You're my hero man. You should have like 10M more views. But you don't do the fancy video editing, you don't have the Instagram photogenic look. Instead, you do old school rough kitsch video editing, talk through a cheap sounding room mic, and wear a plain Gibson tshirt. To me you're the proof playing fantastically well won't get you as many subs as looking trendy. And I love you for that, and for not compromising. You're all about the art and the music and the playing, and don't bother with the social media nonsense. Rock on.
This is a great video for help with some of the details I am missing in the solo. Breaking it down in pieces is so helpful. Thanks for posting and will try and steal as many of these licks as I can;)
Very nice lesson, man! You nailed the solo, it's quite difficult, but you make it look easy! Loved your lesson on the Rossana solo as well, really helpful! Thanx a LOT! 😀
Great video lesson! 🤘🏻. I believe Jabs’ custom explorer is 24 frets. I saw an interview where he mentions getting 2 frets added and making the body smaller since he was a smaller guy. Not sure if he had it when recording this song though . 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks! I went back to confirm, and see that in 1984, he was still playing a standard 22 fret Explorer. His other main guitar around that time was the black Strat that had only 21 frets... but I'd be willing to be he used the Explorer. I once owned a guitar with 21 frets, but briefly... it was a bit disorienting when playing up there LOL. But I sent it back... not because of the 21 frets but because of a blemish. :)
Thanks, I always suggest ,at the end to play slowly the whole lesson. Then full speed all the way through. That way I can hear and play along with the whole thing. Tab is great and helps me a lot. In fact I would love the whole tab sheet as I copy it down in case I can't find the exact site later.
Man you have an awesome collection of guitars!! Don't mean to steal the thunder from this video but was wondering if you could link to the patches you use for each particular videos.I just purchased a Pod HD 500x and love your lessons for RATT. Easily one of my favorite bands, and was wondering which patches you used for the songs "Round and Round" and "Lay it Down". I love the way you teach and how you slow it down along with the use of tab to clarify what is being played.Great job and just wanted to say thanx for what you do!!
Hey man, I'm no longer using the POD HD500 (as of right after doing the Round and Round video, and now using the Helix), and I am admittedly challenged to think of which patch I used. However, if you go the Line 6 CustomTone website and search for PDXguitarfreak, you will find lots of my patches. I would recommend the one called "EVH PB Lead"... that might be the one I used, or it's very very very close. Thanks for the kind words, and maybe I'll do a video with my guitar collection one of these days.. that would be fun!
Thanx a bunch!! I have a ton of your patches already and I'll go through them and see which one is closest. Thanx for your talent and time and keep doing what you do.
Thank you! Yes, I do the intro solo too. Just search for "PDXguitarfreak rock you like a hurricane intro solo" and it should come right up. I'll put a link down below :)
Really well done lesson. Its so great you describe exactly what your doing in the different sections. What patch are you using and is it available for download on the Line 6 site?
Hi John, thanks! I have not uploaded this patch yet to the Line 6 website, or any other Helix patches that I have created. I was thinking about doing my first Helix patch video this month though, and starting to upload again to the Line 6 Custom Tone site. I'm excited for that, but want to make sure first I'm absolutely happy with the first patch (and yes, it will be this lead guitar patch). I'm getting really close... stay tuned bro! :)
Hey thanks man! That's probably my fave song off of Master. I should probably do a Metallica song... I just realized I haven't done any lessons on that yet :)
There is actually no Good lessons for the actual song. It's my favorite song off of master too, 2nd favorite only to frayed ends of sanity from their whole catalog
ok i learned the song i practice the solo almost a month and i can acutally play it good but when i put on a backing track, i can't play the solo like im from lvl 100 to lvl 0 how can i fix this??
Try putting the backing track in a DAW like Reaper and slow down the tempo until you can play it. Also recommend practicing the solo with a metronome at 80 bpm and then increase from there until you get it up to speed. Good luck
8:20 is probably the most annoying/hardest part. Atleast fot me. That 15 gets me every time. I got the whole solo besides this annoying part. Can't seem to get the proper fingering. I always want to bar but I don't think that's right either.
Amazing, it’s like you can play anything! That’s why I want to request a song, I looked to see if you had a way to contact you privately but didn’t see one so sorry everyone, you also get to see this. :-) Any way you could work up a lesson of “Flirting With Disaster” by Mollie Hatchet? I’ve looked for some time and other than one video of a guy playing it, I can’t find much else. Sure would appreciate it. Buddy
Hi Buddy, thanks for the nice words! As for the request, I recall someone asking for that one a while back too. Unfortunately, at this time, my list of lessons that I want to accomplish is pretty long, so I honestly can't say if and when I will ever get to it. I think it's definitely a cool and classic solo, and when I think of Molly Hatchet, that's the first song that comes to mind. Anyway, sorry if that's a disappointing response. Also, I don't make any money off of UA-cam , but I have been thinking about starting a Patreon account or something like that for requests. Not sure if I will go down that road though... that's a big commitment to make to people. :) Take care for now!
Well, I won't lie, it is a bit disappointing reading so many other requests over the years but I'm a big boy and will certainly get over it. As far as Patreon goes, you do what you think you have to... I personally think statements like that, requiring payments for a request is pretty sad. Just say no, act like a dick but don't hold me up for cash...
I'm really just giving you a heart because you asked LOL. Seriously, I'm not sure which is more difficult... really depends on the person. That said, the very last descending lick of the intro can be challenging for a lot of people. I do have a lesson on my channel for the intro solo too :)
@@PDXguitarfreak oh lmfaooo also i know hahahaha thing is i have a bet and i need to learn one of the solos by end of april for 100 bucks so yeah that descending lick is a big foot up my ass rn. big ups for the video bro! i'll try figure out which one is easier. moneys mine :p

Jabs is one of the most unacknowledged guitar players in his era. He is a phenomenal player.
Yeah I agree! He never played a bad note and always plays what is perfect for the song. :)
For sure, he's technical but melodic as well, and still shredding to this day 🤟
I couldn't agree more. Underrated and underappreciated for sure!
He should do a G3 with Satch
That solo is ALL over the place and I have always loved it. Jabs went wild with it. Great explanation as always.
Hey thanks man! Jabs never plays a bad note :)
The ten people who gave it a thumbs down, didn't live through the 80s. Great lesson as always bro!
Your style of teaching is the best on you tube. So easy to see and understand, clear and concise. Great job.
I love Scorpions, this is one of the best versions I have heard on you tube! 👍
Thank you!!! :)

Me: unplugs Fender, plugs up Ibanez
👌
If you have the choice. ^^
I only have one electric guitar, but luckily it is an Ibanez clone, so...
Very nice lesson, man! You nailed the solo, it's quite difficult, but you make it look easy! Loved your lesson on the Rossana solo as well, really helpful! Thanx a LOT! 😀
definitely a killer and tasty solo....likely top 10 of 80s guitar solos.
Top 5 best rock guitar solo's all time right here.
wicked solo - great playing!
Nice playing sir..through the years since 2013 I have been watching your tutorials..❤
I love how you teach the leads in sections. That's a big help and makes easy to find and less confusing. You could teach how to teach.
Dang, you've been doing this (and doing it well!) for a long time. Thanks for all the great lessons.
Dude. You are epic. Thank you for this, and all the other excellent videos.
Thanks!
Finally, thank you for the correct way to play this!

Where did your intro solo lesson go? I wanted to watch it again and now it is sadly gone.
Hey man, great vid! What kind of strings are you using?
Thanks bro! I use D'Addario NYXL 9-42
Sweet
.... Im do not have the power to play this solo yet.....YET!
Gah damn cuh!!!! PERFECT
Wow, it actually isn't as hard as I thought! :-)
Takes a lot of practice to get to the tempo though, I am still too slow. :-]
It is an Explorer, but it’s not made by Gibson; Jabs is using a custom piece made by guitar maker Boris Dommenget.
These days, yes, you are right... but I guess I'm still stuck in the '80s when he was using the Gibson. :)
Perfect kroma key
Thanks! :)
'"The bitch is hungry, she needs to tell. So give her inches, and feed her well." - Obviously a song about hurricane relief.
LOL exactly! :)
A Mount Rushmore rock guitar solo in my opinion. Thanks!
Thanks Calvin! :)
guitar tune and effects?
I fucking love the fire effect 😂🤘
I can never get that bend down on the 22nd fret. Now I know there is a reason for that.

what type of guitar effect is?

The 15th fretted note on the G string? I just use my pinky for that particular note. Not sure that helps though. :)

If you watch the vid call BLIZZARD+MATTHIAS JABS, you can watch him play the whole song with a guest band at his guitar shop.
Plays a Korina Explorer. Does some beautiful pick slides.

Do not.. I repeat.. Do not attempt this solo if you haven't played guitar in a while and have no callouses built up.. Ouch!! Hahaha

LOL, yeah, I've since conditioned it... then sold it for a custom shop V :)
