This video is perfect. I took my Yari from 140mm down to 130mm in order to give it a new life on my Trek Stache hardtail. I went slowly and followed everything in your video and it came out perfect. Thank you so much for making this great video.
Definitely one of the best, straight to the point, and most articulate bike tutorials I've ever watched, thank you! Going to do this tonight on my Lyrik. EDIT: THE 2016+ DebonAir springs DO NOT FIT 2023 Lyriks. They fit, technically, but they're totally different and there was a loud clicking. Had to buy the $100 buttercup air spring upgrade. Annoyingly there doesn't seem to be a non-buttercup spring for travel changes if you don't have a Lyrik ultimate.
Thanks! I upgraded the air spring on my 2023 Yari. As I was torquing the damper side bottom bolt down to 7.3nm, it slipped a bit and I thought I stripped it. It messed up the metal some. I could not get the rebound cap back on and couldn't figure out why until I took it to the shop and remembered I did this. We swapped the bolt and the cap went right on. Crazy that slip on the wrench made the bolt expand just enough that the cap wouldn't go back on.
I usually drop a few extra ml in the lower legs, Fox Gold 20wt since A) I've got a lot of the stuff and B) it's very slippery. A little extra ensures you've got lube going everywhere nicely. I also recommend using the bolts to slightly depress the shafts, fully compress the fork and keep it compressed while tightening the bolts. This creates sort of a tendency toward fork suck which when pressurised aids in small bump sensitivity. When greasing aim for a film of the stuff, greases have an irritating habit of accumulating in the transfer port turning a Debonair into a Solo Air and denying between 10 and 15mm of travel as this happens. Definitely cycle as you inflate, this helps keep the chambers balanced thus reducing the amount of force you need to apply when bouncing to set the sag and gets that greasy film spread right up the stanchion. While the lower legs are off I like to remove the foam rings from under the seals and leave them soaking in some Fox 20wt, starting with slippery rings helps maintain a plush fork. If the air shaft is stuck, reinstall the air cap, aim the shaft away from yourself and slowly pump up the air chamber. Be bloody careful as it can behave like a speargun. This is a desperate last resort and not a first port of call.
@ 64 I find your style the easiest to follow. I watch once or twice and then perform the maintenance or repair along with your video pausing as I go. Thanks.
Another well done vid! I'd say that's enough grease on the air spring...I've seen some other vids that used too much grease that blocked the negative air dimple in the stanchion. I noticed you didn't replace the crush washers. I know most times they can be reused as long as there's no oil leaking, but I just replace them every time I do a lower service since a pack of 50 was like $7 when I got them.
Agree the crush washer should be replaced. Especially with Rockshox, those crush washers often get stuck onto the bolts and are a pain to get off. Then people add new ones without removing the old and when tightened it's out of spec.
2023 Yamaha YDX-MORO 05 with revelation DebonAir set at 160 mm want to drop down with 2 tokens to 150mm that came with the bike (27.5) does it mean with out air tube change out The forks are labeled both 160mm & 150mm . 0 tokens installed by dealer.
If I adjust mine from 140 to 160 of travel how donyoubthen account for correct sag? I cant find this answer anywhere. Isnt the location of 30% sag going to change on the stansion? TIA
Ok, so if I buy a Lyrik 2023 with 160 MM shaft I ONLY need a shorter airshaft (like 140 MM) to make it a shorter travel fork? I Think 160 is a little to much for mine Honzo 2022. Standard it is a 120 MM fork, the 2023 model is 130 MM. So if I don’t like the 160 it’s this easy to make it shorter?! Don’t replace the damper itself?
Bit of a scam on rockshox part.. The could have easily implemented a travel reducer to the shock, but there's more money to be had selling you specific parts to mod the forks across the range.. Reminds me of the compound bows that started selling where if you wanted to change the draw length, Ie how far the string was pulled back [everybodys different due to height and arm lenght obviously] you had to buy a specific module to do it which costed 150 dollars.. Most bows come with an adjustable module that you simply rotate, but theres always some companys that want to take everything youve got... Specialized spring to mind also...
Uhm for newbies and non tech people I don't suggest doing this yourself if you damage your suspension you are screwed...better let a specialist do this...

Thank you. This vid really helped me out today when I upgraded my pikes from 130 to 140. You covered all the important points from the service manual.

Good video, I thought pushing on the fork with the shock pump on is not recommended. I could be wrong.

Very well shown in a timely manner. Great video, thanks for the confidence to change this out.

Yea makes sense. I reused them since the manual doesn’t call for them to be replaced. If I notice leaking, I’ll throw new ones in
Excellent vid. Especially for someone alrwayd famliar with doubg a lower leg service
Quick tip, you can grind off inner bevel socket so you can make it flush so it will fit much like proper adapter for specific job.
way cheaper but I've seen so many people end up with a cockeyed socket
Good information quickly and most importantly clearly explained. Any chance you will be doing one for the Fox Float?
Thank you very much. You are clear, concise and professional 👍
Great video! I think I’m going to try to do mine with your video for help.
Giant COVID test 😜. Thanks for another great how-to video!
seemed appropriate

Is rockshock lyric 160mm damper compatible with Pike?
Does this apply to extending travel. Change air spring only?

Fantastic video!
How can i find out what is max posible, i mean, can a fork of 150mm become 170mm or can 170mm go 140mm for instance?
How do you store those old air springs? Can you still use it in the future? No seal expiration?
Not sure. I put it in a plastic bag. May help prevent everything drying out
It's possible to go lower? To the 100mm? With some custom tuning air spring?
On Rockshox ZEB Ultimate
You can go longer or shorter

Ok and the oils and tools 🤷♀️
Cool man.
If you want to get rid of the stock 150mm spring, let me know, I'd like to increase to 150 on my revelation
Does this mean you cant possibly adjust the travel from 150 to 140 without changing the air shaft/air spring?
what part that I need to change my lyrik ultimate travel from 180 to 160? thank you
Just the right debonair spring for your fork
Wait, can I move a 120mm pike to 140mm simply with a 140mm debonair kit?
👍
Awesome! Thank You
FYI this doesn't apply to MY23 Pike with the Debonair+ Spring...figured that out the hard way. Can't upgrade MY23+ Pike past 140mm :(
is it the same for the rockshox 35 gold?
Nope, it says it's a debonair but spring is different. That's why I sold mine
I’m going to follow the manual, oh lets use some fox oil 😂
Legend.
Not zeb it 38 mm but all rest are 35mm
Good video but don’t use IPA on rubber it’ll dry it out.

most of that stuff can be torqued to the value of "common sense"

If you come swap the spring on my revelation I'll pay for parts and make you a sandwich.
