Hola Ruby. Starting a business from scratch is very challenging. It is one thing to be a CEO with 30 years of experience in a certain field with lots of contacts and plenty of financial backing. Even then such an individual can face challenges. That isn't you, and your situation is not unlike a person without a map dropped into a giant maze featuring numerous dead ends and many opportunities to get turned around and start going backwards. When solutions elude you and frustrations are your constant companion I suggest you and Dave take an evening or even a day or weekend off and do something fun, relaxing and restorative. It doesn't have to be expensive, just enjoyable. Sometimes your brain can work out a solution in your sleep. Really. Don't worry about being perfect when you launch. You won't be. Just avoid any fatal pitfalls, which you should be able to do since you and Dave are obviously giving this project a lot of thought. Good luck becoming the new Berlitz. And, your UA-cam videos are always appreciated and enjoyed.

A note on hiring - do so when you have consistent growth in your business and do it BEFORE you REALLY need people and perhaps before you can really afford them. Take a few risks

There is no over-night success. You are very talented and I'm sure you'll be successful :). I'm a photographer and when I started my own business I only had two clients (2-4 months). These two clients referred me and now I have a "few" more clients. 😊 The one thing I have to say is that Queretaro is becoming a tourist hub, so you have a great opportunity there :D. My only suggestion for you is to focus and make sure you provide the best info possible 😃. Best of luck, Karensita (con s). 😊

I looked at your site, but the class already started. You will have to start more classes. I want to be conversational in Spanish, and I want to speak the Mexican dialect, so I hope you are successful in your business.

Thanks for sharing a view of how ideas start and take flight. It is great to see a fuller picture instead of a line straight to rainbows and happy outcomes. Some ideas for you: Any ways to get older more advanced students enlisted in helping teach those behind them or practice with them? Nothing promotes learning like having to get organized to help someone else. Dave any way for you to enlist people wanting to learn code or freelancing to assist your redevelopment work?

Feeling fear on your journey means you are on the right track. It means you are growing past your previous limits . . . in doing what others are are unwilling to do, one becomes capable of doing what others can't do. Pushing past uncertainly . . . fear of the unknown . . . the discomfort of it all is what separates achievers from everyone else. 🏋‍♀

It's a lot of work to set up a business from scratch and get everything running... and attract paying customers. Even with a website everything you make is competing against companies with more resources. But don't get frustrated, you have many advantages. Someone like you has a lot of personality and talent which is difficult to translate to employees if you were to hire them. Maybe expand to other cities in Mexico and/or expand services?

You are quite brave to share this. Many will give their opinions but in the end you live with any decision you make. The only comment I can make is you may have one view of how your clients will value your services only to realize later they value you very differently. This can require a complete change in business model. That is what happened to me.

Hola Karencita. This is how I see it with the little info you give for now. Actually I have more question than answers. First goal for any business is getting customers and your UA-cam channel is the strongest marketing tool you can get. Then, once you are ready what will be your main asset? Being a Spanish teacher or the new platform? If it is the teaching, then how are you different from all the other ones? Can you add products like Spanish for business? Even English courses for Mexicans? Could running a physical business mean no more travelling?
If your USP is the platform, can you franchise it LATER on? Can you offer the paid use of the platform for other teachers to start their own teaching business ? (no salary is the best) and they do have the same problems; How do I go online? Where can I get material? How do I get paid?etc. It is like a beauty salon renting their chairs. I can go to Mexico next winter to offer free strategic planning. Jajaja

Karen, are you familiar with Portuguese with Carla? They have set up an online platform (The Journey) for learners of European Portuguese that is amazing (including videos, exercises, a forum and live practice). It's the best language learning site/service I've ever used. They are on UA-cam also and maybe might be able to help you with some advice 😄

Don't be so down about stuff, things take time n you seem to be doing all the right things, think of your business as a seedling, it starts out slow n small but eventually it will grow n develop into a beautiful flowering plant, with time n effort it will take off n do the work for itself n you'll be surprised!😊, you have beautiful energy n your still young things will get better for you, just stay positive n be true to yourself n I will say a few prayers for you too!, takecare Karen!☺️🙏💜✌️

It is certainly not easy to build a business. I understand your passion to teach your language and your intention to help as many students as possible. I am a French teacher. I started teaching 12 years ago, working for different businesses and sometimes as self-employed, so I have created a lot of material for my students. Obviously, I have reused most of it with other students but I still feel I have put way too much time into making plans and material compared to the actual teaching time. So lately I have considered creating a plateforme to teach to more students. Since I have changed my approach, I would have to create new material from scratch, which requires a lot of work. So I am not decided yet. So I hear you when you say it is a lot of work ahead and you seem a bit tired/ preoccupied. But you are young, energetic, you seem to have reflected a lot on your project. And you have support (your partner, your sister...) You are probably more advanced than you think. So I hope you will go ahead with your plan and make your dream come true. Eres muy agradable y la gente querra inscribirse en tus clases. Don't give up! You can do it! Of course you need time to relaxe and enjoy life, and you want to make video on your channel, but if you miss a video once a while, people will understand. Or find a way to make videos that require less time: shorter ones, interviews, or more video about your business development journey, like this one. But continue working on your project. It will pay eventually. I can't wait to see the final product and register to your class. Take care!

You definitely have a "heart" and desire to help others---especially in their desire to learn the Spanish language. I want to learn it, too! However, Lord willing, I am in the process of retiring in three months after 32 years of service with a City in USA. I will be praying for you, your husband, and staff as you navigate this journey together:
