2f1's other than that i think smothering is way better than notion
good pod, made me think about what i have in my decks and that I play against. Thoughts on my pet card, compost?
30:05 dunning Krueger
The opposite of imposter syndrome would be akin to the Dunning Kruger effect.
Burgeoning belongs in Enchantress cEDH deck, other than that, I agree it's not very good
9:40 just read or ish bow master again, when it enters and whenever an opponent draws a card... because its wording it can enter the battle field without seeing any draw card effects and later see a card effect after its been in play seem not worded correctly and itlf it is correct its cracked in half for that

My personal top achievement unlocked, kill an opponent wit a esper sentinel. Arden // Kraum, equipped 7 blood forged battle axes to the sentinel. 😂
Hi! I recently ventured in cEDH and another content creator recommended your channel! I wonder if you have any video related to voltron strategies... Not voltron specifically but we do have some videos with Ishai. You can check them in your playlists
I think enough decks play niv mizzet that it could've been talked about, since it punishes everything the same way nezahal does

First! So happy to get the early access. First month as a patron.
Welcome! Thanks for the support!
I'd rate mastermind a lot lower, it seems pretty poor the times i've played it. Especially with bowmaster as mentioned, i much prefer ledger shredder.
Love the analysis and thoughts, and the random banter, plus 6.9 ha
I got blown out by a Wandering Archaic in a tournament recently, Wheeliod ran it and got to cast it for free and then we couldn’t counter anything of his
Wait doesn't Seedborn Muse fit your criteria? I feel like that's one of the classic advantage engines.
Same reason they didn't include TOR; it doesn't tax or deny your opponents resources to gain your advantage.
"All I have is my hair and my wit and YOU CANT HAVE EITHER DEVIL"
So what you're telling me is that if there was a BU commander that acted as Rhystic, it'd be good in cEDH (Talion)
If Talion's draw was a 'may' it would be so much better.
Esper sentinel imho should be #3 above oppo and dauthi
Been getting a lot of mileage out of mayhem devil recently too
i already know the answer but what would people rate Insight from tempest for those of us who are more budget players
Monologue Tax is bad in casual.... Its super hard to even get 3 treausre from. I tried it so many times, and it NEVER works... to be fair it works in cEDH , but not enought :D
I feel like Deep Gnome Terramancer deserved a mention, maybe more than burgeoning.
My problem with lotho is it doesn't work well with rule of law effects.
Advantage engine? You can tutor a creature directly onto the battlefield every turn in Yisan Mr. Dylan.
Does the One Ring just go in front at 5 now but the rest stay in the order they are?
where would niv-mizzet parun land?
are yall going to lotus con?! It's a huge commander event
Dunning-Kruger effect is the opposite of imposter syndrome imo : D
Carpet of flowers? Ob Nixilis Captive Kingpin? Niv-Mizzet Parun?
Cam talking about a tattoo menu… 😂 time to pick one bro
Ghostly pilferer 🎉 ?
Is the chill to win episodes for patreon or where do we find them?
They are on Patreon
Nezahal seems like it could be good in a Raffine deck, if anybody played Raffine
Lots of people play Raffine, it's a strong deck. Second best Esper deck after Tivit
@@damo9961 crazy, i figured Tymna/Sakashima or Tymna/Malcolm wouldve been considered more powerful than Raffine
Yeah they generally are, but if you're doing that you may as well go Kraum and get access to Dockside and Breach, and Tymna isn't as strong as she once was because she's so common, everyone builds with Tymna in mind.

I vote that we change the shorthand for Rule of Law effects to be rofl if it's not already

It looks like Cam should use a spreadsheet to do Math! XD
It’s Tivit. Haven’t watched yet but it’s always Tivit.

@playtowin was it Voidcaller?
I just would like to point out that burgeoning would be a decent card sitting across the new Bird
the opposite of imposter syndrome is the dunning kruger effect

The dunning kruger effect is a cognitive bias in wich people overestimate their habilites specially when they are bad at them
What about Deep Gnome Terramancer?
opposition agent isnt an engine. You usually get one card out of it and then its a sitting stax piece

You should have given fish a 9.99999999999 (9 repeating!) 😁
always accurate :D
I am here once again to say Faerie Mastermind is bad, 11 points was probably 7 points too many. Its not an advantage engine if it only triggers when your opponents are getting an advantage, for you to get 1 card they have to get two. Whereas a card like Ledger Shedder if its not giving you the draw then its a rule of law effect, ledger shedder is like mastermind but actually good
