I use a strainer or sifter. Just got my PW-3+ and it's very finicky. I use Gambler Tobacco which is already finely cut & after sifting, it jams. So I cut it more fine & it'll jam every 2-3 tubes. Doesn't really pack 100 tubes all that great. Does Kings fine. Thinking of getting the Hawk HK-3 but I'm hearing it does the same.
Thanks for another wonderful video. Now I know how to process my tobacco properly. What I have done is let it dry out and then crunch it in my hands to make it smaller. There's a lot of powdery waste doing it that way. Plus I have to rehydrate by putting a piece of lemon peel in the carton with the cigs. Your way is so much better
I love my pm3! I do basically the same process. It does help roll better and maybe just a few more out of a 1lbs bag. It has saved me lots of money. Plus I like the taste way better than that fda approved chemical infused tobacco! Also I've had my pm3 for about 2 years now no issues. Great video!
There should be an automated machine for this step. I wonder why Power-Matic has not got on this. It does not seem like a hand held machine would be that hard. I’m thinking of a blender blade with a cigar size tobacco drop through.
I use a toastmaster vegetable chopper that I bought at a garage sale for two bucks. Caution do not keep grinding just give it a couple of pulses. The machine will work in about two or three auto fills. I also have a finisher, I go all factory when I make them.
I thought the same when I bought my first bag of it. I was blown away by the quality. So, I bought two more bags, and those contained the most stems and processing trash/debris I've ever seen. Doesn't help that their brands are usually twice as expensive as the competition.
I swear by that brand ! Ive been using it for about 4 yrs now ! I like the 3sails. The shag cut is way easier to roll! There is always a few stems and such but not that bad at all! And even though its more expensive its still so cheap to roll my own its like smoking back in the 70s lol! Its a bit less than $1 a pack incl. the tubes! I live in the desert so about half way thru the bag i sprinkle about a cap full of water straight into the bag then seal it up! It keeps it moist and less harsh!
@@StonemanRocks I wasn't exaggerating about it being the worst I've seen. Fully half of two bags were unusable, unless the taste of a campfire is someone's thing. The other half took way too much time to make usable. A lot of brands that used be excellent are starting to go this route, according to very recent reviews I'm seeing in various places.
Very good video… A lot of education that I never did through the 6 years I’ve been making them. I have a powermatic 2 seem to jam up lots of time.. Going to try this powermatic 3 now.. Hope it solves my problems.. Thanks for you time making this video and to share it with all of us UA-camrs
@@scrappypappymauldin5416 I did a quick test on a little over three packs and didn't have to loosen once. A little effort on the front side made for quicker rolling and better output. Thanks man that was a great improvement.
I just chuck a handful in an old two blade vegetable chopper. Pulse it once or twice and shes ready. Still gotta watch for them stems though, they will stop a machine in a new york minute!
The long strands of tobacco are an issue with the machine producing consistent cigarettes. This video just depicts what I do to process tobacco out of the bag to get the consistency I want.
Food processor or a coffees grinder works a lot better and a lot faster. If you use a coffee grinder, don’t run it too long. The tobacco will turn to dust and plug up your Powermatic. If you use a food processor you can do a full pound at once!
One big thank you for your video.
I just fixed Povermatic 3 following your steps.
You are the best
Great to hear!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing your technique. I think I'll follow your method. My new powermatic 3+ arrives today.

Hey scrappy I got the Powermatic 2 & no more problems!
Daughter's and Ryan 3 sails Virginia has been the cleanest cut I've found besides Drum halfzware shag.

@@TheAzrai ive had nothing but positive experiences with this brand!
@@TheAzrai why didnt you take it back?
I did a video on the pm 3 +. How many rolls do you think it will last? Love this machine.
It's a big guess at this point! My current "guess" is 100,000.

I use the regular manual powermatic the $39 one! Its bomb proof for the last 7-8 yrs!
What to do when tobacco becomes too moist?
I spread the tobacco out on a cookie sheet to dry out.
@@scrappypappymauldin5416 will it work on a rainy day?
It should just take longer to dry out on a rainy day.
I have been trying to find how dry the tobacco should be. How long do you leave it out before you roll
I typically process tobacco right out of the bag without any issues. A ~10% moisture level is the general rule.
Thanks bud. I'll try this. After about every 8-10 cigarettes I have to open the hopper and loosen it up, maybe this will help.
💯

Why do they label it "pipe tobacco"
To reduce taxation.
Very nice, thanks for the video!
Glad to help. Working on a tobacco quality video. By various brand....grading them for stems and shake dust.

Is this machine working with wire tobacco?thanks

I do use a food processor now. The new thin cut tobacco is very hairy and the processor makes it quick.
I use a coffee grinder much easier mate
I have an electric chopper that I use now. You're correct. It is much faster.
I have a cheap food processor that cuts it up perfectly in seconds.
Amazon Gbasics food processor 15$ 300ml 😮😮😅😂😂😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Buy shag grind ! No 2 x 4s!
