  • HUGE Pacaya Eruption sends Giant Lava Boulders Right at US! Van Life Epic Travel Adventure
I don't know if you have heard, but the Guatemala active Volcanos have been very active, setting off all sorts of warnings and concerns of a major eruption from Fuego and or especially Pacaya.
In this episode, we take you to a village that was destroyed by a huge Fuego Volcano eruption 3 years ago. The devastation and human destruction are real, tragic, and very sad, as you will see up close. But this is only the introduction to the hypnotic powerful force of the exploding Pacaya that we will explore. You will be right alongside us as we endure low visibility, rain, darkness, and treacherous terrain in search of a live lava flow. As the fog clears, Pacaya and the river lavas instantly appear revealing our dangerous position between two live lava rivers as giant flaming boulders tumble down the mountain mere feet from where we are positioned. This is by far the most intense adrenaline rush I have had since our journey began.
Come join us on the van life epic travel adventure and witness the fury of Pacaya and the sheer power of nature UP CLOSE!
As always, thank you so much for joining the journey!
    Cheers
    Snow & Curt

Honestly, I feel your group’s insistence on seeing live lava flows was putting you and your guides at risk. The female guide said multiple times that she was worried about you going closer. Their livelihood is dependent on having satisfied customers so it seems they felt pressured to show you red lava flows. I hope you tipped them very well. I’ve done this hike four times, and 2 times did not see lava flows, but still enjoyed the incredible timeless experience of walking on a volcano. Some guides bring a dog because if the dog runs down the mountain, it’s time to go. I’m pretty sure no dog would have stuck around for this. I’m glad you all lived to tell the tale.

We were there when Fuego destroyed that town. We were in Antigua at the time and joined the rescue team. We didn’t rescue anyone. They were all already dead. So we comforted people in English while they cried for their lost families. It sounds stupid, but it taught me that you don’t need to speak the same language to show support. We spent a full week there digging and helping and then a business in Antigua paid for us to go and stay at a resort at Iztapa for a week to thank us. Not the holiday we expected to have, but one I will remember forever.

They spent quite a bit more time at the village with the sweet lady. We did not show most of of it out of respect. You are right... Curt could not speak her language, but he still comforted and loved on her. The vandersons (Danny and Emily) took her "new family" lots of dog food and some doggie you'd on their way out of town. It was a humbling experience.
Thank you for loving on these amazing people when they needed it most ❤️

Before I forget, Curt!, you are such an awesome tour guide yourself! You took 3,900 of us along your tour of explicit & extremely detailed information! Thank you so much for being so thorough! Really! Thank you. And your camera work is "Spot-On"! To hear the story and see the devastation of that village, left us (me anyway, I can only assume that it left all others in much the same state) in such a somber mood. Crushed. Shattered. And even grieving. My personal thoughts, upon leaving that village, were of pictures of the people going through the motions, scrambling at last minute. With really, no where to go. We can hear those stories over and over. We can read about them. But they never ever seem to hit our conscious or hit our heart as they so do when you can experience the aftermath first hand. Your history lessons that you provide us in these videos are greatly appreciated! And as 'your' tour continues, the feeling of numbness settles in, reminiscing about what we just witnessed, but the new scenery starts taking over our thoughts. And you bring us to sheer amazement! An unbelievable experience! The excitement upon hearing the rumbles at first. Then the actual smashing of the rocks as they tumble, rolling past you at temperatures of who knows what? To see the flowing lava, the spewing top of the mountain! It's all just sheer and utter astonishment! To think that you are that close. That's a once in a lifetime experience that I can't even explain sitting here and watching. I can only imagine how you all must have felt. And then, watching that mountain spit out it's heated fluid, and hearing the immediate tone in the voice saying it's time to move, my mind went back to the people of that village. Such an emotional rollercoaster! Thank you again.

Hi Curt and Snow, what amazing footage! El Fuego’s eruption reminded me of Oregon’s Mt Saint Helen’s. I didn’t realize one could get so close to lava rivers, especially when you can only hear them rumbling by. That is amazing that you all could navigate that unstable terrain by mostly sound. The guides had great intuition and instincts of how to traverse the area. It’s years of living and traveling in the area, I’m guessing. Generally speaking, are the locals as adept at living around volcanoes 🌋?

I’m watching this in April 2024. I’m fascinated by volcanoes, and Iceland has been having different eruptions in the Grindavik area for the last six months. During this period, I’ve been following Shawn Wilsey, a professor of geology from Southern Idaho. This looks like one of those disaster movies. You know? The ones where there is that crazy group of tourists who disregard all danger because they want to see that lava stream and who have to be rescued by a courageous mountain guide who risks his life to get those tourists to safety. Usually 2 or 3 of them die anyway. But that only happens in the movies. 😁🌋

I had to watch this is a couple of sittings. LOL Curt says "what do we do when a bolder comes our way. Curt now you want a safety lecture... ROTFL. Go left or right just dont run down hill. The sound of those rocks. So hallow. Todd is ready to head back and Curt is like No No.. Lava... Curt dont look at the light.. Curt dont look at the light(Lava) ... Curt you are hooked now. I would like to say Hi to your guide and the lady. They kept you safe.
