Excellent instruction. Thank you for taking the time! I'm working on a 1985 Honda 450SC and you have shown me the way. I'll send you pictures of my beginning/ending results. Thanks again!
Who would have thought of just using a saw? Not me. Who would have thought of using a grinder flap disc? Not me. Brilliant. I want to redo chewed-up mower seats (with tartan pvc on everything: 2 mowers, a tractor, digger, dumper). You've given plenty of information and tips to get me going. Thanks a bundle.
You did a excellent job on that seat! I give credit where credit is due. I am a senior and have my own Shop wood and welding. It's nice to see the younger gen. Doing and trying things out. How else will you learn. Good luck in all your projects.
Thank you very much Joe. It is always a little intimidating at first digging into something you have no experience with, but then I tell myself, "it cant look any worse than it already does" LOL
Fantastic job, just did mine with expanding foam, bread knife, p40 sand paper and a standard hand gun stapler using 12mm 140 staples. Thumbs up and it really does make a bike look a million bucks.
@@BrandonLund i. Bought one trx 1985 tite as a newone for a hundred bucks i couldnt beleive it smokes like hell .i think its a stuck ring. But i didmy seat like u showed turned out perfect
Thats awesome! Mine is starting to smoke a littke also. Im going to freshen it up this winter. I found a new old stock std. piston and rings and ill lap the valves and it should be good for another 40 years lol
@free1 been there done that! On the right side just behind the round airbox the might be a silver sticker that says Honda and the year. The VIV is right in that area stamped into the metal and it runs vertically. I had a hard time finding it too! UPDATE: If you go to this video at 16:00 you can see the sticker was telling you about. Below that vertically you can see where I wiped the frame. The vin is there. ua-cam.com/video/eNhWM_aMm9k/v-deo.html
I recently did the seat on my 1997 Arctic Cat using this video as a guide. I used an angle grinder with a diamond metal cutting wheel which worked well. The blade is very thin so I used it to make the initial cuts where you used the hand saw as well as carving out the center by holding it in a vertical position and moving it back and forth. I had to be careful and go slow but it did a really good job. Thanks again.
Just saved one of these little quads from next to a dumpster. A little gas and three pulls got it running. Want to go through it and make sure itll be good for my 3 yr old so very interested to see how yours comes out!
Congratulations! These little 4 wheelers are getting hard to find and a lot of times the prices are very high. It sounds like someone didn't know what they had. Thats awesome you found it by the dumpster. I have a new project to unveil this week and then we will get right back onto the build. Thanks for your support.
i had an idea recently to strengthen old original plastics by spraying them with a 2part polymer truck bed liner like Line-x.. it is incredibly tough stuff.. it is something i am going to look into for my trx70 and even other atc's i have
That seat looks mint. I did the same to a Honda trx quad, the seat cover had split but the foam was okay though. Before fitting the new factory honda seat cover, I covered the seat foam in a pelt of sheepskin, basically like what you did with the layer of white foam ( i had to shear it around the edges so I could get a few staples in to the seat base lol). Then i fitted the factory seat cover over it. The seat looked kind of puffed up but it worked well
Got a seat cover for a 1983 honda xr 200 must be the same guy on Ebay same instructions. and the quality is awesome looks exactly like the OME . thanks for your info.
Yah this guy definitely makes a quality product and doesn't cut corners and it wasn't much more that some of the other cheaper ones. I'm glad I spent a little extra to get the quality because it looks like OEM.
Hey Joe. The guy I bought it from was selling them on ebay but he has since taken his store down. He was an older guy so its hard telling if he's still alive or not
This is really interesting because I have an elderly Honda quad bike that needs some work. Please can you make videos for the rest of the restoration? Thanks ! Pete
I can hardly wait to see the finished product. Will there be a part 4? I have a 1986 also we took it out of storage after 15 years have pretty much what you have done gone through gas tank Rebuilt the carburetor and it was amazing after all these years it started up on the first pull. We bought new tires and luckily the plastics are great on mine my only regret is I recovered the seat on my own and I did it in black so after watching your video I think I’m going to pull it off and do it in the blue. Today I will be working on the new graphics it almost looks brand new. excited to see what yours looks like. Thank you for the video
Thanks for the support Sherry! There will be more episodes, I got sidetracked on some other projects but I expect to be back at it again real soon. I wish my plastics were in better shape. I'm still working on sourcing parts
You should of steamed the the old foam. Steaming the foam poofs it up and makes it like new. Then add the new cutouts. Also a lite misting of bleach in the end and let it sit in the sun for a bit before adding the cover in the dryer so its hot and stretchy
I suggest using a variable speed drill with a sand disc on it. An angle grinder is far too much machine...in weight, speed, maneuverability, aggressiveness, you name it. Nice job tho

Thanks man glad I could help! I appreciate you checking it out! For the staples I used just generic staples from the hardware store. I dont think the original staples were anything fancy because they were all rusted so these should work just fine
I found this at a local discount store. I'm not sure of the name. I would check ebay. I'm pretty sure the guy that makes these seat covers also sells the seat foam.
Great video, gives me confidence to repair my ATC70 3 wheeler seat here in Scotland, you mentioned you would mention where cover was purchased, can you let me know.

The link for the seat says it can’t be found on ebay. Any chance you leave more info on who the seller is or maybe what the price was? There are many on eBay but want to buy a quality one. Thanks bro. Loves this entire project. Just finished mine.
You can sculpt with a carving knife. It cuts like butter and super clean cuts. And you plunge cut so you wouldn't have to cut all the way across the seat like with the cross cut saw.
Honestly, the staples that were in it from the factory were rusted so I knew they were steel. Based on that I just used regular staples found at the hardware store. I think they are T-50. They do make stainless staples if you have deep pockets but I didn't see the need.
Hey Timothy, I used 3/8" with an electric stapler and no issues at all. Others have said use Monel staples. I probably would have if I was aware of them at the time but they are a bit pricy.
It's is but I dont know what it's actually called. An upholstery shop would be your best bet but this is easily something you can do with great results.

I was one of them that got bit. Totally shattered my right wrist. The 4 wheelers are much more stable than the 3 wheelers. It would be pretty difficult to flip this one just because the center of gravity is so low.
Great job brother! I had one “recovered” at a local upholstery shop. They charged me $130 bucks and it was a $**t job. Don’t I feel like an idiot now. Hey, don’t take offense at this but I gotta ask. I’m pretty good at placing yankee accents. Yours is giving me trouble. Let me guess, Minnesota?

Way to go , Nice JOB !! Is there something you can coat the staples so they don't rust ?
Good call. I never gave it a thought. They might make a galvanized or stainless staple. I could go right over what is there. I like your thinking!
@Smooth Move BRILLIANT! that's an awesome solution. Thank you!
I was gonna say a coat of lacquer, but nail polish is pretty much it.
archenemy24 Years back we use to fix blown speakers with nail polish and a dollar bill cut to fit the rip areas
😮😮😮

An electric carving knife makes a huge difference.
You can sculpt with a carving knife. It cuts like butter and super clean cuts. And you plunge cut so you wouldn't have to cut all the way across the seat like with the cross cut saw.

60 but i'm going at it with a light touch because it wants to bite into the material. 120 would probably be easier to control though
What was the grit of the grinding wheel?
120
