    These are going to work better for some tricks than others, but I managed to land quite a lot of tricks in my living room playing with them, and the bonus is they're not as loud when you drop them. I recommend these tutorials to get you started:

    Wow that's just an awesome idea !!!
    Thanks a lot for this amazing and fun tutorial !! You two are really adorable !
    The best thing about it is not that they are really cheap cigar boxes but that they are not made of hard wood, so they are much softer for the floor, so this will be very nice for indoor practicing. I have been using the giant foam puzzle pieces as a protective carpet but sometimes when they fall hard on the corner, they still can get through it and leave a mark on wooden floor. I believe these Tiscuit Cigar boxes would be a really nice alternative to help beginners on a budget and also to protect the floor !

      Thanks a lot for the comment! Puzzle mats are a great idea, both for the floor and taking care of boxes, but I agree that these boxes (while not as nice to juggle as the real deal obviously), at least make less noise so can be a good option for some situations.

    So cool! I originally used cork yoga blocks and they were pretty good. But these look like an even better option.

      Oh nice! Yea the foam ones always looked good, I've never tried them. Are they thick compared to these dimensions?

    Thanks for this tutorial it was funny and useful. Regarding the substitution of the ultra-sued/felt on the original cigar boxes, do you glue it straightforward on the cigar? what is the index that makes you feel it's time to change the felt? how thick should be the new felt? when do you feel you need to change the tape on the cigar boxes? is it still fine to train with cigar boxes with consumed edges? which kind of tape is good for repairing the cigar boxes? sorry it's a lot of questions! if you feel you can do another tutorial out of it! :D thanks Eric! Can't wait to see you performing live!

      Hi Maurizio. So I looked and you can actually order these ends from Dube on their cigar box page, and they come with an adhesive backing, like a sticker. For me if the corner of one of these things starts to get loose it can be a problem because then the boxes can stick together by accident onstage. So if that happens a lot I'll either use superglue to glue it down myself or put on new ends. I have never changed the tape on the boxes (it's never been a problem with my dubé boxes) so I can't say much about that. For me the big problem is if the end of the box (the wood or plastic under the suede) gets damaged and not flat it makes all the tricks a lot harder; so that's when I would replace a box. Hope that helps, are you talking about all of this for wooden or plastic boxes?

      @@EricBates thanks for your reply! it's much way clearer to me now. I have a set of 3 Henry's cigar boxes (wooden type). It's my first set. as a ball juggler I use beanbags so I try to take good care of props and I saw already some old sets of cigar boxes having problems with edges and tapes. so i want to avoid these kind of problems. also the the ends when they were new I notice they had a really good grip and some tricks were very comfortable to do :) great tips anyway thank you so much! Can't wait for the next tutorial! As request for tutorials I would have: some tricks where you have a column of boxes (balanced or held doesn't matter but I'd like to learn some column effects) or some EASY tricks with 4 boxes, but anything you post it's actually pretty good because you really focus on the technique and the creativity! :D

    Can you give the dimensions of the cigar and biscuit boxes? I do not have that type of biscuits in my country. Thinking of making from cardboard

      These are the specs from Dube.com's website (the wooden boxes I use):
      Dimensions: 18.4 x 13.3 x 6.35 cm (7.25 x 5.25 x 2.5 in)
      Weight: 220 gm (7.75 oz)

    great video--I had a set back in the late 70s and I remember the sides being something like skateboard tap...any downside to having a rougher material on the sides?

    • @EricBates
      @EricBates  3 роки тому

      Nice. No downsides that I can think of unless you get your finger caught between the boxes, which happens every so often.
