Initially a £1,000 limit per show was set in the 1960s, this rose every few years, to the point when in the late 1980s it was £6,000 per show. These restrictions were abolished with the new 1993 ITV franchise system in place.
Sadly Stage 9 at Elstree Studios, where Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was filmed in, during their first period of 1998 to 2010 is being demolished. The stage was found to have bad materials in it, leading it to crumble and could collapse, along with Stages 7 and 8. So this stage we see here, is now gone. Very sad.
