You relocated to India so that you can relocate back to the US easily.

Most Indians think that residing in some Western country is like living in 'Dev Lok'. It is not. If in India you have to traverse water logged streets in Western countries you run the risk of crime, gun violence, high taxes and some (however marginal) racism. Life is a 'trade off' so is this comparison between life in India versus life in a Western country.

Crime exists significantly in India too. Gun violence is more of a US thing, not in other areas. In fact, even in India we regularly associate areas overrun by gangs with having gun violence. Taxes are high for a person paying it honestly in India too. Racism is totally true, though depending on one's community (religion, caste, language), one may face similar discrimination in specific parts of india too.
The real benefits in India are the fact that it is a reasonably Well-functioning democracy (many attractive countries are overall far more authoritarian, and could turn against any person at any time), it is growing pretty fast, it has a wide and young talent pool, and a person with a good circle of family and friends (even if not perfect) can get much better social experiences. The downside is a significant lack of civic sense in many Indians coupled with a colonial mindset of government, politicians, and "bade log" providing everything. Many of our social ills either stem from this or are hard to correct because of this. Even problems in infrastructure are really eventually due to this. The situation is improving, certainly, but we have to be honest that in these areas, western countries are msotly better off. Perhaps we will reach and even surpass them one day, but currently, we are not yet there

@@hbrg9173 Your comments are mostly fair, especially, on the body politics of India. I would qualify your points by saying, on crime it is a matter of degree, so we need to ask, 'chances of suffering crime are 10% or 50%?' a) house burglary is less common in most areas of India as compared to Western countries, also, auto theft and number plate thefts b) In South Indian cities, guns are rare, working women return home after dark safely as they do in most areas of the advanced West. c) Taxes in India, if 'paid honestly' are still lower than in the West - the Maths has to be worked out in actual numbers to show how much lower. Some would argue, 'take bribes into account also') d) Yes, 'reservation based on caste and religion' in India is discrimination and a denial of merit. It causes many Indians to emigrate and to stay abroad.
On infrastructure, corruption in government departments and lack of civic sense, I am with you. I have known Indian tourists at Changi airport (Singapore) seeking dustbins to drop rubbish but the same people as soon as they arrive at an Indian airport will casually litter on the shiny floors of their own city's airport!
Despite everything Bharath is Motherland and that sentiment is hard to ignore. As you say we continue to hope that good sense (Subuddhi) will prevail in due course. In the West too, we hope the drug and sexual addictions will lessen in time. There is no such place or country that we can call 'perfect'.

It's not technically moving back to India if you did it specifically so that you could settle down in the US sooner. Come on, you don't think people are that stupid, do you? Just say what it is. There's nothing to be ashamed of.

No, I don’t think my community is stupid. If I did, I would explain everything like I would to a 5 year old.

She moved back because she didn't have any specific home anywhere else, like in the US. Sure, she got another visa pretty quickly but it was no guarantee.
