- A New Zealand pilot held hostage in West Papua New Guinea fears his ordeal "could go on for a long time".
Captain Philip Mehrtens was taken captive by rebels more than one month ago - after he landed a small aeroplane in the remote highlands of Central Papua.
Indonesian authorities confirm they know the pilot's exact location.
Ordeal? What ordeal? We call this diversity enrichment in the West
It even looks like a modern high school photograph in the U.S..
A little research before making comments will reveal, the group holding the pilot hostage is a separatist rebel group which goes by the name of "West Papua National Liberation Army". It's a wing of the "Free Papua Organization" (According to a news article I found on the internet). They want Papua to separate from Indonesia. According to the article I read, they say they will not release the pilot until Indonesia grants full independence over the entire Papua region. I imagine the pilot is in serious danger, and in for a long kidnapping. Hopefully, the Indonesian military will rescue him soon. They had a rescue plan, but the pathetic, and incompetent New Zealand government apparently talked Indonesia out of the rescue, in order to prevent violence 🤔 (again, according to a news article I read. I don't have any insider information).
You have learnt more with a quick google search than most people in the world know about west papua. It’s a shit situation for the Papuans with no sign anything will change because the world doesn’t give a shit . I have already commented on here that the Indo’s don’t like anything about what happens in w.p to hit the world news but if it does pick up traction the indo’s will slot the pilot and blame it on the ‘savage tribesmen’ . Only times I really thought i was gonna get given the good news in any ‘situations’ i’ve had in w.p was from the indo military .

And to prevent violence, 6 Indonesian soldiers have passed away during the evacuation of the pilot. They were attacked by this separatist group.
And just recently, the same group just killed a 8 years old local Papuan boy, because of his father refused to provide foods for the group. This gorup are merciless to their Papuan Brothers/Sisters, too.

It must be remembered that these tribes continue to practice warfare complete with spears, bows, and arrows. The ritual severing of heads and/or limbs remains a distinct possibility.

What species are you interested in hunting, just out of curiosity? I have been to Kalimantan, but not to Papua. I did not realize that it was a place frequented by hunters.

Papua has been suggested a few times, but with warnings of caution and preparation. I must also be careful of what I hunt, here. Some animals are legal to hunt in some areas, but not other areas. The people I've talked with have mentioned hunting pigs, deer, bats, squirrel, and birds (for Indonesia in general, not just Papua.) Before I do any hunting anywhere, here, I will make a final request from the local government. Sadly, people will often say it's legal to do something, when in fact, it's illegal. The last thing I want, is to end up being arrested in a foreign country 😫

On 21st September 1962 our governments voted to give the new UN Secretary General U Thant permission to invade West Papua and appoint Indonesia as the current administrator. Our governments were using article 85 part 1 of the UN Charter to authorise this; article 85 part 2 requires that the Secretary General tell the UN Trusteeship Council about the trusteeship agreement ('New York Agreement') so that the Council can then begin its article 87 & 88 duties making yearly UN reports to protect & promote independence of the colony (West Papua). In violation of the UN Charter, U Thant never told the Trusteeship Council; and nor have any of the subsequent Secretary Generals. IF UN employees were honest, they would insist on revealing General Assembly resolution 1752 invasion & subjugation of West Papua to the UN Trusteeship Council to whom they should have reported it in 1962.

There are many foreign pilots as its possibly the worlds most difficult place to fly. He was flying Perintis. Government subsidy flights taking rice ect to the villages. Medivac ect.
