  • The sun was shining and the temps soared into the 30s, and we were psyched to try out our new Helium Trail Snowshoes on the snowshoe trails on Lolo Pass. From the very first step, these snowshoes exceeded our expectations.
Lightweight and inexpensive, the Atlas Helium Trail is a snowshoe designed for use on rolling hills and easy terrain. Featuring great traction and an easy-to-adjust Wrapp™ Trail binding system that is comfortable with our winter hiking boots. The 19º heel lifts (televators) make climbing hills easier with the Helium Trail Snowshoes.
    Bindings
The bindings are quite easy to use - even for noobs. The binding distributes pressure across the foot really well, so these are comfortable with both stiffer and softer hiking boots. The bindings are solid and secure. There were none of the coming off unexpectedly and they instantly felt like an extension of our boots.
    Floatation
Why else would you need a snowshoe? We glided on top of the hip-deep powder and never experience wallowing around in the snow! The surface area of these snowshoes was more than adequate to keep Radd’s 230 pounds up on top.
    Stride
The Helium Trail features a hinged deck attachment that performed great on the gnarly and steep sections of the trail.
The last 8 inches of the tail on the snowshoes are slightly flexible. And we could feel the advantage on hardpacked snow and groomed sections of the trail.
The Helium Trail lives up to its name; it is ridiculously lightweight. No heavy paddles strapped to our feet anymore.
    Possible Downside
Some users have experienced durability issues with the toe webbing strap scraping against the rail teeth and reducing durability.
    Overall Impression
The Atlas Helium Trail Snowshoes are high-performing at a high-value price point. They ticked all the boxes we were hoping for in a recreational snowshoe including a quality build, easy-to-use design, and great feeling on the trail.
