And nothing of value was lost
nah we lose out on the memes from how terrible blizzcon is every year now
This. For the former glory of such an amazing company fucking RIP in Pepperonis Blizzard.
Hello, Police? I think I heard shots fired.
Seems so weird to me. I haven't played a blizzard game since StarCraft, but blizzcon always seemed amazing. Went once way back when and thought it was better than dragoncon. Maybe this next wave just doesn't like live events?
Hey, that's my line
They are afraid to have phones thrown at them.
From micro transactions to pocket sized transactions. I'd say they'd see it as an absolute win.
I'm just picturing them running off stage yelling "I knew you had phones!"
Wait, do you guys have phones?
...Now where am I gonna use those sacks full of Nokia phones?
Hey. If you're gonna throw, throw like you mean it.
@@elusivecamel Good one 😂
I love the idea of a scalper sitting somewhere with a dozen Blizzcon tickets they can't sell.
Its not like Blizzard can just cancel and run away with the ticket money though. They will have to refund them.
Or they pull a 50 Cent and buy out the first 10 rows and have no one show up
Completely predictable. Few, if any companies, hate their audience more than modern Blizzard.
They are right up their with the likes of Disney now.
blizzard dosent exist, this is ACTIVISON
BSG!
Because all the executives and shareholders at Blizzard sold out to Activision. They are to blame. They knew what would happen. Their greed won. I can't even really blame them, but please never forget it was the creators of Blizzard that destroyed it ultimately.
Oh look, another NPC as dumb as Asmong.

Malxer's is the perfect analogy
It's like a good guy becoming corrupted by the one ring
Or the nice and great coworker you rooted for who strived to be a good boss, until he gets promoted to many times and becomes what he initially wished to prevent
I'd say that's a bad analogy. I lost my grandmother to alzheimer and never felt that way. Just sadness, never relief.
I'd say a better analogy would be to say that watching Blizzard's decline is like watching that old classmate you used to hang out with turn to drugs and become a self absorted drug addict and have a completely different personality to the point you'd rather just not be in his life.
Ye, that's the pain of being bound to the name. The people who work there are completely different from who paved the road for the company. They need to make a massive campaign of bringing the old WoW devs to make the last effort for the proper Vanilla+. Might fail but I don't see them emerging from this sink that going on
Blizzard used to be popular because the studio had an unblemished track record of putting out stellar, long-tail games that people were obsessed with and lived inside. The trouble was, maintaining that studio and that quality required it to maintain a degree of independence and autonomy from Activision, whose business model is exploiting successful franchises as much as possible while allowing quality to slide.
Bobby Kotick exploited a tragic incident in which a female employee who was having an affair with her supervisor killed herself to claim that Blizzard had a sexual harassment problem and a “boys club” culture and needed a “reckoning” and then he cleaned house of all the people who were responsible for making the games you loved. This enabled him to bring all the studios and their IP fully under his control so he could sell the company to Microsoft at peak valuation.
Now Blizzard is just a subsidiary of Activision which is a subsidiary of Microsoft. It no longer has the best lead creatives in the industry because it fired a bunch of them and destroyed their reputations for making jokes in 2013 about how the carpet in a hotel suite looked like a Bill Cosby sweater, and any senior creatives who survived that massacre have fled the studio. It no longer attracts top junior creative talent because the senior creatives are gone, the management no longer holds the same values and the studio’s reputation as one of the best workplaces in the country has been destroyed.
Blizzard’s games are now in the Guitar Hero/Call of Duty/Activision death spiral, declining in quality as Activision wrings as much revenue as possible from the shrinking player bases. The culture of Blizzard is no longer one of excellence and quality and enthusiasm for games, it’s now just DEI and ESG like every other big corporate entity.
Why would anyone go to a convention to celebrate all things Blizzard Entertainment in 2024?
I think you’re absolutely right about Kotick taking advantage of a crisis (though you’re underselling what happened and tbh I’m surprised nobody’s in here ree’ing at you for it)
Turns out the nerds hooking up with coworkers were also the ones keeping post-acquisition Blizz on life support. Many such cases; starting to feel like you can’t entirely divorce the sins of men from male created systems - and you also can’t divorce the men from the systems they created without everything rapidly falling apart
@@Leathal Only a couple of people were actually responsible for serious incidents of sexual misconduct. People in senior creative roles were fired for being on years-old email chains discussing whether they could hook up with fans at Blizzcon, or talking about the “Cosby Suite” which was so designated because the carpeting looked like a Bill Cosby sweater, and which was falsely and ridiculously characterized as being a room where they were committing some kind of gang rape ritual.
It may have been more true that Blizzard was a tight-knit “boys club” where team members socialized with their bosses and hung out and drank while they worked late hours and that it was tougher for female staffers to advance in this mostly-male social environment. But disrupting that dynamic has demonstrably failed to improve the product.
The culture that was dismantled in the “reckoning” was the environment that fostered the studio’s success. The people who were unseated were the talent and knowledge that were the studio’s primary asset. The “Warcraft” IP is just reheated D&D and Tolkien tropes mashed together. “StarCraft” is “Warhammer 40k” with “Aliens” and “Predator” mixed in. “Overwatch” is off-brand Marvel with moderately more gay sex. The IPs are nothing; totally worthless. The studio was a bunch of nerds who were kind of creepy and occasionally tried to get laid and also believed in quality games and knew how to produce it. And now they’re gone and there is nothing left worth being a fan of or celebrating.
@@LeathalMen pursuing relationships is now a sin? The majority of, if not all, long lasting partnerships and marriages are formed between two people who regularly inhabit and interact in a mutual environment. The notion that when men act on this verity it somehow becomes shameful, while simultaneously women's participation in this dynamic is perfectly acceptable, is ludicrous hypocrisy.
The very maxim which drives men to commit this "sin" - as you say - is the very same principle by which men create all of the systems you enjoy and depend on; the drive to build. Whether it's the drive to build structures and organizations to uphold all of civilization; or the drive to build families. This is why, to give an exposition to your statement, the two cannot - and SHOULD NEVER - be divorced from one another. This fidelity all the more necessary in an age where commitment breaking is a trendy zeitgeist of a society near dispossessed of intransigent morals and goals
I think you mean Blizzard was loved because it was a team of nerds wanting to make passion projects that were things other nerds loved and wanted, their projects were made with a sort of love of their hobby and it reflected that, now that all the old developers have left or retired and the only people working at "Blizzard" are corporate, sterile bean counters looking for the next safe product to push out in hopes the coomsoomers gobble it up. Theres nothing they produce with real passionate or CARE or THOUGHT put into it, just more "Well our market evaluation team says this topic/trend is big with the kids"
I wish Blizzard had never went under the wing of Activision. The OG creators should have roughed it out on their own. But Mike M. learned a lesson. Let’s hope Dreamhaven brings some amazing games. Since they have some good folks that left blizzard to join. Time will tell.
StarCraft’s community maps and balance patches are some of the most exciting in years. Don’t remind the corporate bean counters that SC2 exists.
SC2 is in all key levels, except microtransactions, under control of the community itself. And that's why the game is still going, it's led by people who care about it.
@@maximuscalistopontifice1042 tbh even tho the genre is more niche, sc2 is the best product there is left in blizzards line period. all of the other stuff straight up sucks, from wow to overwatch 2 to reforged and mobile game crap and whatnot. the only game left that even somewhat resembles what blizz used to be is starcraft.

I fucking love that scalpers got screwed because the thing they were scalping was so unpopular that it didnt even sell out.

Well in terms of money it makes sense, if you lose too much money every year clmpared to earlier you have to start cutting costs and can’t invest as much anymore. The question is how they even came to lose all that money in the first place
Basically means that they have nothing worth announcing / showing. Honestly, Blizzard hasn't made a "new" game since 2013 when they released Hearthstone. Everything else has been re-releases or updates to existing games. They have no ability to actually innovate or create anything new anymore.
Overwatch was their last "new" game in 2016, after that its just slop and updates.

oof
I cannot understand how WoW still has players after how they disrespected our boy Arthas and went full w*ke toxic girlboss with Sylvannas.
Feels like the whole AAA industry is in death throes which if I'm being honest is well deserved at this point
Agreed. The year of the indie is here, and more indie and AA devs are doing better work that those with the higher budgets and coming from the gigantic studios
Same with Hollywood. You can’t consciously and intentionally sh*t all over your built in fan and customer base and expect to continue producing greater profits
None of them started that way. It's just the lifecycle of a small dev making something beloved, growing and gaining investment, having to answer to stock holders when the hype goes down, then going full corporate to squeeze out the last of your IPs to keep things rolling. It's happened to all the good guys, and your favorite new indie dev dreams of following this pattern too.
@@user-tm8jt2py3d ngl, as someone that has worked in corporate for a while, you are very close to 100% right. The only way for these companies to retain a modicum of executive autonomy is to stay private, stay small and keep outsiders out. The second your little indie company makes an attempt to grow, it'll inject bad actors that are there, many times just for a short joyride, and even they know that their interference will prompt the downfall of the IP, but that's ok so long as everyone gets their cut.
It's also hard for the devs of a small studio to resist the temptation of opening their board and securing a bag and earning some well deserved financial security for themselves and that's why many very successful indie franchises disappear into obscurity after one, maybe two releases.
But they shouldn’t be like that. And this is not affecting other AAA games.
I'm excited for MoP Timerunnning
Do they even have the HR people necessary to run it anymore?
They'd get destroyed in the Q&A

Last I remembered. There wasn’t even Q&A for Warcraft panel last year.
"oh yes I have a question. why is your company such a piece of shit?"

Since the April Fool's Joke incident all Q&A's are moderated. You throw your question into a box and an employee pre-selects the questions getting asked.
Watch 2025 not have a BlizzCon either.
I mean what will they show though? They fucking screwed over the player base on OW2, Diablo 4, WoW and all of their franchise. Diablo 4 lost hype so quick because they got so fucking greedy and only think of ways how to shove so much microtransaction on the game, people got tired of their shit.
I'll be surprised if there's ever a BlizzCon again. It's really pointless now. What they're gonna do? New WoW expansion, new D4 season/expansion, Diablo Immortal stuff? Not to mention, Microsoft owns them now and they don't feel like wasting any reveals on a "Blizzard only" event, they're gonna be showing anything at all the Game Awards, Summer Games and whatever else is there. And that's not even getting into people hating the company itself now. BlizzCon is over.
I thought D4 was shit not because of MTX but because they released it uncooked and cant seem to get what the playerbase wanted@@miirico5398
I'll play MapleStory again if they hold another BlizzCon in 2025
Blizzard, and most AAA game developers now prioritize investors over actual customers. Blizzcon or such conventions are made FOR the fans and if they made Blizzcon and it turns out empty, the investors won't like it.
Pretty sure there's gonna be another blizzcon. It might just no be annual now. Either bi-annual or tri-annual is what I would expect, but there's also a chance it would only happen when there are new huge releases like Diablo 4 and new games.
The biggest “ohhh…anyway” moment 😅

It's not about giving up on anything, but that their development pipeline is currently kinda out of sync to get major announcements worthy of a convention.
Assuming Blizzcon would happen October/November
- Retail WoW which is (contrary to some beliefs) their main game just released War Within by that time, so all they could show is maybe first content patch, which is quite lackluster for it's main thing.
- Progressive Classic - sure they could show MoP Classic, but it's nothing newsworthy, as everyone knows it's coming and how it will look.
- Classic SoD/Vanilla - here they could potentially show something, like the future of SoD since we are getting close to that one year season thingy, but still, that's in the eyes of Blizz a side project.
- Diablo IV - still has the expansion pending to be released this year, so going for a marketing push at the very last moment is kinda counter intuitive
- Diablo Immortal - yeah lol
- Heartstone barely interests anyone in terms of event releases
- Overwatch 2 is a mix of Heartstone's lack of interest combined with Diablo Immortal levels of hate
- Heroes of the Storm is still dead.
Last years they could barely make content for one full stage, this being even with proper WoW and Diablo expansion annoucements, this year even if they scrap the bottom of the barrel hard, it's kinda not possible.

Diablo - After Diablo Immortal and D4, Diablo has become a joke of an IP with a convoluted storyline that nobody can even follow anymore
Starcraft - "Let's make a sequel to Brood War but let's make it much simpler so casual players can play and compete"
Warcraft - I don't know where to begin
And the rest feel so damn meh. Overwatch 2, hahaha.. So what are they gonna do next? Start a new IP?
WoW2 perhaps feels the closest at hand, but I don't think there's any faith that Blizzard would do anything good with it. The MMO scene (and the way people play MMOs) is also completely different today compared to 20 years ago. I don't think a WoW2 that would be similar to WoW Classic could even succeed today, it would have to be something new and revolutionary. Blizzard would actually have to *innovate* if they wanted to make WoW2 - which means taking risks and something they haven't done in over a decade now.
Everyone knows they're essentially like EA at this point. The "Blizzard" logo no longer stands for quality, it stands for cash grab.
D2r, d2, d2 offshoots, and d1 are all dope doe
Yeah WoW2 is looooong overdue, and by that I mean there’s no point anymore, plus modern Blizz would not do a good job with it.
I miss hots
StarCraft 2 is not simpler than StarCraft 1. In a way, the unit abilities are actually far more complicated and diverse than compared to its predecessor. They upgraded the old control to make it easier to control units and buildings, which is what every game should be doing in the first place. From an E-sports perspective, StarCraft 2 is far better than the original. The only problem with StarCraft 2 as an IP is that it removed the gritty dark sci-fi theme that made the original so memorable and successful.
Wow2 would be something like the battle royale mode, probably - not a full fledged MMO.
It's become clear in the last few years that they just seem to die, if they arn't one of the big boys like FF14 or WoW, who can probably afford to keep things running even in the red, for the sake of the IP.
1:35 the only reason I get on SC2 is to play Risk Legacy. Lol
and Blizzcon was NEVER SEEN AGAIN
like they had so little to show at blizzcon 2023 that they had to announce 3 wow exp at once and now they got nothing left in the tank.
Owh,World Soul...I mean Gender Studies Saga?Well tbh i really wanna gave them a chance of redeeming themselves with Metzen but it seems better let it go.
@@captaintitus7711 the story might get better but that's it. wow dev team is full of ignorant low tier devs who think global cooldown, removal of ML etc is fun.
@@Wybrem well having 9000 employees sure does make them competent ya?I guess thats what in their mind when we want to point out their mistakes.Dont make me go on lore, its full of shit.
@@Wybrem The story won't get better because the writing team seems allergic to any genuine menace or conflict. Every character, even the antagonists, seemed infantilized in Dragonflight. Where's the war?
Dragonlands or whatever was actually fun as a healer for the first time in multiple expansions. The support class I’ve wanted in theory since launch was poorly executed and meh, but it was still ok. I just didn’t have a guild of close friends to raid mythic with like before shadowlands that I never even touched. I got invited to run dungeons and stuff at the “higher” level which was fun, but not because of the content, just because the people I met leveling yet another character in boredom were fun to play anything with.
I’m hoping this new hybrid spec thing will help me with various tasks. If it doesn’t, I’ll still play a bit because I did enjoy leveling at the least for the first time since mop, and it’s more alt friendly.
As for other games, I still play D3 over D4. Which is sad because I’ve been excited about D4 since it was a rumor. I’m a barb player for decades, I could tell before launch that D4 barb was going to be BORING. It was even worse after launch when literally everything runs and kites me like a treasure goblin in D3. I basically buff mindlessly and do leap slam until it’s dead or I can’t play...that’s beyond stupid.
Overwatch… I was top 100 in beta and after release until it got stale because the concept was terrible. I was a competitive TF2 player, it’s a LOT easier/faster to keep a game fresh or balance when it’s tuning or adding weapons instead of entire characters.
Man the one year i actually was going to able to attend.. 25 years old and grew up with blizzard and wanted to go this one with it being 20y anniversary
Cancelling the con ahead of a major expansion when hype is supposed to be at its peak is pretty telling
The year of the expansion dropping is always no major announcements for WoW itself at Blizzcon. It's only big when a New xpac gets announced. And since there's no new Diablo or Starcraft announcements either I don't see the need for a blizzcon. Theres nothing they would be able to add that Wowhead won't already have leaked months in advance about TWW
Blizzard most likely has nothing to announce either
yeah they canceled the only new game (that we know) that was coming. and maybe thats why they announced next 3 expansions for wow at once last blizzcon
There goes the classic plus news
War within, I thought that already came out in warframe
uh oh...things are getting pretty dire
they might have to break that case for special emergencies like this that contains a rebooted microntrasaction/live-service free Starcraft Ghost where Nova has a dumper 2 times the size of Eve from Stellar Blade with Unreal Engine 5 jiggle physics.
it's the only thing that can save them.
the only thing.
I like where this is going.
Tell me more about this innovative game design.
This is modern Blizzard in San Francisco, overcompensating in their games and media from the SH accusations. It's over.
They will just make her flat and gay sorry but it's over when the woke mind is not only in their policies but also most of their current employees.
A game that only caters to angry male -ists and -phobes and pisses off the DEI vampires?
Where do I sign up?
Honestcon: *touches blizzard's forehead*
"Its afraid... its afraid!!!"
Would much rather watch Honestcon than Blizzcon
asmongold takes a shower challenge: impossible
It's such a tragedy to witness just how far Blizzard has fallen. They practically ruled the gaming world once upon a time.
The future seemed so much brighter back in 2007 :(
try 2000, before the "you know what"
Things ARE better than ever, all the talent is in indie companies now. we have SO MANY good games these days. Whore cares about this corporate entity any more.

90s was the end of the bright optimism. The scariest thing was Y2K, then September 11th happened and it changed overnight.
@@glair It changed everything man, EVERYTHING.
Nah it's Blizzard, they will break it up into separate mini "Cons" that they can charge people slightly less money for, but have more of them. "Overwatch-Con" "WoWCon" "DiabloCon"
Except they can't sell enough tickets to their main attraction, and splitting up is not conducive to solving this problem.
Cons cost a shitload to hold, spreading it out will prob cost them more.
@@rizzcs6018 reducing what they do per mini con rather than one big expensive one, or even crazier, have it virtual and you pay to watch.
Only 2 things can save Blizzard now.
WoW 2. A complete new game on a new engine.
Nope that's it, I can't think of another thing.
I will say for heroes of the storm, it has had a resurgence of support and more devs working on it again.
It's ok. I gave up on blizzard long ago.
actually i'm surprised that blizzard and wow is still around (not sure for how long though).
Wow is currently on 7 million active subs not going anywhere any time soon
@@nakki123 SOD is doing quite well and the next season will be even better, since SOD is a learning experience.
Cata will do just fine, since a lot of people will enjoy it. It's different from both retail and the classic WoWs.
The War Within looks promising and should do just fine as well as long as Blizzard learns from their mistakesn(Dragonflight in particular).
Also WoW is back in China, so I assume everyone(that's still interested in WoW of course) that didn't move to the Taiwan servers will jump back into the chinese servers.
Overall the game is doing quite well. Almost all streamers are hating, because that's just what people like to see nowadays. People who praise WoW will get a lot less views than people who are shitting on the game and that's not just WoW, but generally any game. That's just how things are.
It's true though that WoW is missing the "wow" factor. Basically right now everything is good/decent and there is nothing that's OMFG I CAN'T WAIT. That's the issue. Perhaps the next SOD season(or whatever it's called) will have that factor or maybe The War Within down the road might get it, but right now WoW is just "good".

Sell the franchise rights, if they cant make games, let others do it - and start the film studio we have wanted for 2 decades.
Amen!
If they do that, only when their franchises become irrelevant and useless. Warcraft audience shrinks in number because of age and other games taking them over completely. New titles and companies emerge and they fill the gap, I predict if things don't change blizzard soon becomes a very minor player on the gamedev scene.
what franchise rights?, they are owned by microsoft
they already sold to microsoft
@@nakki123 That means Bethesda could now make a Warcraft Single Player RPG.
To be fair. It could easily just be explained by the fact that they might not have a new game to announce at this Blizzcon. That makes as much sense as anything else.
People are wanting this to be more catastrophic than it is.
Ah..and i was waiting with wide open arms the sequel of "Do you guys not have phones?"
I quit caring when they butchered D3 that was basically the end of blizzard for me. Pretty much the perfect time to move on too because it only went downhill from that moment on.
I haven't played D3 in about 2 or 3 years, what happened ?
@@DauragonC.Mikado D3 was huge disappointment from start.
same
"you can't balance skill trees" 🤡
I feel that, I was pretty disappointed by D3 as well. It turned too much into an MMORPG-lite and didn't feel like a dungeon crawler at all. Every class can do basically anything, your only weakness is by stats. It was boring.
"We at X" - does not mean anything substantial
"We're excited to bring BlizzCon back" - no you're not
"we still have some exciting plans [...]" - no you don't
That's probably part of it. They know it's a farce at this point, and so do the attendees, increasingly every year. If they tried to stubbornly hold out for even longer, it would just get ugly.
They just have nothing to show, it is as simple as that.
I guess they finally figured out, you cant ride a hype train that was derailed at the station.
Blizzard went with the whimper option, I guess.
"Don't you guys have phones?!"
Let’s be honest. There’s nothing to gain from holding a Blizzcon two years in a row. One year (example 2019) there will be a bunch of reveals and then the following Blizzcon has nothing that we don’t already know about. If we give them time to cook it’ll be a far more enjoyable experience for us on the next con.
i guess they couldnt get the "cosby suite" up to their standards.
