Guiding Light June 3 2002, Ed returns for Rick & Mel's wedding and meets baby Robbie

- Ed objects to Rick and Mel's wedding, explaining that he can't let Rick marry someone who he has never even met. The ceremony ends and Rick and Mel are pronounced man and wife. Michelle and Rick thank Danny profusely for bringing Ed home. Seeing Ed stirs up a lot of old feelings for both Lillian and Holly, who feel a bit awkward. Rick and Mel go the Rick's hospital room to enjoy some privacy on their wedding night. Meanwhile, Danny and Michelle bring Ed home and Michelle asks Ed about where he has been. He avoids her questions and goes to take a nap, but first Michelle wants him to meet his grandson. Ed holds Robbie in his arms as Danny and Michelle look on. Later, Phillip and Beth share a moment alone and express how happy they are about their relationship.

I wished the writers would have let their relationship continue
I know but even to this day, Interracial Relationships between African Americans & Whites are a No No. Remember the "Chemistry" that Alan Michael Spaulding #2 (Rick Hearst) and Gilly Grant (Amelia Marshall). In the UK, Two British Soap Actresses are with Black Men and nobody seems to care. Also, Three of The Five Members of the UK Girl Group Girls Aloud either were Married/Divorced/or in a Committed Relationship with A Black Man.
It must have been surreal for Peter Simon as Ed to work with Michelle (Nancy St. Alban). The "Last" Michelle was Rebecca Budig who was playing Greenlee Smythe on All My Children. Then Robert Gentry came back but it wasn't the same because none of the Actors he once worked with were on the Show. He only played him from 1966-1969 but it wasn't the same.

After all these years, this reunion scene always brings tears to my eyes. I still miss Guiding Light.
what a moment for Ed himself that has to reabituing himself to the normal life , Michelle that is in shock for her father's return and Lillian that is in trouble with old fiery feelings resurfaced
Poor Ed, it's like coming back from being at War or in Prison for a Crime he didn't committ. So much History in that House. He raised Michelle, was married to Maureen, Holly lived in the Apartment upstairs above The Garage, fought with Roger, had Holidays with Alan Michael and Eleni and now so many of them are now gone. I wonder if Alan Michael was around could Ed have talked to him about his Father, I wish he was able to help Hope since he too is a Recovering Alcoholic.
Poor Ed...Right....i never got over how he treated....cheated....on Maureen. Never say adultery is a victimless crime...so many people got hurt....cost Maureen's life....a high price was paid by the Baurs...the Reardons....Vanessa. ...many friends. ....Springfield 😢😢😢😟
This storylline was started by Claire Labine, who knew how to write real soap opera and she "got" what GL was about. Unfortunately we never knew what happened as backstage politics forced Labine out before she could flesh it out.
So all of a sudden, awful John Conboy brought even more awful Ellen Weston to write that disturbing Maryanne Caruthers story, which went against every bit of history the show had. Then you have Ed slapping Michelle, and Peter Simon quitting in protest. This was the exact moment I knew Guiding Light was not long for this world.
I think Claire Labine could have really brought this show up to the standard it deserves and maybe it could have retained enough viewers to keep it on the air. She wrote Richard's euthanasia story and it was gut wrenchingly good, the dialogue and the acting were firing on all cylinders, and it rippled into other stories (Ed and Cassie's friendship).
Sorry I get lost thinking what it all could have been.
@@artjr1971 For me, I would have loved to have more action with The Boudreaus. Have Clayton discover that a Student in His Class is functionally Illiterate who is at the School on Scholarship. Then see how challenging for Mel a Woman Of Color be a Lawyer who works out of Ross Marler's Old Law Office when Hart Jessup found out about his Father and the Farm. Let Felicia work as a Counselor at Springfield Women's Prison where Maria Santos rules The Roost who "dies" and leaves Felicia Money, in an Offshore Account. The Family go there to Relax (San Cristobel anyone?) then have at The Bank be given a Journal in which a shocking Secret comes out. Mick Santos wasn't killed by Michelle Bauer Santos, but by Blake's Late Uncle Ken Norris.
He then talks about Aunt Meta living in Nova Scotia and Bill Bauer lived in Canada as well (either Toronto, Ontario or Vancouver, British Columbia) as Bill Moray. Also Canada is where Hart Jessup lived for many years as well as Fletcher Reade with Meg who attended a school for special needs children since she has down's syndrome. On Emmerdale there's a young man named Leo who has Down's Syndrome. UK Soaps don't think twice about hiring actors and actresses who are wheelchair bound didn't grow properly, have no legs, and one even won The UK Equivalent of an Emmy for his work on Emmerdale who has Celerebal Palsy.
Lillian must have still felt like shit after what happened years before. We use to call Rick the town Cryer because just about ever episode he cried.
i can't immagine the amount of old feelings resurfaced after the y see Ed
