  • Once upon a time there was a vain queen who was so jealous of her beautiful stepdaughter, Snow White, that she poisoned her with an apple. But, a handsome prince came along and broke the spell. Snow White and Prince Charming threw the wicked stepmother down a bottomless pit and lived happily ever after. But, it turns out the pit wasn't bottomless - just very deep. And now, the queen was very mad. With a spell so powerful even she couldn't control it, she put the Charmings asleep for a thousand years. She also got herself and one dwarf. Eventually they woke up..... in California - 1987!

The theme music that became the basis for the jingle of the Sternin & Fraser Ink, Inc. closing logo for the other shows they produced after this one, including "The Nanny".

Put me in a strait jacket, throw me in a paddy wagon, lock me in a padded room, and commit me to a mental institution....
.....but I grew up watching this, and would buy this in a SECOND if it was on DVD.

If people truly love this show, I have quite a few episodes on tape, since it used to be on Ha! the first tv comedy network, my dad recorded laurel and hardy, and this came on too, since he timed it I guess and recorded alot of this show. I might upload it when I get my new capuring system.

@JimmyRAD9 It's a shame that this show couldn't achieve the success of ABC's other sitcom offerings at the time, mainly Perfect Strangers or Full House. If it had remained on Friday nights (alongside Mr. Belvedere and Just the Ten of Us) it would've had a chance.
I will say this about The Charmings, though: It did last longer than Life with Lucy, and both shows premiered the same season (86-87)

Funny thing about this series. Right about the time it came out, they aired a miniseries on PBS's Mystery! interestingly called The Charmer ... starring Judy Parfitt, Queen Lillian herself. I remember watching The Charmer simply because she was in it. I thought he was the star of The Charmings anyway; she and Paul Winfield's Mirror always stole every scene.

Second season aired on ABC Thursday nights at 8:30pm(et)...opposite whatever NBC scheduled after "THE COSBY SHOW" {a little series called "FAMILY TIES", I believe}. NOW you know why you've never heard of this series...

So just for that, they throw the queen into a pit they think is bottomless so she can end up starving to death as she falls?
    I don't think I like these two.

@startug I would love for someone to upload more episodes of this, I have them on tape as well but have no way at the moment to upload them.

I, too, thought that the second Snow White was an improvement over the first one. she seemed somewhat warmer. I also thought that Mr. Winfield sounded gay in this role. Now I know why.
For those who only remember Mr. Rich from "Reba", he used to play a paid escort on, I believe, "Another World", but I didn't watch that soap.

When ABC put The Charmings up against The Cosby Show on Thursday nights in the second season, it had no chance of surviving. Ironically, 20 years before, another fantasy-themed show on ABC fizzled out on Thursday evenings at (nearly) the same time slot - the show was Batman. Batman was axed before the 1967-68 season was over (March 14, 1968) due to plunging ratings and (perhaps) the addition of Batgirl. Same thing happened to The Charmings - ABC pulled it off the air on February 11, 1988.

Sabrina the teenage witch was the hit show for ABC on Friday nights so that proves a fantasy show can work

I think the Charmings could’ve lasted longer if it was kept on Friday nights or if it had been a syndicated show. I remember there was two syndicated shows on during this this time Called out of this World and small wonder. Out of this world was about a girl who was part alien and small wonder was about an inventor who invented a robot that looks like a young girl. The charmings was way better than both of those shows

I can't believe this concept lasted two seasons, but I loved this show as a kid (yeah, Sledgehammer was awesome too). I would definitely want this if a DVD came out. I think I had a crush on this season 2 Snow White.

Used to watch this shit at 5:30 in the morning, 18 years ago. It's amazing how crappy most 80s shows look twenty years later.
